Comprehensive expansion with Canvas details, multiplayer plans, Canvastown, and persistent characters
inZOI launched as a single-player game on March 28, 2025. There is no online multiplayer at launch. The only online component is Canvas, a built-in platform for sharing user-generated content with the community.
Canvas lets players upload, download, and rate community creations. It is accessible both in-game and through a web browser at canvas.playinzoi.com. In-game, the Canvas icon appears in Create-a-Zoi, Play Mode, Build Mode, and Edit City mode.
Zois — full character designs with body shape, face, and outfit.
Houses — complete lots with buildings, furniture, and landscaping.
Faces — facial presets that can be applied to any Zoi in character creation.
Outfits — clothing combinations with colors and patterns.
Rooms — individual room layouts with furniture placement and decorations.
Furniture — custom furniture pieces created with the Craft system or 3D Printer.
Canvas has a four-tier ranking system based on total likes and followers:
Newbie — starting rank for all creators.
Silver — earned after accumulating a moderate number of likes.
Gold — established creators with a significant following.
Diamond — the highest rank, reserved for top creators.
Higher ranks unlock additional features and visibility. A TOP Ranking board highlights the most popular posts over daily, weekly, and monthly periods. Players can follow favorite creators to receive notifications when new content is uploaded.
Director Hyungjun "Kjun" Kim confirmed multiplayer as one of three major systems in active development for the 2026 roadmap. The planned system is called inZOI Online and includes:
Dedicated servers — designed to support hundreds to thousands of concurrent players in shared worlds.
Online lobbies — shared spaces where players can meet and socialize.
Chat — text communication between players in online sessions.
House visiting — players can visit and interact with other players' decorated houses and lots.
The multiplayer system is currently in the R&D (research and development) phase. The development team plans to share testing results with the community and build the feature based on player feedback.
A January 2026 update introduced persistent account-linked Zoi characters. This means a Zoi you create is tied to your account and can resume sessions across different play contexts. When you log back in, the Zoi continues where they left off rather than starting fresh. This feature is a foundation for the multiplayer system, where persistent characters will carry their identity into online sessions.
Canvastown is a new world concept built using the Fate Engine, a system built around "shared narratives" where Zoi stories interconnect and influence each other. Two Canvastown releases are planned:
Canvastown #1 (June 2026) — approximately 40 lots. An urban environment designed for community building and shared storytelling.
Canvastown #2 (October 2026) — approximately 50 lots. A rural and pastoral setting with a different atmosphere from the first release.
Canvastown is designed to lower system requirements compared to the main cities by optimizing through the Fate Engine's architecture. The worlds are built for the shared narrative philosophy, meaning events in one player's story can ripple into others.
