The Slim Cat is a tameable feline companion in Crimson Desert, distinguished by its lean, slender build. Slim Cats belong to the Cat family found across the continent of Pywel. Players can tame a Slim Cat through the game's pet taming system by building trust to 100, after which the cat can be permanently registered as a pet. Once registered, the Slim Cat follows the player when summoned and automatically collects loot drops, crafting materials, and harvested resources.
Slim Cats come in seven different coat color variations, ranging from solid black and white to tricolor and tabby patterns. All variations share the same stats and abilities; the difference is purely cosmetic. Like all cat breeds in Crimson Desert, Slim Cats must be picked up and carried before the player can pet them, unlike dogs which can be petted directly.

Slim Cats come in seven distinct coat color variations. Each time the game spawns a cat at a given location, it randomly selects one of these appearances. All variants are functionally identical, so the choice is entirely cosmetic. If you want a specific color, simply leave the area and return until the desired variant spawns.

Taming a Slim Cat follows the same trust system used for all pets in Crimson Desert. You need to raise the cat's trust from 0 to 100 through a combination of petting and feeding. Because of daily caps on both actions, the process takes a minimum of two in-game days.
Locate a Slim Cat. Slim Cats can be found roaming in various settlements and natural areas across Pywel. If no Slim Cat is present at a spawn point, walk away until the area is out of render distance, then return. The game will re-roll the animal spawns and a Slim Cat may appear.
Pick up the cat. Approach the Slim Cat and hold the interaction button to pick it up. Unlike dogs, cats in Crimson Desert must be carried before you can interact with them further.
Pet it five times (Day 1). While holding the cat, press the pet button five times. Each pet grants +5 trust, giving you +25 trust total. This is the daily petting cap.
Feed it Pond Loach or other food (Day 1). Open your inventory and discard food items one at a time near the cat. Pond Loach is the favorite food and grants +35 trust per piece, so a single Pond Loach brings your total from 25 to 60 trust on Day 1. Alternatively, you can feed three items worth +10 trust each (such as Dried Fish or Bird Meat) to reach 55.
Wait for the daily reset. Once you hit the daily cap, you must wait until midnight (the start of a new in-game day) to continue. Pick up and hold the cat so it does not wander off or despawn while you wait.
Pet five more times (Day 2). After midnight, pet the cat five times for another +25 trust.
Feed until 100 trust (Day 2). Feed one or two more food items to push trust to 100. With Pond Loach on Day 1, you only need to feed a single +10 item on Day 2 (after petting) to push past 100.
Register the cat. At 100 trust, a new interaction prompt appears. Hold the button and select "Take In" to permanently register the Slim Cat as your pet. It will be added to your pet roster under the Pets tab in your inventory.
The Slim Cat accepts a wide variety of food items to build trust. The favorite food is Pond Loach, which grants the highest non-legendary trust gain at +35 per piece. Items are grouped by category below, with the trust value each category provides.
Item | Trust | Notes |
|---|---|---|
+35 | Favorite food; highest trust gain from a common item |
Legendary Fish are rare catches that grant +100 trust in a single feeding. While extremely efficient, they are difficult to obtain and generally not worth using solely for pet taming.

Higher-quality versions of these recipes (Hearty, Satisfying, and Filling variants) also grant +20 trust each. The trust value does not increase with recipe quality.
Recipes cooked in the Field Cooking Pot also grant +20 trust. These include soups, porridges, and stews.

Raw food items provide +10 trust each. While less efficient per feeding than cooked food, these items are readily available without needing a cooking station. Each category includes many individual items.
Category | Trust | Example Items |
|---|---|---|
+10 | Dried Fish | |
Fish (raw) | +10 | Pond Loach, Trout, Carp, Salmon, Catfish, Perch, Bass, and many more |
+10 | Bird Meat, Lean Bird Meat | |
Fruit | +10 | Apple, Grape, Orange, Peach, Tomato, Blueberry, Strawberry, Pear, and more |
Dairy Products | +10 |
Slim Cats can wear cosmetic pet equipment that changes their appearance. Pet armor does not provide any stat bonuses or gameplay advantages; it is purely visual. Equipment is available for purchase at Tailor Shops throughout Pywel. To equip gear, open your inventory, switch to the Pets tab, select the desired item, and choose Equip.
Slot | Description | |

Pet Helm | A sturdy metal helm designed for cats, giving a knightly appearance | |

Once registered, the Slim Cat provides several passive benefits while summoned. All pet breeds in Crimson Desert share the same core abilities, so the Slim Cat functions identically to other cats and dogs in terms of gameplay utility.
Ability | Description |
|---|---|
Auto-Loot (Combat) | The Slim Cat automatically runs across the battlefield and picks up loot dropped by defeated enemies, including equipment, materials, and consumables. |
Resource Pickup (Harvesting) | When the player harvests ores, chops trees, or gathers herbs, the Slim Cat collects the dropped resources automatically. This saves time during gathering runs. |
Destructible Object Pickup | The Slim Cat also gathers items from destructible objects and environmental containers the player breaks during exploration. |
Exploration Companion | The Slim Cat follows the player across all regions of Pywel while summoned, staying close during travel. |
Pets are invulnerable during combat. Enemies cannot target or damage your summoned Slim Cat, so there is no risk of losing it in a fight. You can register up to 30 pets total, but only one pet can be actively summoned at any time.
Pond Loach is the most efficient common food for taming a Slim Cat. A single Pond Loach grants +35 trust, which means you can potentially reach 100 trust faster than with +10 items. Stock up before you start.
Craft Companionship enchants on Abyss gear to increase trust gain speed with pets. The Solidarity enchant increases trust gain with all NPCs and animals, making the taming process even faster.
Always pick up and hold the cat when you are not actively feeding it. Cats can wander away or despawn if left unattended for too long. Carrying the cat inside a building is a reliable way to prevent this.
Drop food items one at a time from your inventory. If you discard multiple items at once, the cat may only eat one while nearby NPCs or stray animals grab the rest.
Cooked food from the Field Iron Griddle or Field Cooking Pot gives +20 trust per item, double what raw ingredients provide. If you have access to a cooking station, preparing food before taming is more efficient.
Slim Cats are found across most of Pywel, but they do not appear in The Crimson Desert region. If you are searching for one early in the game, check settlements and villages in regions you have already unlocked.
All seven coat variations are cosmetic. If you want a specific color, leave the area and return until the variant you prefer spawns. Stats and abilities are identical across all variants.
Keep in mind that pets pick up everything without any loot filter. Your inventory can fill up quickly with low-value items, so manage it regularly when exploring with a summoned pet.
