Major expansion with all 9 life stage durations, creation restrictions, aging speed settings, cheats, and activities per stage
Every Zoi in inZOI progresses through 9 life stages from birth to death. Each stage has a set duration in in-game days, determines which activities and interactions are available, and shapes the Zoi's role within their household and community. Life stages progress automatically as time passes. Aging cannot be disabled through normal settings, though cheats exist that pause or prevent aging.
The following table lists every life stage, its default duration, and whether it can be selected during character creation:
Newborn - 1 in-game day. Birth only, not selectable at creation
Toddler - approximately 2 in-game days. Birth only, not selectable at creation
Child - 7 in-game days. Selectable at creation
Adolescent - 6 in-game days. Not selectable at creation, reached only through aging
Teenager - 4.5 in-game days. Selectable at creation
Young Adult - 9 in-game days. Selectable at creation
Adult - 20 in-game days. Selectable at creation
Middle-Aged - 16 in-game days. Selectable at creation
Senior - variable duration, ends in death. Selectable at creation
In total, a Zoi that lives from Newborn to the end of the Senior stage will experience roughly 65+ in-game days of life, though the exact Senior duration varies. The stages selectable at creation are Child, Teenager, Young Adult, Adult, Middle-Aged, and Senior. The remaining three stages, Newborn, Toddler, and Adolescent, are only reachable through pregnancy and natural aging.
Newborns exist for only 1 in-game day before aging into Toddlers. They are completely dependent on other household members for all needs. Newborns cannot move independently, interact socially, or perform any autonomous actions. Other Zois in the household must feed, bathe, and care for them. A Newborn is only created when a pregnant Zoi gives birth through the pregnancy system.
Toddlers last approximately 2 in-game days. They gain limited mobility and can crawl or toddle around the lot. Toddlers still require significant care from older household members, especially for feeding and hygiene. They begin to develop basic skills and can learn simple actions from nearby Zois. Like Newborns, Toddlers can only exist through natural birth and aging.
Children live for 7 in-game days and are the youngest stage selectable during character creation. Children attend school, develop friendships, learn skills at a moderate rate, and can participate in many household activities. They cannot hold jobs, drive cars, or engage in romantic interactions. Children require supervision from older household members but have far more independence than Toddlers.
Adolescents spend 6 in-game days in this transitional stage between childhood and the teenage years. This stage is not selectable during character creation and can only be reached by a Child aging up. Adolescents gain access to more social interactions and begin developing stronger emotional responses. They continue attending school and have expanded hobby options compared to Children.
The Teenager stage lasts 4.5 in-game days. Teenagers have access to most social interactions including early romantic options. They can develop skills at a faster rate than Children and have more autonomy in daily decisions. Teenagers attend school and can take on part-time jobs. Their emotional range expands compared to younger stages, and they are more susceptible to mood swings.
Young Adults live for 9 in-game days and represent the first fully independent life stage. This is the earliest stage at which Zois can select a Desired Life, pursue all available career paths, attend university, enter full romantic relationships, get married, start a family through pregnancy, and engage in every type of interaction. Young Adults have peak skill learning rates.
Adults have the longest standard stage at 20 in-game days. All activities available to Young Adults remain accessible. Adults continue to build skills, advance in careers, raise families, and accumulate wealth. The longer duration makes the Adult stage the core of most Zois' productive lives. Adults can still romance other Zois, attend social events, and pursue hobbies.
Middle-Aged Zois live for 16 in-game days. Physically, their appearance shows signs of aging if the age-appropriate complexion settings are enabled in character creation. All Adult activities remain available. Middle-Aged Zois often have established careers, extensive relationship networks, and developed skill sets. Their needs may decay at slightly different rates compared to younger stages.
Seniors have a variable duration that ends in death. The exact timing of death is not fixed and carries an element of randomness. Seniors can continue all Adult-level activities until death occurs. Their physical appearance reflects advanced age, and they may experience need decay changes. When a Senior dies, they may become a ghost depending on the circumstances.
By default, one in-game day equals 90 minutes of real time. This means a Child's 7-day life stage takes roughly 10.5 real hours to complete. The day length is adjustable through the time and seasons settings, with options ranging from 48 minutes per in-game day (fastest) to 24 real hours per in-game day (slowest). Aging speed is directly tied to day length: longer days mean each life stage takes proportionally more real time to complete.
There is no built-in setting to disable aging or death through the normal options menu. Players who want to freeze their Zois at a particular stage must use cheats:
stopAging - pauses the aging process for all Zois, keeping them at their current life stage indefinitely
immortalZoi - prevents death from all causes, including natural aging death for Seniors
When a Zoi reaches the end of a life stage's duration, they automatically age into the next stage. The transition updates their physical appearance, unlocks or locks certain interactions, and may trigger changes in need priorities. For example, transitioning from Teenager to Young Adult unlocks Desired Lives and full career access. Aging transitions happen at the end of the day and are announced through the Psycat notification system.
