Full rewrite with per-city climate details, temperature effects, gameplay impact, and Edit City weather controls
Weather in inZOI is a dynamic system that changes over time and varies by location. It mirrors real-world weather patterns and directly affects gameplay. Zois react to weather conditions: they get cold in winter without proper clothing, seek shade in heat, and run for cover in heavy rain. Weather is tied to the time and seasons system, with each season bringing its own typical conditions.
Each of the three playable locations has a distinct climate profile. Dowon experiences dramatic seasonal shifts. Bliss Bay stays mild year-round. Kucingku is tropical and warm at all times. These differences affect which clothing Zois need, what outdoor activities are available, and how daily routines change across the year.
Dowon has four distinct seasons that closely mirror the climate of Seoul, South Korea:
Spring - Mild temperatures. Cherry blossoms appear on trees throughout the city. Rain showers are occasional. Comfortable outdoor weather for activities in Harang River Park and Central Park.
Summer - Hot and humid. The warmest season. Zois may overheat if wearing heavy clothing. Thunderstorms can occur. Outdoor fitness activities become more tiring due to heat.
Autumn - Cooling temperatures. Trees change to orange and red foliage. The city takes on a warm visual tone. A transitional season where lighter jackets become appropriate.
Winter - Harsh cold with heavy snowfall. The most dangerous season for Zois who are not dressed appropriately. Streets and parks are covered in snow. The subway system becomes even more important for transportation as outdoor travel is uncomfortable.
Bliss Bay has mild, warm weather throughout the entire year. The city is inspired by Southern California, and its climate reflects that. Seasons technically change, but the temperature differences are small. Rain happens occasionally but is not heavy. Snow is extremely rare. Zois living here can wear light clothing year-round and spend time at the beach in any season.
The near-constant good weather makes Bliss Bay ideal for outdoor activities like surfing, swimming, and beach fitness. There is no realistic risk of cold-related illness or death under normal conditions.
Kucingku (the Cahaya islands) has a tropical climate. It is warm at all times with periodic tropical rain. Like Bliss Bay, there is no winter cold to worry about. The tropical rain is atmospheric but does not cause health problems. Zois can wear summer clothing year-round. The warm water around the islands makes swimming and snorkeling comfortable at any time.
Weather is not just cosmetic. Temperature directly affects Zoi health and behavior:
Wrong clothing - Wearing summer clothes in Dowon's winter or heavy coats in summer causes discomfort. If a Zoi stays in inappropriate clothing for too long, they become sick. Illness drains needs faster and requires rest to recover.
Prolonged exposure - Extended time in extreme cold without proper clothing can be fatal. This is one of the environmental causes of death in the game. Zois will show warning signs (shivering, discomfort moodlets) before reaching a critical state.
Mood and emotions - Weather affects emotions. Sunny days tend to boost positive mood. Rainy days can lower energy or trigger melancholy in Zois with certain traits. Snowy days have mixed effects depending on the Zoi's preferences.
Activity availability - Some outdoor activities are restricted or less effective in bad weather. Gardening is affected by seasons. Social events held outdoors may be disrupted by rain.
The Smart Zoi system factors weather into autonomous behavior. Zois controlled by AI will change clothes before going outside in cold weather, carry umbrellas when rain is expected, and prefer indoor activities during storms.
Players can temporarily override weather conditions using the Edit City mode. The Weather tab in Edit City provides three adjustable settings:
Cloudy - Adds cloud cover to the sky. Adjustable intensity from light overcast to heavy gray skies.
Rainy - Adds rainfall. Intensity slider controls everything from a light drizzle to a downpour.
Snowy - Adds snowfall. Intensity slider controls flurry density and snow accumulation on surfaces.
Each setting has an adjustable intensity slider. These overrides are temporary and primarily used for Photo Mode shots, creative builds, or just for fun. Forcing snow in Bliss Bay during summer or making it rain in Kucingku's resort area creates unusual visuals that many players use for screenshots shared on Canvas.
Weather overrides in Edit City do not permanently change the climate of a location. Once the player exits Edit City mode or advances time, normal weather patterns resume based on the current season and location.
Weather interacts with several other game systems:
Fire - Rain can help extinguish outdoor fires. Dry, hot weather does not directly cause fires but makes outdoor areas more susceptible to them spreading.
Cleanliness - Heavy rain can affect the visual cleanliness of outdoor areas.
Cars - Driving in rain or snow does not change vehicle handling in a simulation sense, but Zois react to the conditions visually and through dialogue.
Gardening - Plant growth rates are affected by season and weather. Some crops grow better in certain seasons.
Sleep - Rain sounds can affect Zoi sleep quality depending on traits and hobbies.
