Grogs are a family of Rare alcoholic drinks in Windrose that occupy the drink buff slot. Three named grogs are currently confirmed in the item database, each tuned to a different combat role: damage, damage resistance, and reload speed. All three stack on top of food buffs and Elixirs, which makes them a standard part of a fully stacked pre-fight loadout. All three are crafted at the Alchemy Table (usually with the Stove and Pot upgrade) and share Rum Bottle as a primary ingredient.
Grog Variants
Effect | Effect Category | Best For | |
|---|---|---|---|
+15% Damage / 30 min | Damage (+15% for 30 minutes per community testing) | Boss fights, boarding melees, opening broadsides | |
+15% Damage Resistance / 30 min | Damage Resistance | Outnumbered naval engagements and tank-style boarding | |
+15% Reload Speed / 30 min | Reload Speed | Cannon duels where sustained broadside uptime decides the fight |
Each grog provides a flat 15% combat bonus for 30 minutes of real time: Dead Eye Grog for Damage, Hard Grog for Damage Resistance, and Gunroom Grog for firearm reload speed. The single-drink Grog page lists the per-variant effect lines; this page is the decision and stacking hub for choosing between them.
Recipes
Station | Ingredients | Time | |
|---|---|---|---|
4 Rum Bottle + 2 Madeira + 1 Coffee Beans | 10 seconds | ||
4 Rum Bottle + 2 Brandy + 3 Lime | 10 seconds | ||
4 Rum Bottle + 2 Whiskey + 3 Cayenne Pepper | 10 seconds |
Ingredient Sources
Every grog uses 4 Rum Bottle as its base, then one spirit and one flavoring. The spirit is usually the bottleneck:
Spirit | Flavoring | Bottleneck | |
|---|---|---|---|
Madeira x2 | Coffee Beans x1 | ||
Brandy x2 | Lime x3 | Brandy (Epic rarity) | |
Whiskey x2 |
Of the three, Hard Grog is the most expensive to keep stocked because Brandy is an Epic-rarity spirit, while Lime and Coffee Beans are cheap farm produce.
How to Choose a Grog
Pick the grog by the shape of the fight. Dead Eye Grog is the universal boss pick because flat damage compresses every fight; Hard Grog is for attrition fights where the player is outnumbered or fighting up a tier; Gunroom Grog is specifically for cannon duels where a reload-speed advantage turns into a raw dps advantage at the rail. Grogs are consumed by the drink mechanic, so only one grog can be active at a time.
Boss fight on land or boarding melee: Dead Eye Grog
1v2 or 1v3 naval engagement: Hard Grog
Cannon duel (especially against slower ships): Gunroom Grog
Stacking
A fully stacked pre-boss loadout is: one Strength food (+20 STR for 30 minutes), one Vitality food (+20 VIT for 30 minutes), a grog, and an elixir. All four timers can be aligned to peak at the encounter opener by cooking and brewing in the last few minutes before the pull. Equipping Naval Tactics III: Stretch the Supply on your ship triples grog duration to 90 minutes, so one brew session can cover the whole loadout. The Hard Grog damage-resistance line also stacks with armor set bonuses such as Conquistador Set and Tracker Set.
