Iron Eagle is a legendary mechanical-bird Pets tame in Crimson Desert added in Patch 1.05.00 on May 2, 2026. It is acquired at Hawkstone Ruins by interacting with a cogwheel statue at dawn, then feeding the arriving bird through the Sotdae of Bond with Mercury ores until Trust reaches +100. The Iron Eagle is one of two legendary bird pets shipped together in 1.05; the other is the Hyacinth Macaw.

Where to Find
The Iron Eagle is tied to Hawkstone Ruins, a small ruin site located south of the City of Delesyia. On the world map the ruins sit just above the letter A in the Delesyia label, in the Sandy Mountains region. The fast-travel waypoint at Delesyia is the cleanest approach; the ruins are within easy ride distance south of the city.
Acquisition Walkthrough
Have the Sotdae of Bond in your inventory. The feeder is awarded by completing the Authorized Access section of the Trembling Woods faction questline for the Pororin Forest Guardians, given by Arkin in Pororin Village. Players who already cleared that section before Patch 1.04.00 received the Sotdae automatically.
Stockpile at least 20 Mercury ores. Mercury can be mined from veins around the Hawkstone Ruins area itself, so a single trip can supply both the bait and the trip out.
Travel to Hawkstone Ruins. Wait or sleep until in-game dawn, around 4:45 to 5:00 AM.
Interact with the cogwheel statue at the center of the ruins. The statue activates and the Iron Eagle arrives shortly after, perching on or near the structure.
Place the Sotdae of Bond on the ground near the statue. Load it with the 20 Mercury ores. The Iron Eagle accepts Mercury as feed.
Stand back and wait for the bird to feed. Each successful feed raises Trust toward +100. Repeat the cycle if the gauge is not yet full.
When Trust reaches +100, interact with the bird and select Take In. The Iron Eagle is registered as a pet and can be summoned from the pets tab.
Hyacinth Macaw Ordering Issue
There is a known ordering issue between the two 1.05 legendary birds. Taming the Iron Eagle before the Hyacinth Macaw can prevent the Macaw from spawning at Giant's Yard Outpost. Players who want both legendary birds should tame the Hyacinth Macaw first, then return for the Iron Eagle. Pearl Abyss acknowledged the issue but did not patch it in Patch 1.05.01, so the workaround stands at the time of writing.
As a Pet
Once registered, the Iron Eagle behaves like other registered bird pets: summon and dismiss from the pets tab, follow the player in flight, and pick up loot from the ground while flying. Its visual model is mechanical rather than organic, with metal plumage and visible cogwork, distinguishing it from the standard Eagle, Bald Eagle, and Steppe Eagle entries in the bird pet roster. It is one of the two legendary pets in the bird category alongside the Phoenix.
Tips
Sleep on the way. Sleeping at the City of Delesyia inn is the fastest way to skip ahead to the next dawn cycle if you arrive at the wrong time of day.
Mine in the same trip. Mercury veins in the Hawkstone Ruins area mean a single ride out to Delesyia can supply the 20 Mercury ores and the tame attempt without a return trip.
Quietly approach. The cogwheel statue activation is calm, but startling the bird with sprint or sudden ranged attacks can break the tame loop and force a reset on the next dawn.
Tame the Macaw first. If you want both legendary birds, finish the Hyacinth Macaw at Giant's Yard Outpost before triggering the Iron Eagle.
Pre-load the Sotdae before the cutscene. Drop the feeder and add the Mercury or Platinum before pulling the cogwheel handle, not after the bird arrives.
Save before triggering the lever. If the bird flees mid-feed, reloading the save is faster than waiting for the next in-game dawn.
Dismiss other pets first. Active companions can spook the eagle; un-summon any cat, dog, or bird before stepping into the ring.
Stand a few steps back from the Sotdae. Hugging the feeder tends to scare the eagle off. Place the feeder, then back up before the bird approaches.
Run toward the eagle after the cutscene. As soon as control returns, sprint at the bird to make it turn and approach the feeder, rather than waiting for it to come on its own.
Recovering the Sotdae of Bond
Before approaching Hawkstone Ruins the player must hold a Sotdae of Bond in inventory. The feeder is the same one used to tame every other bird in Crimson Desert, awarded by completing Authorized Access in the Pororin Forest Guardians questline. If the Sotdae is missing from the active inventory, check Private Storage first; if still not present, visit Carl at the camp and recover it from his Recover Items menu. Triggering the cogwheel statue without the Sotdae forces the bird to fly off after the cutscene, and chasing it back to the ruins is slow.
Where to Get Mercury
Twenty units of Mercury are needed for the Mercury feed path. The cleanest source is two open mercury pools that respawn over in-game time, both reachable on foot or by gliding from a Sky Islands:
Silver Wolf Mountain pool. On the slope above Silver Wolf Mountain, a small bright silver pool sits in clear view from above. Three ice-imbued bow shots into the pool freeze and shatter the surface, dropping roughly 12 to 13 mercury per pool.
Smoking Lands pool. East of the Palune region in The Smoking Lands, near the brimstone vents, a larger pool yields a similar amount with the same three ice-imbued shots.
Both pools refill. Both pools regenerate after roughly an in-game week, so the route is repeatable across taming attempts.
An alternative early-game route is gifting hide to the scholars at the Scholar's Stone Institute. Maxing scholar trust to 100 percent (about ten pieces of hide) returns a mix of Brimstone, Mercury, and rubber, which conveniently doubles up because the platinum recipe also calls for brimstone. Hide itself is farmed from animal spawns near most fast-travel waypoints.
Crafting a Platinum Bar (Instant Tame Path)
A single Platinum bar fed to the bird through the Sotdae instantly fills the trust gauge to plus one hundred, replacing the slower Mercury cycle. The platinum recipe (Alchemy Formula: Platinum) is recovered during a refugee-related discovery on the world map, and the bar itself is crafted at any witch vendor. Components per bar:
Component | Quantity | Where to Get |
|---|---|---|
1 | Crafted from 3 Gold Ore using Alchemy Formula: Gold Bar at any witch vendor. Gold ore drops from any of the ten gold mines on the map. | |
4 | Mined from brimstone deposits or earned from Scholar's Stone Institute trust gifts. | |
3 | From either of the two ice-shot pools above, or from scholar trust gifts. | |
2 | Purchased at any town church. |
A second platinum-side trick is the Golden Apple route into Gold Bars. Walking through a Flax field near Palune until a golden-apple hedgehog spawns, then using Blinding Flash to drop the apple, gives one easy gold ore equivalent without mining.
Cogwheel Statue and the Dawn Riddle
The center of Hawkstone Ruins is a ring of standing stones surrounding a single tall pillar with the Iron Eagle perched as a steel statue at its top. The pillar is a slow-turning Cogwheel mechanism: every component, including the eagle itself, rotates a few degrees per in-game minute. The mechanism only aligns and exposes its handle around in-game dawn, which is the trigger window for the tame.
A gravestone next to the pillar carries the riddle that explains the trigger. The inscription reads in essence: step beyond the edge of darkness and grasp the handle of dawn to awaken the slumbering steel; offer the silver shards flowing through the Sotdae and claim the wings of steel. Two notes on the riddle:
Handle of dawn. Pulling the lever has to land at the moment dawn breaks. Standing inside the open ring before 5:00 AM and prompting the lever as the sun climbs is the safest pattern.
Silver shards mean Mercury. Despite the wording, ordinary silver ore is rejected by the feeder. The silver shards in the riddle are Mercury, which has the same shimmering look. Platinum bars also count for this slot.
Feeding Mechanics
Once the eagle perches at the Sotdae, each bite is a fixed-size feed. The two paths differ in how many bites are needed and how long the bird stays put:
Feed Item | Per-Bite Cost | Bites to +100 Trust | Approximate Time |
|---|---|---|---|
5 Mercury | 4 bites (20 Mercury total) | About one in-game minute of feeding | |
Platinum Bar | 1 Bar | 1 bite | Instant +100 Trust |
Pre-load the chosen feed into the Sotdae before the cogwheel cutscene plays. If the Sotdae is empty when the eagle arrives, the bird turns away and flies back to roost, forcing a return to the next dawn cycle.
Step-by-Step Tame Procedure
Stockpile feed before traveling. Carry either 20 Mercury or one Platinum bar, plus the Sotdae of Bond.
Sleep until in-game 3:00 to 4:00 AM. Use any inn (the Delesyia inn is closest to the ruins). Arriving too early is fine; arriving after 5:00 AM forces a full day of waiting.
Use Fast Travel to Delesyia. From the Fast Travel point, ride south past the city wall to the standing-stone ring.
Pre-place the Sotdae and load the feed. Drop the Sotdae of Bond on flat ground near the cogwheel pillar, open the feeder, remove any meat from earlier birds, then add only the chosen feed (20 Mercury or 1 Platinum bar).
Save the game and dismiss other pets. Other summoned pets can scare the eagle off mid-tame. Saving before the cutscene gives a fast retry if the bird flees.
Trigger the cogwheel handle at dawn. As the clock crosses 5:00 AM, the cogwheel ring fully aligns. Hold the interact button on the lever. The cutscene plays, the Iron Eagle is electrified to life, and it flies off the perch.
Run toward the eagle, do not stand still. As soon as control returns, sprint at the bird so it turns back to face the player. Standing right next to it tends to spook it; place the player a short distance from the Sotdae and let the bird approach.
Let the feed cycle complete. Mercury runs four bites for plus one hundred trust; Platinum is one bite. Do not interrupt the cycle with a sprint or a ranged attack.
Take In the eagle. When the trust gauge fills, prompt the bird and choose Take In. The Iron Eagle is registered as a pet.
Stow the Sotdae. Pick the feeder back up before leaving so it does not have to be recovered from Carl later.
