Red Panda

The Red Panda is one of the small-animal Pets introduced in Patch 1.08.00, and it is easily one of the cutest companions in the update. Like the other new pets, it has no combat value of its own, but it follows you around camp and adds personality to your stable. What sets the Red Panda apart is how quickly it can be tamed: with the right food, a single feed maxes its Trust instantly instead of forcing you to return to the same animal across several in-game days.

How to Tame

Red Pandas spawn around the Haunted Hill just outside Hernand. The spot sits between Three Saints Falls and the hill, ringed by small rivers and dotted with flowers, which makes the bright orange animals easy to pick out from a distance or from the air. Several of them roam the same patch, so you have plenty of attempts if your first try fails.

These pandas are skittish and will dash away the moment you get close. Do not try to walk up slowly. Instead, sprint in, run up directly behind one, and grab it by the scruff of its neck the instant you are in range. Once you have a panda held, feed it. Trust caps at 100, so any single feed that grants +100 Trust tames the animal on the spot, after which the Take In prompt lets you register it as a pet. If you arrive without a max-Trust food, you can still raise Trust gradually with smaller feeds, but it is far faster to bring an instant-tame food with you. Favorite Foods and Trust

The Red Panda has tiered food preferences. Its top-tier foods each grant the full +100 Trust, meaning one successful feed is an instant tame. A plain Apple also works but gives much less Trust per feed, so it takes several feeds to reach the cap.

Where to Get the Food

Both instant-tame foods are easy to stock up on before heading to the panda spawn:

• Golden Apple: Golden apple hedgehogs carry one apple each on their back. A reliable place to farm them is the patch of farmland near Tinkerton, where a leaning tower in the middle of the field marks the spot and flax bushes along the edge trigger the hedgehogs to appear. Hit a hedgehog with Blinding Flash to knock the apple off its back, then pick it up off the ground without needing to fight or steal.

• Rough Bamboo Stalk: Chop bamboo at the Bamboo Forest Seonangdang, the bamboo grove in the Serpent Marsh to the east of Hernand. Cutting bamboo yields Rough Bamboo Stalk, but pace yourself: clearing too much too quickly can summon the Spirit of the Trees, which will attack you while you gather.
