Overview

inZOI is built on Unreal Engine 5 and requires Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) with DirectX 12. KRAFTON provides four specification tiers, each paired with two graphics presets (a "Better Performance" and a "Better Quality" option, for eight presets total). All tiers run some form of upscaling by default. The game is GPU-heavy enough that KRAFTON expects everyone to use DLSS, FSR, or XeSS rather than running at native resolution.

An SSD is not strictly required but is strongly recommended. Installing on an HDD leads to noticeably longer load times and can cause texture pop-in during gameplay. The different storage figures across tiers (40 GB at minimum, up to 75 GB at high) reflect additional high-resolution assets that get downloaded for higher settings.

Minimum

At minimum specs, the "Better Performance" preset uses Ultra Performance upscaling, which at 1080p drops the internal rendering resolution down to 640×360. That works for basic gameplay but expect significant blurriness. The "Better Quality" preset for this tier is more reasonable but will dip below 30 FPS in busy areas.

Smart Zoi GPU requirements

Smart Zoi is the AI system that gives Zois autonomous inner thoughts and behavior. It requires an NVIDIA RTX GPU AMD cards are not supported. The feature won't even appear in the options menu on non-RTX hardware. Smart Zoi has its own tiered requirements:

When Smart Zoi is active, the graphics settings automatically drop by one tier to free up GPU headroom for the AI model (which uses roughly 1 GB of VRAM). You can apply Smart Zoi to up to 300 Zois in a single city. Currently, Smart Zoi only supports English.

Upscaling and ray tracing

inZOI supports three upscaling technologies:

• NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution (version 3.5 at launch, upgradeable to DLSS 4)

• AMD FSR 3 with Performance, Balanced, Quality, and Native AA modes

• Intel XeSS

Frame Generation has not been confirmed as of Early Access. All eight official graphics profiles have some form of upscaling enabled by default.

Ray tracing is available through Hardware Lumen (UE5's global illumination system). In benchmarks, Hardware Lumen runs only about 6–8% slower than software Lumen, which is a surprisingly small hit. Enabling Fallback Mesh alongside ray tracing gives a bigger performance boost. One benchmark showed 1% lows jumping from 44 FPS to 58 FPS with it enabled.

Actual install size

The Steam store lists storage requirements ranging from 40 to 75 GB depending on tier, but the actual initial download is around 20–22 GB compressed. The game grows from there as updates, Canvas downloads, and AI features accumulate. The varying storage numbers across tiers suggest the game downloads higher-resolution textures and assets for higher settings.

Performance tips

• If using Smart Zoi, set the Applied Range to "My Zoi's Family" or "My Zoi" instead of the full city to reduce lag.

• Set the Smart Zoi Queue Limit to 8 for better performance.

• Enable Fallback Mesh when using ray tracing for a noticeable improvement in 1% lows.

• Install the game on an SSD. This reduces loading times and helps with texture streaming.

• If your PC falls below the minimum specs, GeForce NOW cloud gaming is an option, the game is available on the service.

Benchmark reference

For context, here are benchmark numbers from an RTX 4090 at 4K with DLSS Quality upscaling:

Without any upscaling (DLAA only) on the same card: roughly 91 FPS at 1080p, 78 FPS at 1440p, and 61 FPS at 4K at maximum quality. These numbers help set expectations. InZOI is a demanding title even for high-end hardware.
