The Kuku Cooler is the entry-level food storage container introduced in Patch 1.04.00 alongside the broader specialized storage rework. It holds 40 slots of food and ingredients, is awarded by a new quest, and exposes its contents directly to the cooking system so that a player can prepare meals at a nearby cooking station without moving ingredients into the backpack first.
Property | Value |
|---|---|
Capacity | 40 slots |
Source | New quest reward (blueprint) |
Patch added | |
Cook from storage | Yes |
Upgrade | Larger capacity available via the Enhanced Kuku Cooler, crafted from the upgraded blueprint. |

The cooler accepts anything categorized as Food in the new tab system, which includes raw ingredients, prepared dishes, baked goods, drinks, and ration items. The storage is shared across all three playable characters, so a meal prepared on Kliff can be picked up and consumed on Damiane or Oongka without reshuffling.
Raw vegetables, meats, fish, and grains.
Cooked dishes and consumables tagged as Food.
Drinks, including buff drinks and tavern stock.
Recipe-required ingredients used by the cooking system.
The defining feature of the cooler is that ingredients inside it are pulled into recipes the same way materials in the Sturdy Gatherables Chest feed crafting. Standing at a cooking station near the cooler is enough; the recipe screen lists ingredients from both the backpack and the cooler, and the consumption animation pulls from whichever container has the stack.
The cooler is awarded as part of a new Patch 1.04.00 quest line that walks the player through a basic camp-improvement objective and ends with a blueprint reward. The blueprint is auto-applied to the player's craftable list once the quest finishes, so no manual unlock step is required. The follow-up Enhanced Kuku Cooler is unlocked from the same craftable tree and pushes capacity from 40 to 330 slots.
Container | Role | |
|---|---|---|
Direct upgrade. Same cook-from-storage behavior with 330 slots instead of 40. | ||
Crafting materials counterpart with 1,000-slot capacity. | ||
Quest items and recipes; not a food container despite holding recipe books. | ||
Outfit storage; up to 1,000 slots across 10 wardrobes. |
Veteran players describe the Kuku Cooler as the food-side mirror of the Sturdy Gatherables Chest. The defining behavior is that ingredients inside the cooler are exposed to the cooking system the same way materials in the gatherables chest are exposed to crafting: standing at a cooking station near the cooler is enough, and recipes pull from whichever container holds the stack.
Refrigerator-style cooking. Players accustomed to manually transferring ingredients into and out of the backpack before each cook session can drop that step entirely. Cooking from the cooler functions like opening a refrigerator: ingredient list on top, recipe options on the side, single confirmation to cook.
Shared across all three characters. Storage is shared across Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka. A meal prepared on one character can be picked up and consumed on another without reshuffling, which is essential during chapters that swap playable characters.
40 slots is enough for a starter pantry. Players running active-meal ingredients only do not need to upgrade right away. The base cooler covers a working pantry of raw vegetables, meats, fish, grains, and a handful of prepared dishes.
Upgrade path is obvious. Once a cooking loop starts to involve long-shelf rations, buff stacks, or large ingredient farms, the Enhanced Kuku Cooler jumps capacity to 330 slots. Existing food in the base cooler can be retrieved and re-stored in the enhanced version without loss.
Placement happens through Housing and Farming mode at the player house. The cooler occupies one floor tile and uses the same housing-mode placement preview as other furniture containers.
