Complete guide to the gem crafting system in inZOI, introduced with the Island Getaway DLC. Overview
Gem crafting is a resource gathering and crafting system introduced with the Island Getaway DLC (v0.3.0, August 2025). It allows Zois to mine raw minerals and gemstones from locations across all three cities, refine them at a Crafting Table, and produce polished jewels, tools, and accessories. The system is tied to three skills: Gathering, Handiwork, and Collecting.
Pickaxe tiers
Mining requires a pickaxe. The lowest tiers are sold at the Farm Store in Cahaya, while higher tiers must be crafted at a Crafting Table using materials gathered through mining.

Higher-tier pickaxes not only mine faster but also increase the probability of extracting rarer gemstones from Mining Spots. Investing in pickaxe upgrades early pays off significantly over time.
Mining locations
Mining Spots appear as rocky or shiny formations in the environment. They are found across all three available cities:
Cahaya
Xiang Park: a public park with multiple Mining Spots.
Bliss Garden: a garden area with accessible ore deposits.
Cahaya Farmland: mining spots interspersed among the farm plots.
Harang River Park: along the river, with both surface and riverside deposits.
Dowon
River park: Mining Spots along the riverbanks in Dowon's park areas.
Bliss Bay
Near schools: Mining Spots located around school grounds in Bliss Bay.
Mining process
To mine gems:
Locate a Mining Spot (look for rocky or shiny formations in the environment).
Interact with it and select "Mine with Tools" to use your pickaxe.
The Zoi will mine for a duration that depends on the pickaxe tier and the Zoi's Gathering skill level.
Raw gems and minerals are added to the Zoi's inventory upon completion.
Hand-mining (without a pickaxe) is possible but significantly slower and yields fewer results. Always equip a pickaxe for efficient mining.
Mining develops the Gathering skill. As the skill increases, mining speed improves and rarer gems become accessible. Additionally, having the "Concentrated" mood active during mining improves the drop rate for rare gemstones. Use meditation, yoga, or a quiet environment to build concentration before a mining session.
Gemstones by city
Different cities and locations yield different gemstone types. Some gems are exclusive to a single city, while others appear across multiple regions.

Pearl is notable because it is gathered from beach sand rather than traditional Mining Spots. Larimar is unique in requiring snorkeling to find underwater deposits. Both of these Cahaya-exclusive methods make use of the island's coastal environment.
The Crafting Table
The Crafting Table is a furniture item that can be purchased through the build menu and placed in your Zoi's home or workshop. It is the central workstation for all gem refinement and creation:
Refine raw gems: turn raw, uncut gemstones into polished jewels with higher value.
Craft tools: build better pickaxes (Gold and Gem/Diamond tiers) from refined materials.
Craft jewelry and accessories: create wearable items from polished gems and metals.
Using the Crafting Table develops the Handiwork skill. Higher Handiwork levels unlock more complex recipes and improve the quality of crafted items.
Jewelry and accessories
Crafted jewelry serves two purposes:
Wearable accessories: in Character Creation (the Creative Studio), gemstones and crafted jewelry can be applied as decorative accessories on Zois. This adds visual flair tied directly to your gathering efforts.
Sale value: polished gems and finished jewelry items can be sold for Meow at market stands or the Resale Store in Cahaya, providing an income stream from mining.
Family Collection Log
All mined items are automatically logged in the Family Collection Log, a household-wide tracker that records every gemstone, mineral, and crafted item your family has produced. The log is organized by category and city of origin.
Completing a full collection (all items within a category) unlocks exclusive furniture rewards. These rewards are unique decor items that cannot be purchased and serve as trophies for dedicated collectors.
Tracking progress in the Collection Log develops the Collecting skill. Higher Collecting skill levels may reveal hints about where to find missing items.

Tips
Start with the cheapest pickaxe from the Farm Store and upgrade as soon as you can craft Gold or Gem/Diamond tiers. The difference in mining speed and rare gem rates is substantial.
Mine in the "Concentrated" mood for the best drop rates. Use meditation or yoga before a mining session to achieve this mood.
Larimar (Cahaya) requires snorkeling, not pickaxe mining. Make sure you have access to snorkeling equipment before trying to collect it.
Green Mica is exclusive to Dowon. If you live in Cahaya or Bliss Bay, you will need to travel to Dowon to complete your collection.
Check the Family Collection Log regularly. The exclusive furniture rewards for completing categories are some of the rarest decor items in the game.
Pearls from Cahaya beach sand are easy to miss. Look for "Gather" interaction prompts on sandy patches near the shore.
Sell refined gems rather than raw ones. The Crafting Table significantly increases their value.
