Overview
The Horseshoe-Blade Greataxe is a two-handed weapon in Crimson Desert built for heavy melee combat. Its name comes from the distinctive curved blade shaped like a horseshoe, which creates a wider cutting edge than a standard axe head. The weapon is wielded exclusively by Oongka and provides solid attack power at 16, matching other mid-tier two-handed options like the Bonepit Warhammer and Thalwynd Warhammer.

The curved blade design is more than aesthetic. The horseshoe shape extends the weapon's contact surface during horizontal sweeps, catching enemies at the edges of the swing arc who would otherwise be clipped by a narrower blade. This gives the Horseshoe-Blade a slight edge in area coverage during crowd control scenarios compared to straight-edged greataxes.

How to Obtain
There are two ways to acquire the Horseshoe-Blade Greataxe:
Found as loot: The weapon can be picked up from a weapon rack in the area before the Ludvig boss fight at Pailune Castle. This makes it available during the story without any crafting investment.
Crafted at a Blacksmith: The weapon can also be crafted at a Blacksmith using the following materials:
Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
Iron Ore | 10 |
Copper Ore | 3 |
Crafting requires the appropriate weapon recipe book, which can be found through exploration of Pywel or purchased from merchants.
Combat Notes
At 16 attack power with no secondary stats, the Horseshoe-Blade Greataxe is a straightforward damage option. It does not offer the critical hit chance of the Pailunese Logging Axe or the attack speed of the Fan-Blade Greataxe, but its higher base damage provides more reliable per-hit output without depending on procs or speed advantages.
The greataxe moveset features wide sweeping arcs, overhead chops, and ground-slam attacks. The Horseshoe-Blade's curved edge profile adds marginally more horizontal coverage during sweeping attacks. Against grouped enemies, this coverage translates to more consistent multi-hit connections on targets at the edge of the swing.
The weapon pairs naturally with Oongka's area-of-effect abilities. Abilities like Giant Swing and Quaking Fury scale with the equipped weapon's attack power, so the 16 base attack provides a solid foundation for ability-based damage rotations.
Refinement
The Horseshoe-Blade Greataxe supports 10 refinement levels. Refining at a Blacksmith increases the base attack value with each tier. Materials for refinement come from mining nodes and other gathering activities across the open world.
Tips
If you find this weapon on the rack before the Ludvig fight, compare it to whatever greataxe you currently have equipped. At 16 attack power, it may be a direct upgrade.
Since the weapon has no built-in secondary stats, you have full flexibility to customize it with Abyss Cores that match your preferred playstyle, whether that is crit, speed, or raw damage.
The curved blade shape makes horizontal sweeps slightly wider than other greataxes. Use sweep attacks against groups clustered in a line to maximize the coverage advantage.
