Hernand in Chaos
Hernand in Chaos is the second quest group in Chapter 2: Golden Greed. It contains eight quests spanning the City of Hernand and the surrounding countryside. Bandits have been terrorizing farmers and merchants across the region, and Kliff steps in to investigate. The quest group begins with a duel against Matthias and culminates in a multi-quest investigation where Kliff uncovers the connection between the bandit activity and the Goldleaf Merchant Guild.

For Honor
Kliff encounters a group of soldiers in Hernand Square who are badmouthing the Greymanes. Their leader, Matthias, challenges Kliff to a duel. This is a one-on-one boss fight that tests your melee combat skills.
Walkthrough
Approach the group - Head to Hernand Square and interact with the soldiers discussing the Greymanes.
Duel Matthias - This is a proper one-on-one boss fight. Matthias uses heavy sword swings and can block your light attacks. Watch for his wind-up animations and dodge to the side before counter-attacking. You can learn the Pump Kick technique by observing him during the battle through the Watch and Learn system.
Matthias Boss Strategy
Matthias telegraphs his heavy swings with a visible wind-up. Dodge sideways, not backwards, to create an opening for a counter-attack.
When the Watch and Learn prompt appears for Pump Kick, pay attention. This combat technique is useful for pushing enemies off ledges and breaking stagger.
Use heavy attacks (R2/RT) after a successful dodge to deal significant damage. Light attack chains are less effective against his guard.
Awestruck
After defeating Matthias, Kliff draws the attention of Barden Middler, the Marshal of Hernand. He approaches Kliff about joining the peacekeeping forces. This is primarily a dialogue quest that introduces key political characters.
Walkthrough
Speak with Barden Middler - After the duel, Barden approaches automatically. He attempts to recruit Kliff into the peacekeeping forces.
Meet Marquis Serkis - The conversation introduces Marquis Serkis, a political figure who plays a role in later chapters.
Shadow Cast Over the River
Bandits have occupied Springtide Mill and are blocking a vital trade route. Kliff must clear them out. This quest introduces the Liberation system, which tracks the percentage of hostile forces remaining in an area.
Walkthrough
Travel to Springtide Mill - Follow the quest marker east from Hernand. The mill is located along the river.
Defeat the bandits - Clear the bandits occupying the mill and the nearby bridge. A hostile force percentage appears on screen, tracking your progress. Eliminate all enemies to liberate the area.
The liberation system appears in several later areas. Reducing the hostile force percentage to zero frees an area and may unlock merchants or quest givers who were previously inaccessible.
Where Misery Gathers
After liberating Springtide Mill, Kliff finds a notice board with four requests from local villagers. Each request leads to a separate investigation quest that can be completed in any order.
Walkthrough
Go to the notice board - After defeating the enemies at Springtide Mill, approach the notice board on the right side of the area.
Check all four posters - Pick up each flyer with Square/X, then examine it with L1/LB. The four posters are:

Trial After Trial
Bremer, a farmer at Hernand Farmhouse, reports his cattle have been stolen. Kliff must investigate the theft, which leads to a bandit camp. This quest heavily uses the Visione memory system to uncover clues.
Walkthrough
Find Bremer at Hernand Farmhouse - Travel to Hernand Farmhouse. Bremer is available during morning hours. If it is nighttime, press the Start prompt on the right side of the screen to advance time.
Speak with the herbalist witness - An herbalist nearby saw something suspicious. Talk to her and follow her directions toward a bandit camp.
Clear the bandit camp - Defeat the bandits occupying the camp where Bremer's cattle are being held.
Use the Lantern to reveal memories - Equip the Lantern from the radial menu. Shine it near the brown tent to reveal blue memory fragments.
Activate Visione - Equip the Visione Helmet to view the full memory sequence, revealing what happened to the stolen cattle.
Report back to Bremer - Return to Hernand Farmhouse and share your findings with Bremer.
The Man Trapped in the Mire
Ibano at Capra Pasture has had his goat horns stolen by bandits who are seeking light-radiating rocks in the region. Kliff investigates the theft and discovers a deeper conspiracy.
Walkthrough
Find Ibano at Capra Pasture - Travel to Capra Pasture and speak with Ibano about the horn theft.
Track and defeat the horn thief - Follow the trail to a bandit hideout. Defeat the enemies guarding the stolen goods.
Use the Lantern on the boxes - After clearing the bandits, illuminate the boxes with your Lantern to uncover memory fragments.
Activate Visione - Equip the Visione Helmet to view the complete memory and understand the thieves' true motives.
Return to Ibano - Report your findings about the bandits seeking light-radiating rocks.
Missing Companion
A boy named Willian at Bloomwood Ranch has lost his sheep, Wooly. The investigation leads across the river to a bandit camp. During this quest, Kliff can learn the Dropkick technique through the Watch and Learn system.
Walkthrough
Speak with Willian - Find the distressed child at Bloomwood Ranch and learn about his missing sheep.
Interview the men in the nearby woods - Talk to the men in the area surrounding the ranch to gather clues about Wooly's whereabouts.
Raid the bandit camp across the river - Cross the river and assault the bandit camp. Defeat all enemies guarding the area.
Retrieve the sheep - You will find a sheep at the camp, but be aware that it may not be the target animal. Continue investigating until you locate Wooly.
Return Wooly to Willian - Bring the correct sheep back to the ranch to complete the quest.
Watch for the Dropkick technique prompt during combat at the bandit camp. Observing and learning this move adds it to your permanent combat repertoire.
Secrets Hidden in the Dark
The final investigation quest leads Kliff to a suspicious cave near Bloomwood Ranch. A self-proclaimed Greymane named Boris is involved, and the investigation reveals the connection between the bandit activity and Kailock of the Goldleaf Merchant Guild.
Walkthrough
Find Boris at Bloomwood Ranch - Locate Boris, a drunkard who claims to be a Greymane, near Bloomwood Ranch.
Follow Boris on horseback - Summon your horse and follow Boris. He leads you toward Unicorn Cliff and a cave entrance.
Defeat the bandits near the cave - Clear the enemies guarding the suspicious cave entrance.
Investigate the cave - Enter the cave and use the Lantern to find blue memory traces. The memory titled "Lair of the Animal Thieves" reveals what has been happening.
Activate Visione - Equip the Visione Helmet to view the full memory. Play it through the Options menu to understand the situation completely.
Exit and speak with the guards - Leave the cave and head northeast to the marked location. Interact with the guards to conclude the investigation.

Tips
The four investigation quests (Trial After Trial, The Man Trapped in the Mire, Missing Companion, Secrets Hidden in the Dark) can be completed in any order after reading all four posters.
Trial After Trial requires morning hours at Hernand Farmhouse. If it is nighttime, use the time advancement option from the right side of the screen.
Always carry a Lantern and the Visione Helmet during this quest group. Both are needed for every investigation quest.
The Pump Kick learned from the Matthias duel is very effective against enemies near ledges. Use it to push bandits off elevated positions during the later investigation fights.
Secrets Hidden in the Dark is the most important quest narratively. It reveals the involvement of the Goldleaf Merchant Guild and Kailock, which directly sets up The End of Greed quest group.
The liberation system at Springtide Mill is the first of several area liberations in the game. Reducing the hostile force percentage to zero opens up new merchants and resources in the area.
