Overview
New Journey is the fourth and final quest of the Prologue: Dead of Night in Crimson Desert. Sebastian, an artisan from Wycliffe Mappery, has pulled Kliff from the river and treated his wounds. Now recovered, Kliff follows Sebastian on a journey toward the City of Hernand. Along the way, they encounter Bleed Bandits and two Sealed Abyss Artifacts that offer optional combat challenges. Completing this quest unlocks Chapter 1: The First Encounter.

Walkthrough
Follow Sebastian
Kliff wakes up by the river, surrounded by fishermen. Sebastian stands behind them. Before approaching Sebastian, you can hold L1/LB to observe the fishermen. Doing so teaches Kliff the Fishing skill, which becomes available from this point on.
Walk up to Sebastian and interact with him to trigger a short cutscene. He begins walking away. Follow him by pressing and holding the movement button (X on PlayStation, A on Xbox) to match his pace.
Defeat the Bleed Bandits
A group of Bleed Bandits arrives to extort Sebastian. Two enemies attack immediately after the cutscene, so start the fight by blocking (L1/LB) since they swing right away. Use timed blocks to counter their attacks and follow up with light attacks (R1/RB). Defeating them rewards 1x Standard Inventory Expansion Tool.
Head to Hernand
After the fight, follow Sebastian again on foot. He leads you to a pair of horses. Mount up with the interact button (Square/X) and ride northeast alongside him toward House Celeste and the City of Hernand.
Sealed Abyss Artifacts (Optional)
Along the horseback route, two Sealed Abyss Artifacts appear as glowing markers. Interacting with them triggers short combat challenges:
Sword of Trials I: A combat trial focused on offense. Completing it awards a weapon-related reward.
Shield of Unchanging Will I: A defensive trial that tests blocking and countering. Rewards a shield item (Bekker Large Shield can be found in this area).
These Sealed Abyss Artifacts are optional and can be skipped. However, they provide useful early gear and serve as good practice for the combat system.
Arrive at Hernand
A final cutscene plays as Kliff and Sebastian reach the outskirts of the City of Hernand. This completes the Prologue and unlocks Chapter 1: The First Encounter. The first quest of Chapter 1, Where Rumors Gather, begins automatically.

Learning Fishing
Before approaching Sebastian, look toward the fishermen standing by the river. Hold the aim button (L1/LB) to observe them. This triggers the Observation Learning system and teaches Kliff the Fishing skill. Do not skip this step. Fishing becomes a valuable resource-gathering tool for the rest of the game, providing food ingredients and crafting materials. You can start fishing at any body of water from this point forward.
Bleed Bandit Fight Details
After the initial cutscene with Sebastian, a group of Bleed Bandits arrives to extort him. Two bandits attack immediately after the cutscene transition, so block immediately by holding L1/LB. They swing during the tail end of the transition, catching unprepared players off guard.
Use timed blocks to stagger the bandits, then follow up with light attacks (R1/RB). Timed blocks are performed by pressing L1/LB right as an enemy attack is about to land. A successful timed block creates a brief opening for a counterattack. Defeating both bandits rewards one Standard Inventory Expansion Tool, which permanently increases your carrying capacity.
Horseback Journey to Hernand
After the bandit fight, follow Sebastian on foot until he leads you to a pair of horses. Mount up with the interact button (Square/X on PlayStation, A on Xbox) and ride northeast alongside him toward House Celeste and the City of Hernand. The horseback section introduces mounted controls and lets you ride through the countryside at a relaxed pace.
Sealed Abyss Artifacts (Optional)
Two Sealed Abyss Artifacts appear along the horseback route as glowing markers. These are optional combat challenges, but they reward useful early-game gear and serve as excellent practice for the tougher fights in Chapter 1.

The first artifact (a birdhouse shape) appears on the right side of the road shortly after crossing a bridge. The second artifact (a memorial marker) is on the left side further along the road. Dismount your horse to interact with each one. Inside the challenge, you fight within a timed arena using either sword or shield combat depending on the trial type.
Gatherable Items Along the Route
Several collectible items can be picked up along the horseback path between Wycliffe Mappery and Hernand. Keep an eye out for glowing resource nodes near the roadside.

Arriving at Hernand
A final cutscene plays as Kliff and Sebastian reach the outskirts of the City of Hernand. The camera pans over the city walls and the Hernand Castle campsite, establishing the scale of the settlement. This completes the Prologue: Dead of Night and unlocks Chapter 1: The First Encounter. The first quest of Chapter 1, Where Rumors Gather, begins automatically after the transition.
Tips
Do not skip the fishermen observation. Learning Fishing this early gives you a free resource-gathering skill for the rest of the game.
Block immediately when the Bleed Bandits appear. They attack during the tail end of the cutscene transition, so be ready.
The Sealed Abyss Artifacts are good warmup fights. Even if you are not interested in the rewards, the combat practice helps before the more demanding fights in Chapter 1.
