Blackwing Mask
October 29, 2026 at 11:29 AM
Correct acquired Defense and occupied Haste context; add the recorded merchant and recipe without guaranteeing their first unlock.

The Blackwing Mask is a piece of Headgear in Crimson Desert. Classified as plate-type head armor, its acquired snapshot provides 4 Defense alongside a Movement Speed Lv.1 bonus. The earlier Reinforcement gauge of 40/40 and Defense +6 account are separate upgrade observations, not the recorded refinement maximum for this headgear item, whose progression reaches Defense 21 at +10.
The mask is awarded after defeating Crowcaller at the end of the Black and White quest in Chapter 5: Guest Unbidden. The item record also lists vendors and a Crafting recipe, so the story reward is not a proven exclusive source. The Blackwing Mask is part of the Blackwing equipment set, which includes leather body armor, gloves, boots, and a cloak spread across multiple locations in the game world.
The recorded curve starts at Defense 2, has Defense 4 at +2 and reaches Defense 21 at +10. Haste I occupies one socket and lists Movement Speed Lv.1. The pickup guide also shows Defense 4/Movement Speed Lv.1; its unrelated chest-armor/three-slot sentence is inconsistent with the mask-specific record and should not be used as a socket maximum.

The older 4-DEF comparison pairs the mask with Bolton Plate Helm and the 5-DEF displays for Grotevant Plate Helm and Kairos Plate Helm, but those snapshots do not establish equivalent unrefined levels or the complete headgear ranking. Its Movement Speed benefit supports mobility; the claim that no other plate helm offers a similar combination is not established by this small comparison.
Elise at Tar Costume is the named recorded seller. A Smith recipe uses Abyss Cell x20 plus any three eligible Kuku Pot Sealed Items: Gate of Collapse, Ore of Resipiscence, Casket of Illusions, Crown of Shadows or Spire of Defiance, any three total. The first merchant-stock and crafting unlock conditions are not independently established; Crowcaller remains the documented quest route.
The Blackwing Mask is obtained as a quest reward for completing the Black and White main quest in Chapter 5: Guest Unbidden. The quest culminates in a multi-phase boss fight against Crowcaller, a powerful Abyss-corrupted enemy who wields dark crow-themed abilities. Defeating Crowcaller awards the Blackwing Mask along with the Blackwing Leather Armor and the Tauria Curved Sword.
Progress through Chapter 5 until the Black and White quest becomes available.
Follow the quest objectives: read the Unsealed Letter, travel to Witchwood to meet the witch Elowen, then investigate the infiltration of Hernand Castle.
Track the intruder to the Axiom Archive, then gather clues about Crowcaller at Muckroot Ranch.
Chase Crowcaller to the Church of West Demeniss, solve the Pillar of Radiance puzzles, and activate the Spire of Soaring.
Defeat Crowcaller in the final battle. He has three full health bars and becomes increasingly aggressive with each phase. Parrying is essential for creating openings.
After the fight, the Blackwing Mask, Blackwing Leather Armor, and Tauria Curved Sword are awarded automatically as quest rewards.
Stock up on healing items beforehand. Bringing at least 20 Hearty Grilled Meats is recommended, as the three-phase fight can drain your supplies quickly.
Parrying is Crowcaller's biggest weakness. Learn the timing of his attack patterns and counter with quick combos after each successful parry.
The Blinding Flash finisher (from the blue skill tree) is extremely effective. It stuns Crowcaller temporarily and opens a window for extended combos.
When Crowcaller flies into the air, wait for his second midair dodge before rolling. This timing allows you to consistently evade his dive attack.
The Blackwing Mask is part of the Blackwing equipment set, a collection of leather and plate armor pieces themed around the Crowcaller and his faction. The full set consists of five pieces spread across different acquisition methods:
Piece | Slot | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
Defeat Crowcaller (Chapter 5: Black and White) | ||
Defeat Crowcaller (Chapter 5: Black and White) | ||
Hidden chest at Sanctum of Penitence (breakable floor) | ||

Armor sets in Crimson Desert share a visual theme and complementary stat bonuses but do not provide a formal set bonus when multiple pieces are worn together. Each piece is upgraded independently through the Refining System. The Blackwing Leather Armor and Blackwing Leather Boots both offer Lightning Resistance Lv.1, so wearing them alongside the mask provides layered elemental protection in addition to the movement speed synergy.
The following table compares the Blackwing Mask with other notable Headgear pieces in Crimson Desert. Plate helms generally offer the highest defense, while cloth and leather options tend to favor mobility or special effects.
Type | DEF | Bonus | Special | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Plate | 4 | Movement Speed Lv.1 | Reinforcement 40/40 | |
Plate | 4 | None | Reinforcement available | |
Plate | 3 | None | Tinnitus Immunity | |
Plate | 5 | None | None | |
Plate | 5 | None | Daze Immunity | |
3 | Movement Speed Lv.1 | Jackal Disguise | ||
3 | Lightning Resistance Lv.1 | Free Abyss Core (Momentum) |
The older comparison matches Bolton Plate Helm at 4 DEF and favors this mask for builds, but does not establish strict superiority at every refinement level. Grotevant and Kairos Plate Helm were listed at 5 DEF in those snapshots; this does not prove that they are the only higher-defense headgear. Check equivalent upgrades and actual effects before applying the older ranking.
The Blackwing Mask supports upgrades through the Refining System at Blacksmiths throughout the game world, including the one in Hernand. The earlier two-system description below is retained as an unresolved account; the recorded progression itself runs from Defense 2 to 21:
Reinforcement: Earlier notes describe a 40/40 gauge and an additional +6 DEF, using ores obtained through Mining, but that mechanism is not independently established by the recorded level table. Do not treat the older effective Defense 10 estimate as a fully refined maximum.
Refinement Levels: The recorded +0 through +10 table provides a separate Defense curve, not proof of extra scaling beyond the older gauge. Higher levels require the listed materials.
The Abyss Core slot is already occupied by Haste I, which lists Movement Speed Lv.1. The acquired Movement Speed Lv.1 display is not proof of a separate innate Lv.1 plus another automatically added Lv.1; check the actual equipment screen before totaling it twice.
The acquired 4-DEF/Movement Speed Lv.1 display supports a mobile setup, but does not prove the mask is the only plate headgear with high defense and movement effects.
The earlier gauge account quotes a Defense +6 bonus and effective Defense 10, but neither is a verified refinement maximum. Compare actual matching levels with the Grotevant Plate Helm.
Pairs naturally with the Blackwing Leather Armor and other Blackwing equipment for a complete visual set. Both the armor and the Blackwing Leather Boots also provide Movement Speed bonuses, creating a mobility-focused loadout.
The mask functions as a standard piece of Headgear and occupies the head armor slot. It is separate from the Mask accessory slot used for criminal activities like stealing. Players can equip both the Blackwing Mask in the headgear slot and a criminal mask in the accessory slot simultaneously.
Since the Blackwing Mask is a Chapter 5 quest reward, it becomes available at a point when many players are still using early-game plate helms. Equipping it immediately after the Crowcaller fight provides a significant defensive upgrade.
The sell price of 7.12 Silver Coins is an earlier price reference. The recorded vendor and Smith entries do not guarantee immediate replacement stock, but contradict treating the item as categorically impossible to obtain again.
