Taming
To tame the Spotted Dog, approach it in the wild and interact with it to begin building Trust. Dogs can be petted directly by pressing the interaction button. Each petting action grants +5 Trust, and you can pet up to five times per in-game day for a maximum of +25 Trust from petting alone.
You can also feed the Spotted Dog up to three times per in-game day. Drop food from your inventory near the dog to feed it. Spotted Dogs prefer Marbled Meat as their favorite food, granting +35 trust per feeding. Their curious nature means they are often approachable near market areas.
Once the Spotted Dog reaches 100 Trust, hold the interaction button to register it as your companion. Dogs can often be tamed within one to two in-game days with consistent petting and feeding with their favorite food.
Feeding
The Spotted Dog's favorite food is Marbled Meat, which grants the maximum +35 Trust per feeding. Other accepted foods grant +10 Trust per feeding.
Dogs accept a wide variety of meat, fish, and prepared foods. Top food items include Small Bone and Large Bone (+25 pts each), followed by various cooked and raw meats (+10 to +20 pts). Daily feeding is limited to three times per in-game day, with the day resetting at midnight in-game time.
Abilities
Like all pets in Crimson Desert, the Spotted Dog automatically runs around the battlefield after combat and loots items from enemy corpses. Pets do not fight, attack enemies, or take damage. They function exclusively as automatic loot collectors.
Pets disappear when you mount your horse and reappear when you dismount. Only one pet can be active at a time, with remaining registered pets stored in your inventory's Pets tab.
Equipment
The Spotted Dog can wear Pet Equipment, including one headpiece and one body outfit at a time. Pet armor is purely cosmetic and does not provide combat stats. Pet cosmetics can be purchased from Milou's Shop in Pororin Village or the Demeniss Pet Tailor in the southeast corner of Demeniss.
Tips
Dogs are generally faster to tame than cats. With their favorite food, many dogs can reach 100 Trust within a single in-game day.
Petting resets daily at midnight in-game time. Plan your visits accordingly to maximize daily Trust gains.
Dogs looting ability works automatically after combat. There is no need to command or direct your pet to pick up items.
You can register up to 30 pets total. Completing the full roster unlocks the Natural Collector trophy.
Confirmed Spawn Location
The Spotted Dog (a dalmatian-pattern variant) appears at a cabin in Hernand, on the mainstreet approach just off the nearest fast travel marker. The Spotted Dog is one of the rotating breeds from this shared spawn pool.
The cabin also spawns the Husky and the Greyhound. Because the pool is shared, only one of the three breeds is usually present at a time, and the specific coat variant is randomized on each visit.
Use the fast travel reroll trick at this cabin to cycle through new dog spawns. Open the Fast Travel map, jump to any other waypoint, and travel back. The spawn refreshes each time, so a few quick round trips is typically enough to roll the Spotted Dog specifically and, if desired, the exact spot pattern you want.
Taming Foods
The Spotted Dog follows the standard canine food preferences. Bird Meat is the fastest option, granting 35 trust per feed. Stocking a single stack from any town butcher is usually enough to close a tame in one in-game day, provided the feeding limit has not already been spent on the same pet earlier.
Supplement with Small Bone and steady petting once the feeding cap is hit. Dropping a Small Bone near the Spotted Dog lets it eat between pet interactions, and petting continues to add trust up to its own daily limit. The Pet Taming Guide has the complete trust-per-food table for reference.
Equip the Companionship III abyss core in an Abyss Core slot to add +3 trust to every feed and every pet. The bonus stacks cleanly with Bird Meat and Small Bone, shaving additional interactions off the tame. For the broader taming framework, see the Companion Affection Guide, the Companions overview, and the Companion Trust article.
