Fix 2 red wikilink(s): update broken href slugs to correct article slugs

The Greyhound is a dog pet in Crimson Desert. It is found in regions across Pywel, excluding the arid Crimson Desert biome. Like all pets, the Greyhound is obtained by raising its trust to 100 through petting and feeding. Once registered, the Greyhound follows Kliff on adventures and automatically collects loot dropped by defeated enemies and resources from the environment.
Greyhounds are lean, slender dogs recognized by their aerodynamic build and long legs. They are a rarer breed compared to common dogs like the Beagle and Boarhound, and players may need to search more thoroughly through settlements to find one. Community reports indicate Greyhounds have been spotted near the Hernand Jail area, among other locations.
What makes the Greyhound particularly notable is its sheer number of coat variants. With 12 distinct appearances, the Greyhound has more visual variety than any other pet breed in the game. Coat colors range from light tan and cream to dark brown and brindle patterns, giving collectors plenty of reason to seek out multiple Greyhounds across different settlements.

The Greyhound has 12 distinct coat variants, giving it the highest visual variety of any single pet breed in Crimson Desert. Each variant features a different combination of fur color and pattern. The specific variant you encounter is determined by the individual stray dog's spawn, so finding all 12 requires visiting multiple settlements across different regions. Below is a gallery showing every known Greyhound coat variation.
Coat colors range from pale cream and sandy tan to deep chocolate brown and grey-brindle. Some variants have solid coats while others show two-toned patterns with lighter underbellies. The variant is fixed at the time of encounter; once registered, a Greyhound keeps its appearance permanently.
Greyhounds can be found in most regions of Pywel, though they appear less frequently than more common breeds like the Beagle or Boarhound. They inhabit the same general areas as other stray dogs: settlements, towns, roads, and encampments where humans live. The Greyhound does not spawn in the Crimson Desert biome.
Hernand Jail: A brown and white Greyhound has been confirmed near the guards at the Hernand Jail area. This is the most commonly reported Greyhound spawn point in the community.
City of Hernand: The broader Hernand region has multiple stray dog spawns, including in the town square, near the tavern, around the blacksmith, and along nearby roads. Greyhounds have been spotted among these spawn pools.
Greyhounds may appear in other settlements across the continent. Due to their rarer status, players often need to check multiple towns before encountering one.
Dog spawns rotate based on the time of day and zone reloading. If a Greyhound is not present at a known spawn point, try the following:
Leave the area and return at a different in-game hour. Animals cycle between spawn points throughout the day and night.
Fast travel to another location and back. This often forces animals to respawn in their usual area.
Rest at a campfire or cooking pot to skip forward 12 hours, then revisit the settlement.
Use a lantern to highlight nearby animals. Hovering the light over creatures triggers the interaction prompt, which is helpful when searching at night or in dimly lit areas.
Taming a Greyhound follows the standard dog pet taming process. You must build the stray's trust to 100 through a combination of petting and feeding. Both actions have per-day caps tied to the in-game clock, which resets at midnight. The trust meter appears in the top-left corner of the screen whenever you interact with the stray.
Petting grants +5 trust per interaction. You can pet a dog up to 5 times per in-game day, for a maximum of +25 trust from petting alone each day. Petting is free and requires no items. To pet the Greyhound, approach it and hold the interaction button (Square on PlayStation, E on PC).
Feeding is the fastest way to build trust. You can feed a stray up to 3 times per in-game day. To feed the Greyhound, open your inventory, select a food item, and discard it on the ground near the dog. The Greyhound will walk over and eat the food if it is hungry. The trust gained per feeding depends on the food offered, with Fine Meat being the clear favorite.
Once the trust meter reaches 100, interact with the dog and hold the button to select the "Take In" prompt. The Greyhound is then permanently registered as your pet and appears in your inventory under the Pets tab. For a full breakdown of trust values, feeding costs, and advanced taming strategies, see the main Pet Taming Guide.
The Greyhound accepts a wide range of food items for trust building. The table below lists the key trust items organized by the amount of trust they grant per feeding. Fine Meat is the Greyhound's favorite food and provides the highest trust bonus. You can feed the Greyhound up to 3 times per in-game day.
Item | Trust | Notes |
|---|---|---|
+35 | Favorite food. Best trust-per-feed ratio. | |
+25 | Dropped by certain animals and enemies. | |
+25 | Dropped by larger creatures. | |
Field Iron Griddle dishes | +20 | Cooked meals prepared at a Field Iron Griddle. |
Field Cooking Pot dishes | +20 | Cooked meals prepared at a Field Cooking Pot. |
+10 | Basic raw meat. Common drop. | |
+10 | Raw bird meat from fowl. | |
Fruit | +10 | Any raw fruit item. |
Vegetable | +10 | Any raw vegetable item. |
Dairy Product (Tier 1) | +10 | Basic dairy items such as milk or cheese. |
In addition to the items listed above, the Greyhound also accepts a large variety of cooked dishes. Grilled, braised, battered, pickled, salt-roasted, and pan-fried foods all grant trust, though the exact amount varies. As a rule of thumb, any cooked meal prepared at a Field Iron Griddle or Field Cooking Pot provides +20 trust, while simpler grilled items and raw ingredients provide +10. Fine Meat remains the most efficient choice since it provides +35 trust with no cooking required.
The number of in-game days needed to register a Greyhound depends on which food you use. The table below shows the maximum trust you can earn per day with different approaches.
Strategy | Petting | Feeding | Total per Day | Days to 100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Fine Meat + Petting | 5 x 5 = +25 | 3 x 35 = +105 | +130 | 1 day |
Bones + Petting | 5 x 5 = +25 | 3 x 25 = +75 | +100 | 1 day |
Griddle/Pot Food + Petting | 5 x 5 = +25 | 3 x 20 = +60 | +85 | 2 days |
Raw Meat + Petting | 5 x 5 = +25 | 3 x 10 = +30 | +55 | 2 days |
Petting Only | 5 x 5 = +25 | None | +25 | 4 days |
Using Fine Meat is by far the most efficient approach. Three Fine Meat feeds alone provide +105 trust, which already exceeds the 100 threshold without any petting required. If you want to tame a Greyhound on your very first encounter, bring at least three Fine Meat with you. Bones are a solid alternative if Fine Meat is not available, since three bone feeds plus full petting hits exactly 100 trust in a single day. You can rest at campfires and cooking pots to skip forward in 12-hour increments, resetting your daily interaction counters and letting you accumulate trust across multiple "days" in a single real-world sitting.
You can speed up the taming process further by crafting Companionship enchants on Abyss gear. This enchantment increases trust gain speed with pets, meaning each petting and feeding interaction yields more progress. The Solidarity enchant provides a broader bonus, increasing trust gain with all NPCs and animals including pets. If you plan to collect multiple Greyhound variants (or work toward the full 30-pet collection), investing in these enchants saves considerable time.
The Greyhound's primary function is automatic looting. Once registered, the Greyhound follows you during exploration and combat. After enemies are defeated, the dog sprints around the battlefield collecting all dropped items, including materials, equipment, and resources. This saves a significant amount of time during extended fights and dungeon runs. The auto-loot function triggers once the area is clear of hostile enemies, so your pet will not collect items while you are still actively fighting.
In addition to enemy drops, the Greyhound picks up resources found in the environment while you explore. When you harvest materials such as herbs, ores, or wood, the dog automatically collects nearby loose items, further reducing manual gathering time.
Pets have no loot filter. The Greyhound will pick up everything it finds, including low-value junk items such as rusted swords and cheap gear. Keep an eye on your inventory and sell off unwanted items regularly at merchants to avoid running out of space.
Your Greyhound follows you at all times during on-foot exploration. It keeps pace with your character and stays nearby even at a jog. When you mount a horse, your active pet temporarily disappears and returns once you dismount. Unsummoned pets wait at Greymane Camp while not active. If your Greyhound does not appear after dismounting, open the Pets tab in your inventory, unsummon it, and resummon it to force it to respawn at your location.
Pets can sustain injuries during combat encounters. An injured Greyhound is unable to run and will move slowly until healed, which significantly slows down both exploration and looting. To heal your pet, you must first clear all enemies from the immediate area, then use Healing Force Palm on the dog to restore it to full mobility. Healing Force Palm is a variant of Force Palm from Kliff's skill tree and unlocks automatically once Force Palm reaches Level 1.
On PlayStation, hold R3 to charge Force Palm, then press L3 to switch to Healing Force Palm. On PC, hold the mouse wheel button, then press Tab. Aim at your injured Greyhound and release to heal it. Always heal your pet as soon as possible after a fight to maintain efficient auto-looting.
The Greyhound can be dressed in cosmetic Pet Armor including helmets and outfits. Pet equipment is purely cosmetic and does not affect gameplay stats or defensive capabilities. To equip cosmetics, open the inventory menu, switch to the Pets tab, select the item, and choose "Equip."
The following equipment pieces are available for the Greyhound:
Item | Slot | Description |
|---|---|---|
Pet Outfit | A brightly colored rescue vest, giving your Greyhound a working-dog look. | |
Pet Helm | A small metal helmet with a visor, styled after medieval plate armor. | |
Pet Outfit | Full body plate armor for your Greyhound, matching the Plate Helm. | |
Pet Helm | A soft fabric cap, offering a more casual cosmetic option. | |
Pet Outfit | A lightweight cloth outfit that pairs with the Cloth Hat. |
Pet cosmetics can be purchased from two tailor shops that specialize in pet clothing.
Shop | Location | Access Requirement |
|---|---|---|
Milou's Tailor Shop | Complete The Unreachable Village and Authorised Access quests | |
Pets-Tailor's Shop | Reach Demeniss region |
Milou's Tailor Shop in Pororin Forest Village carries the larger inventory, including hats, outfits, armor costumes, and musketeer attire. To unlock access to the village, you must attempt to enter the settlement three times, which triggers The Unreachable Village quest chain. The Demeniss tailor is accessible once you reach that region and carries a smaller selection of items.
All dog breeds in Crimson Desert share the same core abilities (following and auto-looting) and use the same trust mechanics, so the differences between breeds are primarily cosmetic and geographical. The Greyhound stands out due to its 12 variants, which is more than any other single breed. The table below compares the Greyhound with other available dog breeds.
Breed | Size | Variants | Availability | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Greyhound | Medium-Large | 12 | All regions except Crimson Desert | Most variants of any breed. Lean, slender build. |
Small-Medium | 6 | All regions | Common breed, easy to find across settlements. | |
Large | 10 | Across the continent | Largest dog breed in Pywel. | |
Medium | 4 | All regions | Loyal guard dog with wide availability. | |
Medium-Large | 7 | Everywhere except Pailune | Elegant, slender build. Strong hunting instincts. | |
Medium | 8 | Southern settlements | Muscular build with drooping ears. | |
Medium | 9 | Southern regions | Similar to Floppy-Eared but with erect, pointed ears. | |
Medium-Large | 2 | Cold regions (Pailune) | Thick double coat suited for snowy terrain. | |
Large | 1 | Various regions | Herding dog with a distinctive silhouette. |
Since all breeds share the same gameplay functionality, choosing a pet comes down to personal preference in appearance and which breed you happen to encounter first. The Greyhound's lean, athletic build and its 12 coat variants make it particularly appealing for players who enjoy collecting different appearances.
You can register up to 30 pets total, though only one can be actively summoned at a time. All registered companions are managed through the Pets tab in the inventory menu. From this screen you can summon, swap, equip cosmetics, or release a pet. Releasing a pet ("Untie") is permanent and cannot be undone.
Collecting all 30 unique pets across Pywel completes a Life Challenge and earns the Natural Collector trophy. With 12 variants, the Greyhound alone could fill a significant portion of your pet roster. However, each registered pet counts as one toward the 30-pet cap regardless of breed, so collectors aiming for the trophy should prioritize registering different breeds rather than multiple Greyhound variants.
Bring Fine Meat on every outing. Stock up from the Butchery in Hernand before visiting settlements. Three Fine Meat feeds (+105 trust) are enough to register a Greyhound on the spot without any petting needed.
Bones are a strong alternative. If you cannot find Fine Meat, Small Bones and Large Bones grant +25 trust per feed. Three bone feeds plus full petting hits exactly 100 trust in a single day.
Isolate the stray before feeding. Guards and other nearby animals will try to eat the food you drop. Lure the Greyhound to an isolated spot, or unsummon your current pet first, before discarding food on the ground.
Check Hernand Jail first. This is the most reliably reported Greyhound spawn location. Look for a brown and white Greyhound near the guards.
Check different times of day. If a Greyhound is not visible in a settlement, leave and return at a different in-game hour. Animals cycle between spawn points throughout the day and night.
Fast travel to reset spawns. If a stray does not appear, fast travel to another location and back. This often forces animals to respawn in their usual area.
Heal injuries immediately. An injured Greyhound that cannot run will slow down your entire exploration loop. Use Healing Force Palm as soon as combat ends.
Sell junk regularly. Your Greyhound picks up everything during auto-loot, including low-value items. Visit merchants frequently to clear out your inventory.
Invest in Companionship enchants. If you plan to collect multiple Greyhound variants or work toward the 30-pet Natural Collector trophy, Companionship enchants on Abyss gear increase trust gain speed and save significant time.
