Pet Care Guide
March 27, 2026 at 04:17 AM
Major expansion: added cat interaction details (requirements, all options), Cahaya island cat experience, Miatara Temple guide, temple souvenir shop, city animal management, panda interactions, Coexistence value guide, urge mechanics, and updated developer timeline
As of March 2026, inZOI does not have a full pet ownership or pet care system. Zois cannot adopt, purchase, or keep animals as permanent household companions. However, the game does offer a range of animal interactions that let Zois bond with stray cats in cities, feed pandas in parks, and engage with the temple cats on Cahaya island. These interactions fulfill urges, boost emotions, and earn Meow Coins. The game also includes pet-related furniture in Build Mode, though these items are currently decorative only.
This guide covers everything you can do with animals in the current version of the game, including the requirements for interacting with cats, the items and locations involved, and what the developers have shared about future pet system plans.
Various animals spawn in outdoor areas across the playable cities. They roam freely as environmental elements, following basic AI pathing through streets, parks, and alleys. Most animals are purely cosmetic and cannot be interacted with directly. Wildlife will flee if a Zoi runs straight at them, so approaching slowly is recommended.
Animal | Where Found | Interactable |
|---|---|---|
Cats (stray) | All cities, streets, alleys, and parks | Yes |
Pandas | Specific park areas | Yes (Feed Bamboo only) |
Dogs (stray) | All cities, parks and streets | No |
Deer | Wooded and park areas | No |
Raccoons | Urban areas, near trash | No |
Squirrels | Parks and trees | No |
Foxes | Wooded areas | No |
Crocodiles | Cahaya waterways | No |
Wildlife spawns and despawns based on time of day and location. The types and density of animals in your city can be customized through the Edit City menu (see the City Animal Management section below).
Stray cats are the primary animals that Zois can meaningfully interact with. Cats can be found roaming streets, alleys, and park areas in all three base-game cities, as well as across Cahaya island. When a Zoi approaches a stray cat and clicks on it, several interaction options may appear depending on the Zoi's values and current emotional state.
To interact with cats, your Zoi must have at least 60 points in the Coexistence value. The Coexistence value increases naturally when a Zoi regularly interacts with plants and animals. Zois who value Coexistence tend to have a positive outlook on life and care about nature, peace, and the environment. Without reaching the 60-point threshold, no cat interaction options will appear when clicking on a stray cat.
The "Give Snack" option has no additional requirements beyond the base Coexistence threshold. The "Greet with a Treat" option specifically requires 60 or more Coexistence points. If your Zoi's Coexistence is below 60, focus on interacting with plants (watering, gardening) and spending time in nature areas to raise it.
Action | Requirement | Details |
|---|---|---|
Give Snack | Coexistence 60+ | Feed the cat a snack. The cat eats and stays nearby briefly. Provides a small positive emotion boost and earns Meow Coins. |
Greet with a Treat | Coexistence 60+ | Offer a treat while greeting the cat. Fulfills the "Wants to Bond with Animals" urge if active. Earns Meow Coins. |
Receive Comfort Through Empathy | Zoi must be depressed | A special interaction that becomes available only when the Zoi is in a depressed emotional state. The cat provides emotional comfort, helping the Zoi recover from negative emotions. |
Watch | None | Observe the cat from a distance. Passive interaction that does not require inventory items. |
These interactions are brief and do not create a lasting bond or relationship. The cat will not follow the Zoi home or become a household member. After the interaction ends, the cat resumes its normal roaming behavior.
Zois with the Preference of Animals trait may periodically develop the "Wants to Bond with Animals" urge. This urge appears as a prompt in the Zoi's needs panel and encourages the player to seek out an animal interaction. To fulfill it, find a cat in a park or on the street and select either "Give Snack" or "Greet with a Treat." Successfully completing the interaction clears the urge, awards Meow Coins, and provides a mood boost to the Zoi's current emotional state. Fulfilling urges is one of the most reliable ways to earn Meow Coins, which can be spent at the Meow Store on special items like skill growth boosters and cold immunity potions.
Pandas are the only other animal besides cats that Zois can interact with. They can be found in specific park areas, and the sole interaction option is Feed Bamboo. When a Zoi clicks on a panda, the "Feed Bamboo" option appears. The Zoi feeds the panda a piece of bamboo, the panda eats it, and the interaction ends. Unlike cat interactions, feeding pandas does not provide as many interaction options and serves primarily as a brief, one-off experience.
Cahaya is the tropical island city added in the August 2025 Island Getaway update. The island is home to a large population of roaming cats, making it the best destination in the game for cat interactions. The name "Kucingku" (meaning "My Cat" in Indonesian and Malay) was the original working title for this island, highlighting its feline focus. Cats can be found throughout the main island, the resort island, and especially concentrated around the Miatara Temple.
Miatara Temple is located in the southern part of the resort island on Cahaya. The temple is dedicated to its guardian cats, and many felines roam the temple grounds. This is the most reliable location in the entire game for cat interactions, as there are always multiple cats available here. The following activities are unique to or enhanced at the temple:
Meditate with Cat: Sit down and meditate alongside one of the temple cats. This calming activity provides a mood boost depending on the Zoi's personality and needs.
Give Treats and Play: Interact with cats by giving them treats or playing with them, similar to the base-game cat interactions but with more cats available in close proximity.
Receive Gifts: Cats at the temple may give gifts to Zois who interact with them.
Burn Incense and Pray: Interact with the Incense Burner in front of the Guardian Statue to pay respects to the guardian cats.
The Temple Souvenir Shop is located at the top-left area of the Miatara Temple complex. It sells cat-themed items that can be used for offerings or interactions:
Item | Use |
|---|---|
Cat Treat | Can be offered at the Guardian Statue podium or given directly to cats |
Catnip Candy | Can be offered at the Guardian Statue podium or given to cats |
To make an offering, purchase a Cat Treat or Catnip Candy from the shop, return to the Guardian Statue, and interact with the podium beneath the Incense Burner. Select "Offer Cat Treat" or "Offer Catnip Candy" to complete the offering. Successfully making an offering rewards the Zoi with Karma, a resource tied to the Cahaya temple system.
Players can control which animals appear in their city and how many spawn at any given time. This is managed through the Edit City interface, which allows customization of the urban environment including trees, decorations, weather, and animals.
Press M on the keyboard or click the Edit City button in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Navigate to the City Appearance tab.
Select the Animals section on the right side of the panel.
Choose up to three different animal types from the available options: cats, dogs, pandas, deer, raccoons, squirrels, foxes, and crocodiles.
Adjust the density slider for each selected animal type. Higher density means more of that animal will appear across the city.
Animals placed through the Edit City menu will gradually start appearing in public areas like parks, streets, and sidewalks. You can change your animal selections at any time by returning to the same menu. Note that animals added through City Edit are environmental decorations. Only cats added naturally to the city (not through Edit City) are interactable for bonding purposes. If you cannot find cats to interact with, try visiting park areas where they tend to spawn.
Several pet-themed items are available in Build Mode under the furniture categories. These items can be placed in homes as decorative elements, but they are entirely non-functional in the current version of the game. No animal will use them because there is no household pet system. They serve purely as cosmetic objects for home design and interior decoration.
Item | Category | Status |
|---|---|---|
Cat Scratching Post | Other Furniture | Decorative only |
Cat Tree | Other Furniture | Decorative only |
Pet Food Bowl | Other Furniture | Decorative only |
Dog Bed | Other Furniture | Decorative only |
Pet Sleeping Mat | Other Furniture | Decorative only |
The presence of these items in Build Mode suggests that the infrastructure for a pet system is already partially built into the game's code. When the pet system eventually launches, these items will likely become functional. In the meantime, they can be placed as decorative elements to prepare homes for future pets.
Pet ownership is one of the most frequently requested features across the official forums, Steam discussions, and community polls. The developers at KRAFTON's inZOI Studio have acknowledged this demand and shared several details about their plans:
February 2025 AMA: During an AMA on the official Discord server (February 28, 2025), the developers confirmed that pets are "in the pipeline" and marked as a high priority for future updates. They noted that pets "require extensive development for proper interactions," which is why they were not included in the Early Access launch.
Developer Intent: KRAFTON has stated that when they implement the pet system, they want to provide "the full experience of having a pet" rather than a limited or superficial companion mechanic. This suggests that adoption, feeding, grooming, training, and other care activities will all be part of the system.
Kucingku/Cahaya DLC: The August 2025 Island Getaway update introduced Cahaya island (originally codenamed "Kucingku Cat Island"), which brought enhanced cat interactions and the Miatara Temple cat experience. While Cahaya expanded what players can do with cats, it did not introduce a pet adoption system.
Social Media Teases: KRAFTON's social media team has posted animations showing a cat tree with paw prints and "coming soon" text, fueling speculation about a dedicated pet update.
2026 Roadmap: As of the roadmap published in December 2025, pet adoption and care are not scheduled for any specific update through December 2026. The roadmap focuses on new cities (Goldenfield, Winiber, Haegang, Recalleta, Brusimo), Canvastown, modding tools, and online multiplayer.
Free During Early Access: All content added during the Early Access period is free. When pets are eventually added, they will be included at no additional cost.
For a full breakdown of all animal species, their locations, and spawn behaviors, see the Animals article. For details on the broader pet system plans and confirmed future features, see the Pet System article. The Miatara Temple article covers the full range of temple activities beyond cats, including fortune drawing, wish making, and yoga. The Psycat article covers inZOI's virtual cat mascot and Meow Store integration.
Visit Miatara Temple on Cahaya for the best cat interaction opportunities. The temple grounds always have multiple cats available.
Build your Zoi's Coexistence value to at least 60 before attempting cat interactions. Gardening, watering plants, and spending time outdoors all contribute to raising this value.
Keep an eye on your Zoi's urges panel. When the "Wants to Bond with Animals" urge appears, seek out a cat quickly to earn bonus Meow Coins.
Approach animals slowly. Running directly at wildlife will cause them to flee.
Use the Edit City menu to add cats to your city if none are spawning naturally. Select cats as one of your three animal types and set the density to high.
Pet furniture can be placed in homes as decorative items for interior design, even though animals will not interact with them yet.
On Cahaya, purchase Cat Treats or Catnip Candy from the Temple Souvenir Shop to make offerings at the Guardian Statue and earn Karma.
If your Zoi is depressed, seek out a cat for the "Receive Comfort Through Empathy" interaction. It provides a unique emotional recovery benefit.
Pandas can only be fed bamboo. This interaction is simple and does not have the same variety as cat interactions.
Check the Meow Store regularly. Meow Coins earned from animal interactions can be spent on useful items like skill growth rate boosters and cold immunity potions.
