Full rewrite covering the Cahaya/Island Getaway DLC, its contents, naming history, and all features introduced
Cahaya is the development codename and original name for the island destination that was released as Kucingku in inZOI. The word "Cahaya" means "light" or "radiance" in Malay and Indonesian. During development and in early press coverage, the entire tropical island area was referred to by this name. Before the August 2025 launch, the location was renamed to Kucingku ("My Cat" in Indonesian and Malay), and the Cahaya name was preserved as the name of the temple on the main island.
The term "Cahaya" is still commonly used by players and in community discussions to refer to both the location and the DLC that introduced it. The DLC's official title is "Island Getaway". It was released on August 20, 2025 as a free update for all inZOI owners. It was first announced at gamescom 2025.
The Island Getaway DLC was one of the largest updates to inZOI since early access launch. It added a new playable location and introduced several gameplay systems and features that affected the entire game, not just the island area.
The centerpiece of the DLC is the Kucingku island destination. It consists of three separate islands connected by water taxi: a main island with farming, gathering, and fishing; a resort island with villa lodging and recreation; and a deserted island with mysterious elements to discover. The location is inspired by Bali and Southeast Asian beach resorts.
Kucingku introduced resort-style accommodation with three tiers: Garden Villa, Premier Ocean View Villa, and Private Water Villa. Activities include snorkeling among coral reefs, sea turtles, and dolphins; surfing; farming; fishing; and fortune drawing at the Cahaya Temple. The temple grounds are populated by cats, tying into the location's name.
Before the Island Getaway update, Zois could not swim. The DLC introduced a full swimming system that works in oceans and pools across all locations, not just Kucingku. Zois can wade into water, swim freestyle, float, and dive. Swimming affects needs (energy, fun, hygiene) and is also relevant to certain fitness activities.
The update added the ability to continue playing as a ghost after a Zoi dies. Ghost Zois can still interact with the world and other Zois in limited ways. This expanded the deaths system by giving players options beyond simply losing a character. Ghost behavior and abilities are covered in the ghosts article.
14 new vehicles were added to the game. These are primarily two-wheeled: motorcycles, mopeds, and scooters. They are usable in all three locations (Dowon, Bliss Bay, and Kucingku) but were designed with Kucingku's narrow island paths in mind. They complement the existing car system and provide more affordable transportation options.
The DLC introduced freelancer jobs, a new category of work that does not require Zois to report to a fixed workplace on a set schedule. Freelancers complete tasks on their own time and earn Meow per completed assignment. This work style is particularly suited to Zois living on the islands, where there are no traditional office buildings.
The update expanded the Edit City tools with additional options for customizing public spaces. New decoration types and animal placement options were added. The expanded tools apply to all three locations, not just Kucingku.
The Island Getaway update coincided with the release of inZOI on macOS. Before this update, the game was only available on Windows. The macOS version has the same system requirements adjusted for Apple hardware and supports the full feature set including modding through Canvas.
Within Kucingku, the Cahaya name lives on as the Cahaya Temple, located on the main island. It is a traditional Southeast Asian-style temple where Zois can draw fortunes and interact with the many cats that roam the grounds. The fortune-drawing minigame produces randomized results that can shift a Zoi's emotions or karma. The temple is one of the most visited spots in Kucingku.
The Island Getaway DLC was well received by the inZOI community, largely because it was free. The addition of swimming was a frequently requested feature, and the tropical setting provided a stark contrast to the urban environments of Dowon and Bliss Bay. Players commonly still refer to the entire island area as "Cahaya" in community discussions, forums, and multiplayer contexts, despite the official rename.
