Comprehensive expansion with detailed preference effects, all activities, and skill connections
Every Zoi can select up to 10 preferences from 7 categories. Preferences are chosen during character creation and can be edited anytime afterward through the Zoi Card interface (press O, see controls).
Preferences affect four areas of gameplay:
Autonomy — when autonomy is on (press T), the Zoi gravitates toward activities matching their preferences. A Zoi with the "Gaming" preference will choose to play video games when they have free time.
Desired lives — preferences influence which desired lives and ambitions are recommended for the Zoi.
Social interactions — Zois with matching preferences have more positive interactions and build relationships faster. Conflicting preferences can lead to arguments.
Emotional responses — preferences shape how a Zoi reacts emotionally (see emotions) to events. A Zoi who prefers animals gets happier around pets.
Jogging, Strength Training, Yoga, Boxing, Ball Sports. These connect to the Fitness skill and physical activities. Zois with sport preferences autonomously exercise more and enjoy fitness equipment.
Coffee, Street Food, Fast Food, Meat, Vegetables, Spicy Food, Cake. Food preferences affect which meals a Zoi gets the most emotional satisfaction from. A Zoi who prefers Coffee gets a mood boost from drinking specialty lattes.
Animals, Plants. Zois with the Animals preference interact more enthusiastically with animals. The Plants preference connects to gardening enjoyment.
Dancing, Singing, Taking Photos, Appreciating Art, Painting, Gaming. These are the core recreational preferences. Zois with these preferences seek out the matching activities during free time and level related skills faster.
Self-Help Books, Novels, Health, Art. Reading preferences determine which book genres a Zoi enjoys most. Reading preferred genres provides better skill gains and more positive emotions.
Guitar, Piano, Drums. Connects to the Instrument skill. Zois with instrument preferences practice more on their own and enjoy busking and performances.
Cooking, Cleaning, Laundry, Bathing, Car Washing, Repairing. These are daily life activities. A Zoi who prefers Cleaning will autonomously tidy up the house (improving cleanliness) without being told. A Zoi who prefers Cooking gains more satisfaction from preparing meals.
Beyond the preference system, here is every hobby and leisure activity available in the game:
Painting — draw or doodle at a table, or paint on easels and wall canvases. Levels the Art skill. Paintings can be sold through the Pocket Market on the smartphone.
Musical instruments — play guitar, piano/keyboard, or drums at home. Children can use drum kits and keyboards. Levels the Instrument skill. Write and sell music compositions on the computer.
Singing and karaoke — sing at home or visit karaoke venues like Coin Booth Karaoke in Dowon. Levels the Performance skill.
Photography — take selfies and photos of the world. Levels the Media Production skill. See Photo Mode for camera controls.
Stand-up comedy — perform comedy routines at appropriate venues. Levels the Performance skill.
Busking — perform music in public areas (parks, cafes, beaches) to earn Meow. Crowded locations with more audience members pay better. Connects to the Instrument skill.
Dancing — a leisure activity available at home, clubs, and parties. Connected to the Idol/Performer career paths.
Working out — use gym equipment (squat racks, bench presses, free weights, pull-down machines), do yoga, or exercise outdoors. Locations include Muscle Beach in Bliss Bay. See fitness for details.
Swimming — swim in pools or the ocean. See swimming.
Surfing — surf at beaches in Bliss Bay and Cahaya. Requires Fitness level 3. See surfing.
Beach activities — beach volleyball and other recreational activities at beach lots.
Video games — play on a computer or console. Levels the Programming skill.
Reading — read books on tablets, bookshelves, or at libraries. Different genres level different skills: speech books increase Rhetoric, tech books increase Programming, health books increase Fitness knowledge, and general fiction builds Critical Thinking.
Coffee crafting — brew coffee with a grinder and espresso machine at home. Levels the Coffee Crafting skill.
Cooking — prepare meals at home using recipes. Watch cooking shows for inspiration. See restaurants and dining.
Fishing — fish at designated spots in each city (near rivers, lakes, and beaches). Fish can be kept for cooking or sold for Meow.
Gardening — buy seeds, plant crops, water them daily, and harvest. See gardening for full details.
