Overview
The Nas River is a waterway that runs through the Hernand region in Crimson Desert. Its fishing dock is one of the earliest points of interest players encounter, located near Hernand Town. The dock is where players first learn the fishing skill through the game's observation-based learning system.
Learning to fish
Fishing in Crimson Desert is not unlocked through a menu or tutorial prompt. Instead, players must visit the Nas River Fishing Dock and observe a fisherman NPC who is actively casting and reeling in his line. By watching the fisherman for a short period, Kliff learns the fishing technique and unlocks the ability to use a Fishing Rod anywhere there is suitable water.
This mechanic is part of the broader skill learning system in Crimson Desert, where certain abilities can only be acquired by observing and interacting with specific NPCs scattered across Pywel. The same system applies to combat techniques: watching an NPC perform a palm strike or body slam can teach Kliff those moves for use in his own fights.
Fishing at the Nas River
Once the fishing skill is unlocked, players can use their Fishing Rod at the Nas River dock or any other body of water they encounter throughout the game. The Nas River itself provides an accessible early-game fishing spot with a variety of freshwater fish.
Equipment: A basic Fishing Rod is available early in the game. More advanced rods may become available later through vendors or crafting
Fish variety: The Nas River yields freshwater species suited to early-game cooking recipes
Accessibility: The dock is located close to Hernand Town, making it convenient to fish between other activities in the area
Using caught fish
Fresh fish caught at the Nas River serve as ingredients for cooking. Players can bring their catch back to the Greymane Camp and prepare meals that restore health and provide temporary buffs for Kliff and his companions. Cooking is an important part of sustaining your party during exploration and combat encounters.
Camp cooking: Fish can be combined with other gathered ingredients at the camp's cooking station to prepare various dishes
Health restoration: Cooked fish dishes replenish health, making fishing a reliable way to keep your party in fighting shape
Buff effects: Certain recipes may provide temporary stat boosts depending on the ingredients used
Tips
Visit the Nas River dock early in the game to unlock fishing. The skill remains useful throughout the entire adventure
Stand near the fisherman NPC and wait for the observation prompt to appear. The learning happens automatically after watching for a few moments
Stock up on fish before heading into dangerous areas. Cooked meals from fish are a cost-effective way to heal without spending gold
The observation learning system works for other skills too. Pay attention to what NPCs are doing throughout Pywel; if they are performing a unique action, there may be a skill to learn
