Anvil is a crafting attachment for the Weaponsmith Workshop and Shipwright's Workshop in Windrose. It unlocks a slate of weapon and ship-component recipes that require heavy metallurgy.

The Anvil is itself a crafted attachment item: build it at the Workbench for 30 Foothills Iron Ingot and 40 Wood, then place it inside the Weaponsmith Workshop or Shipwright's Workshop vicinity circle to unlock the Rare-tier recipes listed below.
Weaponsmith Workshop. The Anvil stacks with the Bellows to unlock Rare-tier weapon recipes. Firearms in particular gate behind the Anvil plus Bellows combination, including the Reliable Pistol and Buccaneer's Friend
Shipwright's Workshop. Unlocks advanced cannon variants and higher-tier hull components. Players working toward the Frigate often need the Anvil for auxiliary ship equipment rather than for the hull itself
Because the Anvil attaches to both the Weaponsmith Workshop and the Shipwright's Workshop, a single Anvil can serve both stations if they share a Bonfire radius. Most players build one Workshop zone around a shared Bonfire with the Anvil, Bellows, and a Smelting Furnace all in range, rather than duplicating attachments for each station.
The Anvil is not consumed as an ingredient in any item recipe. It is a placeable station attachment: once built, it bonds to a parent workshop and unlocks that workshop's higher-tier menu. The stations it extends are listed below.
Parent Station | What the Anvil Unlocks |
|---|---|
Rare-tier melee and, paired with the Bellows, firearm recipes such as the Reliable Pistol and Buccaneer's Friend. | |
Advanced cannon variants and higher-tier hull components used on the way to the Frigate. |
Weaponsmith Workshop, one of two parent stations
Shipwright's Workshop, the other parent station
Bellows, companion attachment for Rare firearm recipes
Crafting, the broader crafting tree
The Anvil follows the same vicinity-circle rule as every other crafting attachment in Windrose. It is not a standalone station. It bonds to a parent Weaponsmith Workshop or Shipwright Workshop when placed inside the parent's white vicinity circle, raising the parent's tier and unlocking a block of higher-tier recipes on that parent's existing crafting menu.
While you are holding the Anvil in build mode and hover it close to a weaponsmith workshop, the workshop displays a small green plus icon. The plus cycles through the icons of the weapons, ship components, and firearm parts the Anvil will unlock. Watch the icons before dropping the Anvil so you know exactly which Rare-tier weapons and which Frigate-class components the attachment will enable.
Unlike most attachments, the Anvil bonds to two possible parent stations. If a Weaponsmith Workshop and a Shipwright Workshop sit inside the same Bonfire radius and the Anvil is inside both vicinity circles, one Anvil raises both parents' tiers simultaneously. This is the standard layout for a main-base forge zone: pair the weaponsmith and the shipwright with a shared Smelting Furnace nearby and a single Anvil bridging them both. The Bellows attachment can join the same cluster, pushing both parents to their firearm and cannon tiers without duplicating equipment.
The Anvil itself does not require a roof. The parents it serves (Weaponsmith Workshop and Shipwright Workshop) do.
It must sit inside the parent's vicinity circle, which is visible only while you are placing the Anvil from the build panel.
Dropping the Anvil outside both vicinity circles makes it purely decorative. It will still block walking space but it will not raise any station's tier.
If you remove one of the parent workshops, the Anvil stays placed but its tier boost on the removed parent is lost. Re-place the workshop and the boost returns immediately.
The standard community-recommended layout treats Anvils the same way it treats other mechanical attachments. The build tutorial author specifically notes that Anvils, shoemaker's benches, and similar upgrade pieces do not animate and look like dead props when placed in the middle of a living room. Two common solutions:
Back foundation strip: build a one-tile-wide foundation along the outside back wall of the main building. Line the Anvil, Bellows, and other workshop attachments along that strip. The parents inside (weaponsmith, shipwright) still read the attachment circle because it all sits inside the same bonfire radius.
Outdoor forge shed: build a separate small shed with its own four pillars and a roof, and drop the weaponsmith, shipwright, and Anvil inside. This keeps the forge smoke and hammer noise out of the potion room.
Either way, make sure the Anvil sits inside the vicinity circle of every parent station you want it to boost. Hover with the Anvil in build mode to verify the circle overlap before you commit the materials.
It helps to think of Anvils, Bellows, Sawhorses, and Stove-and-Pots as a single family of upgrade items that all share the same placement rule set. They are not interchangeable, but the mechanic is identical:
Anvil: parents are Weaponsmith Workshop and Shipwright Workshop. Raises weapons to Rare tier and unlocks higher-tier ship parts.
Bellows: parents are the same pair as the Anvil. Stacks with Anvil for the firearm recipe block.
Stove and Pot: parent is the Alchemy Table. First-step tier boost for alchemy.
If an Anvil recipe is not appearing at a workshop even though the Anvil is placed, the first thing to check is not the materials. Check that the Anvil is inside the vicinity circle, and that the workshop itself is under a roof. Roof requirement belongs to the workshop, not to the Anvil, but a workshop without a roof does not function at all, which makes any Anvil attached to it inert.
