Overview
Mercury is a miscellaneous item and alchemy material in Crimson Desert. It is a silvery liquid metal that flows like water, earning the name "Flowing Silver." Prolonged skin contact causes discoloration, making it hazardous to handle. Mercury is a key ingredient in both Gold Bar and Platinum crafting, making it one of the most important alchemy materials in the game.
In-game description: "A silvery liquid metal that flows like water, earning the name 'Flowing Silver.' It seeps into the skin like poison upon prolonged contact, causing discoloration. It is harvested as a solid by freezing pools near Silver Wolf Mountain and the Hexe Sanctuary."
Where to Find Mercury
Mercury is harvested from frozen pools at two known locations. You need the ice imbuement for your bow charge skill to collect it.
Hexe Sanctuary (Primary Location)
The Hexe Sanctuary contains Mercury pools alongside the Brimstone deposits, making it efficient to farm both materials in a single trip. Look for silvery frozen pools in the area. Use your bow's charged shot with ice element imbued to freeze the pools into solid ice blocks. Breaking the blocks yields a large amount of Mercury. After harvesting, the pool disappears but respawns later, allowing repeated farming.
Silver Wolf Mountain
A second Mercury deposit is located near Silver Wolf Mountain in the Pailune region. The silvery pool is visible when skydiving down toward the area. Use the same ice bow technique to freeze and harvest it.
How to Harvest
Equip your bow and make sure ice element imbuement is active.
Find a Mercury pool (look for silvery liquid on the ground).
Use a charged bow shot aimed at the pool to freeze the liquid into ice blocks.
Attack the ice blocks to break them and collect Mercury.
The pool will vanish after harvesting but respawns over time. Return later for more.
Uses
Mercury is required for two of the most valuable alchemy recipes in the game:
Recipe | Mercury Required | Other Ingredients | |
|---|---|---|---|
3 | Brimstone x3, Silver Ore x10 | Witch NPC | |
3 | Gold Bar x1, Brimstone x4, Holy Water x2 | Witch NPC |
Tips
Always farm Mercury and Brimstone in the same trip at the Hexe Sanctuary, since both materials are found in the same area.
Make sure your bow has ice imbuement equipped before heading to Mercury locations. Without it, you cannot freeze the pools.
The Silver Wolf Mountain deposit is a good supplementary source if you need extra Mercury between Hexe Sanctuary respawns.
For a single Gold Bar, you need 3 Mercury. For one Platinum, you need 6 Mercury total (3 for the Gold Bar ingredient + 3 for the Platinum recipe itself).

Deadfire Mountain Pond Farming Route
The most reliable Mercury farm sits next to the Brimstone rocks on Deadfire Mountain. A small pond just east of the brimstone field can be frozen solid with ice-imbued arrows, and one freeze yields 15 to 20 Mercury per pass. Because both farms share the same fast travel point, players prepping a Platinum batch can pick up both ingredients on a single loop without leaving the region.
Freeze Pond Procedure
Mercury will not pop out of an unfrozen pond. The water has to be turned to solid ice first by attacking it with a bow loaded with the frost element.
Unlock the frost element on a bow loadout. See Elemental Skills Unlock Guide if frost is not yet available.
Fast travel to the abyss crescent at Deadfire Mountain, run the brimstone loop, then continue slightly east until a small pond appears.
Stand on the bank and aim a charged bow shot at the water surface, then release. Each ice-imbued arrow chills part of the pond.
Repeat three or four times. After the third or fourth shot the entire pond freezes over with a visible sheet of ice.
Walk onto the ice and collect the Mercury globules scattered across the surface. A clean freeze drops 15 to 20 Mercury at once.
Pond Route Summary
Step | Action | Notes |
|---|---|---|
1 | Equip a bow with frost imbuement | Frost must be unlocked first; see Elemental Skills Unlock Guide. |
2 | ||
3 | Walk east of the brimstone rocks until the pond appears | Short on-foot leg, no climbing required. |
4 | Fire 3 to 4 ice-imbued shots into the water | The pond freezes over within a handful of seconds. |
5 | Walk on the ice and collect the dropped Mercury | Each pass yields 15 to 20 Mercury. |
6 | Take the haul back to a witch station for Platinum crafting | Each Platinum bar uses 2 Mercury, so 20 Mercury covers 10 platinum bars. |
Companion Farming with Brimstone
Because the pond and the Brimstone rocks share the same Deadfire Mountain crescent, a single fast travel covers both halves of the Platinum recipe. The recommended order is brimstone first (further from the spawn point, slightly more involved) then mercury on the walk back; that ordering ensures the harvest does not exceed inventory cap on either material before the other is collected. Players targeting the Aeserion Longsword forging chain typically alternate this loop with one church visit for Holy Water between Platinum batches.
