Overview
The Dragon's Stone Chamber is a hidden ancient ruins puzzle location in Crimson Desert, situated within the Hernand Highlands region. The chamber is carved into the side of a massive ravine just north of the Hernand Highlands Cavern, below Thinker's Meadow and close to the Greymane Camp on Howling Hill. Inside, players must solve a rotating-dial puzzle by matching three circular stone switches to patterns found on outdoor murals scattered across the Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace. Successfully completing the puzzle grants an Abyss Cresset fast travel point, a skill point, and the Memories of Abundance consumable, which reveals hidden locations throughout Hernand.

The chamber is one of two Mysterious Energy zones located around the Howling Hill Camp area. It becomes accessible during Chapter 3 once the player has established the Greymane Camp. While the puzzle can be attempted as soon as you find the entrance, gathering the mural clues from nearby cliff faces will make the solution much easier to identify.
Location
The Dragon's Stone Chamber sits inside a deep ravine in the Hernand Highlands, just south of Greymane Camp on Howling Hill. The ravine is visible on the map as a large gap in the terrain below the Nas River, marked by a question mark icon. Players can reach the ravine by heading south from the camp until they spot the opening in the ground.

The ravine has two notable features. On the south side, a small cave is packed with diamond ore deposits that can be mined for valuable materials. On the northern side of the ravine, an enormous dragon-like mural is painted across the rock face. The entrance to the Dragon's Stone Chamber is built directly into the center of this mural, disguised as a stone door.
Players can also approach from the opposite direction by traveling north from the Hernand Highlands Cavern, or by using Kliff's glide ability to descend from the higher ground around Thinker's Meadow.

How to Enter
Reaching the door is only half the challenge. Before the entrance will open, players need to complete a short sequence:
Item | Description |
|---|---|
Locate the mural door. | On the northern cliff face of the ravine, look for the large dragon-like painting. The stone door is set into the center of this mural. |
Clear the vines. | A cluster of dried leaves and vines blocks the door. Use Blinding Flash (the lantern-based sword ability) to burn them away, exposing the stone slab behind them. |
Read the memory. | Point your Lantern at the door to trigger a vision, then equip the Visione Helmet to watch the recorded memory. This step provides lore context about the chamber's origin. |
Push the door open. | Walk directly into the stone slab and keep pushing forward for several seconds. The door will slowly grind open, granting access to the chamber within. |
Puzzle Mechanics
Inside the Dragon's Stone Chamber, a sealed inner door blocks the path to the rewards. In the center of the room is a circular pit containing three rotating stone dials (also called wheels or switches). Each dial has a distinct carved symbol. Players must rotate every dial to its correct orientation before the sealed door will open.
The chamber walls display a painted mural that functions as a rotated topographic map of the surrounding Hernand Highlands region. Three red markers on this map point to outdoor locations where stone clue murals have been carved into cliff faces. These outdoor murals show the correct position for each corresponding dial. The puzzle therefore requires traveling outside the chamber, finding all three clue murals, memorizing or noting their orientations, and returning to set the dials.
Reading the Wall Mural
The mural is rotated roughly 90 degrees compared to the normal in-game map orientation, which can make it difficult to match locations at first glance. A useful reference point is the large circular cluster of buildings visible on the right side of the mural. This cluster corresponds to Halssius' House of Healing, the medical facility located east of Anvil Hill. Once you identify the House of Healing on the mural, the three red markers become easier to place on your world map. All three markers point to cliff faces in the Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace, which sits between the House of Healing and the river running through the area.
Both walls flanking the sealed inner door display an identical version of this carved map, so you can examine either side. The three faint red markings correspond one-to-one with the three dials in the central pit, arranged in the same spatial order. If you mentally overlay the mural onto your world map (accounting for the rotation), the leftmost marker points to the first dial's clue, the center to the second, and the rightmost to the third.

Finding the Clue Murals
The three outdoor clue murals are located along the cliff faces of the Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace, southeast of Hernand City, in the direction of Halssius' House of Healing. Each mural is painted or carved onto an exposed rock surface and is easy to spot once you know the general area. The murals feature bold circular patterns that match the symbols on the dials inside the chamber.
Navigating to the Murals
The fastest way to reach the murals is to travel southeast from Hernand City along the road toward Halssius' House of Healing. Before you reach the House of Healing itself, look north toward the river. The Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace is a long cliff face running roughly east to west on the north side of the river. All three clue murals are painted on this same continuous rock wall, spaced apart but reachable by following the cliff face from one end to the other.
From the House of Healing, head west and slightly north until you reach the base of the cliff. The first mural is on the eastern end of the cliff face. After noting it, walk west (or southwest) along the wall to find the second mural a short distance away. Continue in the same direction to reach the third mural further along. The entire route between all three murals takes roughly two minutes on foot. You do not need to climb or use any traversal abilities to reach them; they are all at ground level on the exposed rock surface.
Mural | Location | Symbol Description |
|---|---|---|
First | Southern cliff face of Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace | Sun and moon imagery |
Second | Northeast along the cliff wall from the first | Horse or animal figure |
Third | Further northeast, continuing along the cliff | Pincer or bracket symbol |
The three murals are spaced along the same cliff wall, so players can visit them in sequence by following the rock face northeast. Each mural clearly shows the symbol in its correct rotational position. Take note of which direction the key features of each symbol are pointing before heading back to the chamber.
Puzzle Solution
The dial alignment must be pixel-perfect; even a slight deviation will prevent the door from opening. Rotate each dial slowly and listen for a distinct clicking sound that indicates correct placement. The three correct orientations are:
Dial | Symbol | Correct Orientation |
|---|---|---|
1 | Sun and Moon | Both the sun and moon symbols must point straight upward |
2 | Horse / Animal Figure | The legs should angle slightly downward to the left |
3 | Pincer / Bracket | The bracket should point to the left, slanted slightly upward |
Once all three dials are set to their correct positions, the sealed inner door opens automatically, granting access to the reward chamber behind it.
The solution is not randomized. Every player sees the same dial orientations regardless of playthrough or save file. If you are having trouble getting a dial to register, try releasing it and grabbing it again. The alignment must be extremely precise, and sometimes the input can stick if you rotate too quickly. A faint audio click confirms each dial is locked in position; if you do not hear the click, the dial is not quite right.

Rewards
Completing the Dragon's Stone Chamber puzzle grants three rewards:
Reward | Description |
|---|---|
Unlocks a fast travel point at the Dragon's Stone Chamber, allowing instant return visits | |
Abyss Artifact (Skill Point) | Grants one Abyss Artifact skill point that can be spent to unlock or upgrade abilities |
A consumable memory item that, when used from the inventory, reveals seven hidden locations and points of interest across the Hernand region on the world map, including nearby caves and exploration sites |
The Memories of Abundance is particularly valuable for players who want to uncover every secret in Hernand. Using it immediately marks caves, hidden paths, and other points of interest on the map, saving significant time that would otherwise be spent scouring the region on foot.

Nearby Diamond Cave
On the southern side of the same ravine that houses the Dragon's Stone Chamber entrance, a small cave contains a rich vein of diamond ore. Players who visit the chamber should make a detour to mine these deposits, as diamonds are a valuable crafting and trading resource. The cave is directly across from the dragon mural, so it is easy to spot while approaching the chamber from either direction.
Connection to the Ancient Ruins System
The Dragon's Stone Chamber is one of several ancient ruins scattered throughout the world of Crimson Desert. Each ruin contains a unique puzzle that rewards an Abyss Cresset and an Abyss Artifact upon completion. The ruins share a common design language: interior murals that encode clues referencing external landmarks, forcing players to explore the surrounding landscape to find answers.
Other ancient ruins puzzles in the Hernand area include the Haunted Hill Ruins, the Drakesfall Gorge Ruins, and the Meandering Hills Ruins. Solving all of the ancient ruins in a region contributes toward the Unravel the Secret of the Ancient Ruins questline and is one of the most efficient ways to accumulate Abyss Artifacts for character progression.
Tips
The wall mural inside the chamber is a rotated version of the in-game map. Compare it to your map carefully to identify the red marker locations; they will not match at first glance because the orientation is different.
Each outdoor clue mural corresponds to one specific dial. If you are unsure which mural matches which dial, the red markers on the interior mural are arranged in the same spatial order as the three dials in the pit.
Rotate the dials slowly. The correct position requires very precise alignment, and overshooting by even a small amount will prevent the door from opening.
If you do not yet have the Lantern and Visione Helmet, you can still physically push the door open. The memory reading step provides lore but is not strictly required to enter the chamber.
Do not forget to mine the diamond cave on the south side of the ravine before leaving the area. The deposits respawn over time, so it is worth revisiting periodically.
After obtaining the Memories of Abundance, use it immediately from your inventory to reveal hidden locations on the Hernand map. If your Kuku Pot is not yet unlocked, the item can be recovered through lost item recovery.
The puzzle solution is consistent across all save files and is not randomized, so you can safely follow a guide without worrying about different answers on your playthrough.
If you have not yet reached Chapter 3 and established the Greymane Camp, the chamber entrance may not be accessible. The puzzle becomes available once Kliff sets up camp on Howling Hill.
You can take screenshots of each outdoor mural with your system's capture function. This saves you from having to memorize three different orientations for the return trip.
Fast travel to the Greymane Camp Abyss Cresset after finding all three murals to cut down on travel time back to the chamber.
Interior Layout
The chamber interior contains three key features:
Dragon Statue: A large stone dragon sculpture mounted on the far wall above a sealed door. This door opens once the puzzle is solved.
Wall Murals: Maps painted on the side walls that serve as a topographic guide to the surrounding area. These murals show a bird's-eye view of Anvil Hill with structures, a river, and mountain ranges marked on them. Three red marks on the maps correspond to real-world locations where dial clue symbols are carved into cliff faces.
Central Pit: A recessed area in the floor containing three rotatable stone dials, each engraved with a unique symbol. These dials form the core of the puzzle.
One important detail is that the mural map inside the chamber is rotated compared to the in-game map. Keep this in mind when trying to match the marked locations to real-world positions on your map.
Finding the Mural Clues
While it is possible to solve the puzzle by trial and error or by already knowing the correct dial positions, the intended approach involves tracking down three symbol engravings carved into cliff faces around Anvil Hill. This area is located southeast of Hernand City, to the west and northwest of the House of Healing. The large building shown on the chamber's wall mural corresponds to the House of Healing, and the three red marks point to nearby cliff walls.
The three clue engravings are found along the southern and southeastern cliff faces of Anvil Hill:
Location | Symbol | |
|---|---|---|
First | Southern cliff face of Anvil Hill, near a stream northwest of the House of Healing. | Depicts the sun and moon. This shows their correct upward orientation. |
Second | Northeast of the first clue, continuing along the cliff wall. | Shows an animal figure in its correct upright position. |
Third | Further northeast from the second clue, along the same cliff line. | Displays a bracket or gear-like symbol with its correct leftward orientation. |
Each cliff engraving shows the exact orientation that the corresponding dial inside the chamber needs to be rotated to. Visiting these locations is optional if you already know the solution, but they provide helpful visual references for first-time solvers.
Dial Solutions
Dial | Symbol | Correct Position |
|---|---|---|
First Dial | Sun and Moon | Rotate until the sun and moon are pointing straight upward, toward the top of the disc. |
Second Dial | Animal Figure | Rotate until the animal figure is upright, with its head at the top and feet pointing downward. |
Third Dial | Bracket / Gear | Rotate until the bracket or gear hand is pointing to the left side of the disc. |
Precision matters. The dial positions must be very precise for the puzzle to register as complete. Even a slight offset from the correct angle will prevent the door from opening. Take your time and make small adjustments until each symbol sits in exactly the right spot. You will hear a click when moving the dials, but this does not necessarily confirm correct placement.
Once all three dials are aligned correctly, the room begins to shake and the sealed door beneath the dragon statue opens automatically. Walk through to claim your rewards from the pillar inside the hidden chamber.
