Overview
The Man Trapped in the Mire is one of four investigation quests in Chapter 2: Golden Greed, unlocked by reading the "Horn Thief" poster during Where Misery Gathers. A rancher named Ibano at Capra Pasture is furious because someone has been cutting the horns off his goats. Kliff calms Ibano down, tracks the thieves to a riverside camp east of Hernand Farmhouse, reads a memory fragment revealing their motive, and recovers a stolen item called the Mysterious Elixir.
This quest, along with Trial After Trial, Missing Companion, and Secrets Hidden in the Dark, must be completed before The Dark Veil becomes available. All four can be tackled in any order.

Walkthrough
Speak with the Enraged Man
Travel to the marker at Capra Pasture, southwest of the City of Hernand. You will find Ibano surrounded by friends who are accusing him of cutting his own goats' horns. He is visibly furious and denying everything. Kliff steps in to calm the situation and learns the full story: someone has been sneaking onto Ibano's land and cutting the horns off his goats, leaving the animals wounded and the rancher deeply frustrated.
Track Down the Thieves
Follow the updated quest marker east toward the river, near the Hernand Farmhouse area. The path leads to a small bandit camp along the riverbank. Three thieves are stationed here. They are not heavily armed and go down quickly with basic sword combos. Approach cautiously if you want to handle them one at a time, or rush in since the fight is manageable even if all three engage you simultaneously.
Read the Memory Fragment
After clearing the camp, equip your lantern and Visione helmet. Locate the blue ghost apparitions among the stolen goods at the camp and read the memory titled "Hornless Goat." The memory reveals that the thieves were cutting the goat horns because they mistakenly believed the horns were valuable trade goods. They had heard a rumor about horn prices going up and decided to cash in through theft rather than honest purchase. Not the brightest criminals.
Find the Stolen Item
Look around the camp for a rock pile containing a Mysterious Elixir. This is the stolen item you need to recover. There is also a Palmar Pill nearby on the ground, so grab that while you are here. Palmar Pills are solid healing consumables that are always worth picking up.
Return to Ibano
Ibano has relocated to Muckroot Ranch by the time you need to return the item. Head to the ranch, find him, and hand over the Mysterious Elixir. The conversation resolves his anger and completes the quest. Ibano is relieved to have the elixir back and thanks Kliff for his help.

Tips
This is one of the simpler investigation quests. The fight involves only three bandits, and the memory fragment location is right in the middle of the camp.
Ibano moves to Muckroot Ranch after the initial conversation at Capra Pasture. If you cannot find him when returning, check the ranch rather than the pasture.
Completing this quest is required alongside Trial After Trial, Missing Companion, and Secrets Hidden in the Dark to unlock The Dark Veil.
The camp has additional loot beyond the quest items. Check barrels and crates before leaving.
