Rare Pokemetal is the rarest processed metal material in Pokemon Pokopia. It has a distinctive rainbow-colored appearance and is reserved for crafting items connected to Legendary Pokemon encounters and other endgame content. Unlike regular Pokemetal, which is used for appliances and standard furniture, Rare Pokemetal is required exclusively for the highest-tier recipes in the game.
Players need a total of at least 10 Rare Pokemetal ingots to craft both the Clear Bell and Tidal Bell, which are required for befriending Ho-Oh and Lugia. Beyond that, Rare Pokemetal is the material of choice for duplicating premium items at the 3D Printer, including Fossils, Berry Trees, and large decorative pieces.
Rare Pokemetal cannot be found directly in the world. Instead, players must collect Rare Pokemetal Fragments and then process them at a Smelting Furnace. The fragments are a rare byproduct of breaking Pokemetal Blocks, which are the same rainbow-colored ore blocks that drop regular Pokemetal Fragments.
Step | Details |
|---|---|
1. Break Pokemetal Blocks | Use enhanced Rock Smash (powered up by eating a Hamburger Steak) on the rainbow-colored Pokemetal Blocks found across several locations. |
2. Collect Rare Fragments | Each block has a small chance to drop a Rare Pokemetal Fragment alongside the more common regular fragments. The drop rate is low, so expect to break many blocks before accumulating enough. |
3. Smelt at Furnace | Place Rare Pokemetal Fragments into a Smelting Furnace and assign a Pokemon with the Burn specialty to power the furnace. The output is Rare Pokemetal ingots. |
Pokemetal Blocks appear in several late-game and endgame areas. Every block you destroy has a chance to drop Rare Pokemetal Fragments, so visiting locations with the highest density of blocks is the most efficient approach.
Location | Notes |
|---|---|
Blocks appear on the floating island to the east (requires Dragonite transformation to reach). Additional blocks are near the trash tower by the Pokemon Center and on the island where you meet Tinkmaster. One of the densest concentrations of blocks in the game. | |
The mine entrance is located north of the island, behind a gate fence that requires enhanced Cut to remove. Head down the steps, turn left at the fork, and follow the railway track. Three additional blocks are hidden behind vines near Professor Tangrowth's first meeting spot. | |
The Sky Dream Island (unlocked by giving Drifloon a Dragonite Doll) is considered the best endgame farming spot for Pokemetal ore. Accessible once per day. |
Rare Pokemetal is used in a small number of high-value crafting recipes. All of them are tied to endgame content, particularly Legendary Pokemon encounters and the 3D Printer.
The Clear Bell and Tidal Bell are the two most important items crafted with Rare Pokemetal. They are required to summon and befriend Ho-Oh and Lugia, respectively.
Item | Recipe | How to Unlock |
|---|---|---|
Clear Bell | 5 Rare Pokemetal + 5 Rainbow Feathers | |
Tidal Bell | 5 Rare Pokemetal + 5 Silver Feathers | Befriend all three Legendary Birds: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres |
Once crafted, ringing the Clear Bell when Ho-Oh is flying overhead causes it to land, allowing the player to befriend it. The Tidal Bell works the same way for Lugia. Together, the two bells require 10 Rare Pokemetal, making this the single largest use of the material.
The 3D Printer, found inside every Pokemon Center, can duplicate items from photographs. Simpler items cost regular Pokemetal (starting at 2 per item), but premium and larger objects require Rare Pokemetal instead. Notable items that cost Rare Pokemetal include:
Berry Trees: Widely considered the single best use of the 3D Printer. Visit Developer Island, photograph the Berry Trees there, then duplicate them to unlock every berry variety for Mosslax food buffs and cooking.
Fossils: Duplicate fossil specimens for the museum or for display at your base.
Large decorative items: Oversized furniture pieces and special decorations (such as the Horsea Fountain) require Rare Pokemetal. The cost scales with the item's size and complexity.
Because the drop rate for Rare Pokemetal Fragments is low, dedicated farming sessions are the most reliable way to stockpile the material. Here are proven strategies to maximize your yield.
Eat a Hamburger Steak before every session. You need the enhanced Rock Smash transformation to break Pokemetal Blocks. Any Hamburger Steak variant works (Simple, Tomato, Mushroom, Potato, Vibrant, Bitter), so cook whichever is cheapest with your current ingredients.
Feed Mosslax bitter-flavored food. Giving Mosslax food with the Bitter flavor increases your chances of finding rare items, which can help with overall rare material acquisition. A Salad with Leaf and Seaweed ingredients works well.
Prioritize the Sky Dream Island. The Dream Islands Sky Island (Dragonite Doll) has a high concentration of Pokemetal Blocks. Visit daily for a consistent stream of fragments.
Mine deeply in every deposit. Pokemetal Blocks often have multiple layers underground. Always dig as deep as possible rather than stopping at the surface block. Players report significantly more fragments by going several layers down.
Farm Sparkling Skylands between Dream Island visits. Since Sparkling Skylands has the densest overworld concentration of Pokemetal Blocks, use it as your primary farming ground when the daily Dream Island trip is on cooldown.
Do not rush the process. Rare Pokemetal Fragments accumulate naturally as a byproduct of regular Pokemetal farming. If you are not in a hurry, simply continue your normal gathering routine and check your stockpile before starting a dedicated session.

Rare drop from Pokemetal Blocks. Smelted into Rare Pokemetal ingots. | |
Another rare material found alongside Pokemetal on Dream Islands. | |
A precious metal ingot obtained from Gold Ore, used in high-tier crafting. |
You need exactly 10 Rare Pokemetal for both bells combined (5 each). Plan your farming around this number as a minimum goal if you are working toward Ho-Oh and Lugia.
The PC Shop in the Withered Wasteland sometimes stocks regular Pokemetal, but Rare Pokemetal is never sold. It can only be obtained through smelting Rare Pokemetal Fragments.
Berry Trees are the highest-priority 3D Printer item for most players. Consider duplicating all berry varieties from Developer Island before spending Rare Pokemetal on decorative items.
Keep a stockpile of Hamburger Steak ingredients (Wheat and meat) so you never run out of the enhanced Rock Smash buff during a farming session.
