Dragon Chamber
The Dragon's Stone Chamber is an ancient ruins puzzle located in the Hernand Highlands of Crimson Desert. Players must locate three mural clues on the cliffs of Anvil Hill, then rotate three stone wheels inside the chamber to match the symbols. Completing the puzzle unlocks an Abyss Cresset fast travel point, an Abyss Artifact, and the Memories of Abundance consumable.
Overview
The Dragon's Stone Chamber is an ancient ruins puzzle hidden in the Hernand Highlands, situated on Howling Hill near the Greymane Camp. The chamber contains a dragon statue, three rotatable stone wheels in a central pit, and wall maps that reference external mural locations. Players must travel to the cliffs of Anvil Hill to find three carved symbols, then return to the chamber and rotate each wheel to match its corresponding symbol. Solving the puzzle unseals a locked door and grants access to valuable rewards, including an Abyss Cresset fast travel point, an Abyss Artifact that provides a skill point, and the Memories of Abundance consumable.
The Dragon's Stone Chamber becomes accessible during Chapter 3, after the player has established the Greymane Camp. It is one of the more rewarding environmental puzzles in the Hernand region, and completion does not require any combat. The puzzle can be solved immediately if you already know the correct wheel positions, but visiting the mural clue sites first makes the solution straightforward.
Location and How to Enter
The entrance to the Dragon's Stone Chamber is located in a ravine south of Thinker's Meadow in the Hernand Highlands. On your map, the chamber appears as a question mark icon labeled "Mysterious Energy" southeast of Greymane Camp. To reach it, drop down into the large ravine beside the main road and look for a brightly colored mural etched into the ravine walls.
Follow these steps to enter the chamber:
Head south from Greymane Camp on Howling Hill. You can glide down using Kliff's flight ability or climb into the ravine on foot.
Look for the painted fresco on the rock wall at the base of the ravine. Your Lantern will signal a nearby memory presence when you are close.
Before pushing the door, you may need to burn away the foliage blocking the entrance. Use Blinding Flash (PC: Ctrl + Left Mouse; Controller: RB + LB) to ignite the vines.
Walk up to the door-like wall section and push against it. Keep pushing until it yields and slides open, revealing the chamber interior.
Once inside, you will see the dragon statue at the far end, a sealed door directly ahead, and the three stone wheels arranged in the floor pit at the center of the room. The walls flanking the sealed door display carved maps of the surrounding region with three faint markings indicating where to find the external mural clues.
Understanding the Puzzle
The core mechanic of this puzzle involves three rotating stone wheels, each engraved with a unique pattern. The correct orientation for each wheel is determined by studying three murals painted on cliff faces outside the chamber. The wall maps inside the chamber show the approximate locations of these murals, but there is an important detail: the mural map on the wall is rotated compared to your in-game map. You need to mentally reorient the directions when comparing the wall map to your compass. The large circular cluster of buildings depicted on the wall map corresponds to the Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace area, located southeast of Hernand City on the road toward Halssius's House of Healing.
Each outdoor mural is painted on a cliff face in a specific orientation. The imagery on the murals matches the imagery carved into the three wheels inside the chamber. Your goal is to rotate each wheel until it matches the exact orientation of its corresponding outdoor mural.
Mural Clue Locations
All three external mural clues are located on the southern cliffs of Anvil Hill, in the Anvil Hillside Terrace area. The murals are easy to spot once you are close, as each one features bold circular patterns painted onto the cliff surface.
Clue | Location | Symbol Description |
|---|---|---|
Clue 1 | On the cliffs north of Timberturner Wainwright, on the southern cliff face of Anvil Hill | Sun and moon imagery with a tree. The sun sits at the top and the tree roots extend to the bottom. |
Clue 2 | Northwest of the House of Healing, near the start of the stream along the cliff wall | A bracket or U-shaped design. The open side of the shape faces left. |
Clue 3 | Further northeast along the cliff from Clue 2, continuing along the Anvil Hill cliff face | A tiger or animal figure. The head faces upward and slightly to the left, with feet positioned at the bottom. |
Take note of the exact position and rotation of each symbol as it appears on the cliff. The key detail is not just recognizing the pattern but matching the precise angle at which it is displayed.
Puzzle Solution
Return to the Dragon's Stone Chamber after observing all three murals. Approach the central pit and interact with each of the three stone wheels. Rotate them to match the orientations you observed on the cliff faces:
Wheel | Symbol | Correct Position |
|---|---|---|
Left Wheel (Wheel 1) | Sun, Moon, and Tree | Rotate 90 degrees clockwise until the sun is pointing straight up and the tree roots are at the bottom. |
Center Wheel (Wheel 2) | Bracket / U-Shape | Rotate 180 degrees until the outside line (the open side of the U-shape) faces left, roughly at the 10 o'clock position if the dial were a clock face. |
Right Wheel (Wheel 3) | Tiger / Animal Figure | Rotate 90 degrees counter-clockwise until the animal head is looking slightly down and to the left. The outside swirl should rest at the bottom-left section of the dial. |
Precision matters here. Even small misalignments will prevent the mechanism from activating. If the wheels are in the right general area but the door does not open, try nudging each wheel slightly until the lock engages. Once all three wheels are correctly aligned, the sealed door opens automatically.
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Reach Greymane Camp during Chapter 3 and set up your base.
Head south from the camp to the ravine. Look for the Mysterious Energy question mark icon on your map.
Find the painted fresco at the bottom of the ravine. Burn the foliage with Blinding Flash if necessary, then push the door open.
Inside the chamber, examine the wall maps flanking the sealed door. Note the three marked locations (the faint X symbols) pointing to the Anvil Hill area.
Travel to the Anvil Hillside Terrace, southeast of Hernand City, on the road toward Halssius's House of Healing.
Find and study all three mural clues on the southern cliff faces of Anvil Hill. Pay close attention to the exact rotation and orientation of each symbol.
Return to the Dragon's Stone Chamber and rotate the three wheels to match the murals.
Once the sealed door opens, proceed inside to collect your rewards from the Abyss Cresset area.
Rewards
Solving the Dragon's Stone Chamber puzzle grants the following rewards:
Reward | Type | Effect |
|---|---|---|
Fast Travel Point | Unlocks a permanent fast travel point inside the chamber, providing a convenient teleport destination near Greymane Camp. | |
Skill Point | Grants one additional skill point that can be invested into any skill tree. Also used for certain gear upgrades. | |
Memories of Abundance | Consumable | A key item that, when consumed from the Treasure section of your inventory, reveals seven hidden locations across the Hernand region on your map. |
The Abyss Cresset is particularly useful because it provides a fast travel point close to your player housing at Greymane Camp. The Memories of Abundance is a one-time use item that marks previously hidden points of interest across Pywel on your world map, making it invaluable for completionists who want to uncover every secret in the Hernand region.
Tips
Finding the three outdoor murals before attempting the wheels is optional. If you already know the correct positions, you can solve the puzzle immediately without leaving the chamber.
Remember that the wall map inside the chamber is rotated relative to your in-game map. Do not assume north on the wall map matches north on your compass.
The murals on the cliff faces are bold and colorful, making them easy to spot from a distance once you are in the correct area of Anvil Hill.
If the sealed door does not open after setting all three wheels, double-check each wheel's position. The alignment needs to be precise, so try small adjustments to each wheel.
Use Memories of Abundance early in your exploration of Hernand. Revealing hidden locations on the map lets you plan efficient routes for gathering collectibles and discovering new areas.
The Abyss Cresset inside the chamber doubles as a fast travel point, so you can return here instantly from anywhere on the map after solving the puzzle.
No enemies or combat encounters are involved in this puzzle. It is purely an exploration and observation challenge.
