Overview
The Mysterious Mural is a hidden puzzle in Pokemon Pokopia located in the Withered Wasteland. It consists of a large stone wall with 27 empty slots, each corresponding to a letter of the Unown alphabet (A through Z plus the question mark form). Players must collect 27 Mysterious Slates scattered throughout the game world and attach them to the matching Unown letter slots on the mural. Completing all 27 slots summons the Mythical Pokemon Mew.
Where to Find the Mysterious Mural
The mural is located northeast of the Pokemon Center in Withered Wasteland. To reach it:
Travel to the Withered Wasteland Pokemon Center.
Head northeast from the Pokemon Center.
Break the wall blocking the path to reveal a hidden area.
Inside the hidden area, break the wall to the left at the chiseled blocks.
This uncovers stairs leading down to the underground chamber containing the Mysterious Mural.
How to Complete the Mural
Step 1: Collect Mysterious Slates
Mysterious Slates are obtained by breaking blocks with glowing spots. These glowing blocks are found throughout all areas of the game and have a chance of dropping a Mysterious Slate when broken. Not every glowing block drops a slate; some will drop regular materials instead.
Each Mysterious Slate has an Unown letter engraved on its back, indicating which slot it belongs to on the mural.
Step 2: Use the Dowsing Machine
Finding all 27 slates requires locating glowing spots across every area. The Dowsing Machine is the best tool for this. Pair it with a Pokemon that has the Search specialty to reveal hidden glowing spots on your map. Without the Dowsing Machine, glowing spots are easy to miss as they blend into the environment.
Step 3: Attach Slates to the Mural
Return to the Mysterious Mural with your collected slates. Interact with the mural to see which Unown letter slots are still empty. Select a Mysterious Slate from your inventory and match it to the corresponding Unown letter on the wall. The slate locks into place permanently.
Reward: Mew
After all 27 Mysterious Slates have been placed and the mural is complete, the Mythical Pokemon Mew appears in the underground chamber. You can befriend Mew and add it to your Pokedex. Mew spawns without a habitat initially, so you will need to build one or assign it to an existing habitat after befriending it.
All 27 Unown Letters
The mural requires one slate for each of the 27 Unown forms:
Slate | Unown Form |
|---|---|
Slates 1-26 | Unown A through Z (one for each letter of the alphabet) |
Slate 27 | Unown ? (question mark form) |
Finding Glowing Spots
Glowing spots appear on breakable blocks throughout all five game areas:
Area | Notes |
|---|---|
First area; many glowing spots near ruins and dried riverbeds | |
Check cliff faces and rocky outcrops along the coast | |
Cave interiors and mountain walls are prime locations | |
Floating islands and elevated platforms | |
Random glowing spots on each generated island |
Tips
Use the Dowsing Machine with a Search-specialty Pokemon whenever you enter a new area. This reveals glowing spots you would otherwise miss.
Break every glowing block you find, even if you are not actively hunting for slates. Slates stack in your inventory and you can attach them to the mural in any order.
Not every glowing block drops a Mysterious Slate. Some drop regular materials like ores or stones. Keep breaking glowing blocks until you have all 27.
Check the back of each Mysterious Slate in your inventory to see which Unown letter it corresponds to. This helps you track which ones you still need.
After befriending Mew, build it a suitable habitat. Mew initially has no home, so plan ahead by checking the Habitat Dex for compatible setups.
The mural is a long-term collectible. Do not stress about finding all 27 slates immediately. They accumulate naturally as you explore every area over time.
