Customizable Controller Inputs is a planned control and accessibility update announced by Pearl Abyss in the Developer Roadmap April-June 2026 on April 9, 2026. The update will expand the range of configurable keys on keyboard and mouse and add more granular remap options for gamepad input, giving players finer control over how Crimson Desert's complex combat and traversal commands are mapped.
Overview
Crimson Desert ships with a dense control scheme. The combat system layers melee combos, ranged bow attacks, spellcasting, grappling, mount inputs, and dedicated abilities across a relatively small button surface. At launch, remap options let players change some of these bindings but left many core inputs fixed to specific keys and buttons. Community feedback, particularly from keyboard and mouse players, centered on the inability to rebind certain combat and traversal actions without going through external tools.
Pearl Abyss's stated fix is twofold: add customization options for additional controller inputs, and expand the range of keys players are allowed to configure on keyboard and mouse. The goal is to let players reshape the control scheme around their own hardware and habits, especially players using alternative grips, accessibility devices, or unconventional keyboard layouts.
Keyboard and Mouse
On keyboard and mouse, the planned changes expand the number of actions that accept a remap. The launch menu grouped some actions as fixed or paired, which meant users could not, for example, separate a specific combat trigger from its movement counterpart. The update will open more of these bindings individually, so players can assign distinct keys to actions that share a slot today.
This is particularly relevant for the keyboard-heavy combat systems. Abilities tied to keys like Force Palm, Axiom Force, and Nature's Snare all rely on timing and comfortable hand positioning. Players who run split-layout keyboards, ergonomic setups, or non-QWERTY layouts are the biggest beneficiaries: the more keys that accept remap, the more layouts that work as intended without external software.
Controller Input Customization
On gamepad, the planned update targets granularity. At launch, controller remap affected broad button categories rather than individual inputs, so players could swap a pair of buttons but could not, for example, rebind a specific combat shoulder button without affecting a bonded traversal input. The update will increase the number of individual bindings that can be changed, closer to the per-button freedom that keyboard and mouse players expect.
Practical gains include remapping the dodge or parry trigger to a different shoulder button, assigning specific mounted abilities to dedicated buttons, or moving a combat ability off a stick press and onto a shoulder. Players on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam controllers should all see the same expanded options, since the system is game-side rather than hardware-specific.
The update complements the control improvements already shipped in Patch 1.03.00. That patch adjusted the inputs for Damiane's Skystep and Oongka's Vertical Flight, enhanced keyboard and mouse controls for Axiom Force, and smoothed out ability combo input windows. The roadmap update is the follow-up that gives players the ability to personalize those same controls.
Why It Matters
Controller customization is also an accessibility feature. Players using one-handed controllers, adaptive controllers, or simplified layouts depend on granular remap to reach every combat input without awkward stretches or double-button presses. Expanded keyboard remap has the same effect for players with reduced fine motor control, who may prefer moving demanding inputs to easier keys.
Beyond accessibility, the update helps competitive or speedrun players who tune their bindings for specific combat strategies. Every unnecessary key stretch or finger cross costs fractions of a second, and the launch lockout of certain bindings made optimal layouts harder to build. The roadmap update closes that gap.
Release Window
Pearl Abyss placed Customizable Controller Inputs in the April to June 2026 window alongside the Specialized Storage System and other quality-of-life items. The publisher has not named a specific patch number or release date.
