Mosslax is one of the seven Special Pokemon in Pokemon Pokopia. It is a regional variant of Snorlax (Pokedex #108, Normal type) that has been sleeping for so long that moss, vines, and a small flower have grown across its entire body. Mosslax is found in Bleak Beach, where it resides in a cave and must be woken as part of the area's main storyline. It is the only Pokemon with the Eat specialty, which provides daily buffs based on the flavor of food offered.
Mosslax's most striking feature is the thick layer of green moss covering its body, the result of its extraordinarily long slumber. A small, colorful flower grows from the top of its head, and the number of flowers blooming represents quest progress during the "Brighten Things Up" storyline. Underneath the moss, it retains the round, heavy build of a typical Snorlax. Its moss-covered appearance gives it a natural, almost camouflaged look that blends with the environment of Bleak Beach.

Mosslax is found inside Mosslax's Cave on the cliff side of Bleak Beach, hidden behind rocks that must be broken with Rock Smash. The quest triggers when Meowth and Trubbish claim to hear an unusual noise coming from the cliff. To access Bleak Beach, players must first reach "Great" Trainer Rank on their Pokedex.
After being befriended, Snorlax/Mosslax can appear across all five areas through the Gourmet's Altar habitat (see below).
After discovering Mosslax via Rock Smash, Professor Tangrowth assigns the main quest "Brighten Things Up!". Bleak Beach is permanently dark when first accessed, and the goal is to restore light and power to the area. Progress is tracked by Bloom Points, visually represented by the number of flowers blooming on Mosslax's head.
Light three streetlights using Pawmi or a similar Electric-type Pokemon.
Build a fire habitat at Torchic's suggestion.
Construct a Shell Lamp in Peakychu's cave and power it.
Install Utility Poles on blocks with circular dot markers. These connect streetlamps and machines to electrical generation systems.
Build and connect three generator types: a windmill (on the ocean), multiple waterwheels, and a furnace (burns unwanted resources).
Activate all five charging stations by connecting them to the power grid.
Once all five stations are powered, speak to Peakychu to bring the light back.
Raikou then appears, fully awakening Mosslax. Speaking to Mosslax finishes the Bleak Beach story.
The goal is to reach 100 Bloom Points to complete the quest and unlock Raikou. Peakychu is a new variant of Pikachu encountered on a small island during this quest. It has trouble generating electricity on its own and guides players through the electrical infrastructure mechanics (Shell Lamps, power distribution, generators).
Completing the Bleak Beach story unlocks progression to Rocky Ridges or Sparkling Skylands. Players also encounter Zorua during this sequence, learning the Camouflage transformation ability.
Mosslax has the exclusive Eat specialty. After completing the Bleak Beach story, players can offer food to Mosslax once per day by placing it on the Offering Dish at the Gourmet's Altar. The food's dominant flavor determines the buff granted. Buffs last until the daily reset at 5:00 AM (system clock). Dry is Mosslax's favorite flavor.
Flavor | Buff Effect |
|---|---|
Generic (no dominant flavor) | Increased rate of growing closer to Pokemon (friendship/affinity boost) |
Bitter | Increased chance of finding rare items |
Dry (Mosslax's favorite) | Increased chance to see Pokemon with rare feathers (Ho-Oh and Lugia) |
Sour | Increased chance of shop having "Good" items |
Spicy | Increased chance of Pokemon appearing in habitats (spawn rate boost) |
Sweet | Increased chance of finding Ancient Artefacts |
The Spicy buff (habitat spawn rate) and Dry buff (rare feather Pokemon like Ho-Oh and Lugia) are considered particularly valuable. Different berries and cooked meals carry specific flavors, so players can strategically cook or select food to get the desired buff each day.
The strength of the buff depends on the quality of the food offered. There are three effectiveness tiers:
Tier | Source | Buff Strength |
|---|---|---|
Raw ingredients | Berries, vegetables, raw crops | Weak |
Simple cooked food | Basic recipes (Simple Salad, Simple Bread, Simple Soup) | Medium |
Unique cooked food | Advanced recipes with multiple ingredients | Strong |
Cooked meals provide stronger buffs than raw berries. Whenever possible, cook food before offering it to Mosslax for better results.
Each berry and ingredient in Pokopia has a dominant flavor. Use this reference to select the right food for the buff you want:
Flavor | Crops / Ingredients | |
|---|---|---|
Sweet | Pecha Berry | |
Bitter | Rawst Berry | Potato, Seaweed |
Sour | Aspear Berry | Tomato |
Spicy | Cheri Berry | Carrot |
Dry | Chesto Berry | |
Neutral (no flavor) | Leppa Berry, Lum Berry |
For the strongest buff effect, offer cooked meals rather than raw ingredients. Here are recommended recipes for each flavor:

Mosslax's habitat is called the Gourmet's Altar (Habitat Dex #093). It requires only one item to build:
Habitat | Components | Pokemon |
|---|---|---|
Gourmet's Altar (#093) | Offering Dish x1 | Snorlax / Mosslax |
The Offering Dish is a craftable furniture item. The habitat is available at all times of day and in all weather conditions. After building the Gourmet's Altar, Snorlax/Mosslax can appear in your settlement across any of the five areas.
Mosslax enjoys receiving gifts with these tags:
Soft stuff
Fabric
Looks like food
Watching stuff
Strange stuff
Spicy flavors
The name "Mosslax" is a combination of "Moss" (the plant growth covering its body) and "Snorlax," its species name.
Language | Name | Origin |
|---|---|---|
English | Mosslax | Moss + Snorlax |
Japanese | Koke-Kabigon | Koke (moss) + Kabigon (Snorlax) |
German | Mooslaxo | Moos (moss) + Relaxo (Snorlax) |
French | Ronflex Moussu | Ronflex (Snorlax) + moussu (mossy) |
Spanish | Musgorlax | Musgo (moss) + Snorlax |
Italian | Granmuschio | Gran (grand) + muschio (moss) |
Feed Mosslax every day to take advantage of its daily buff. You can only offer food once per day, and the buff resets at 5:00 AM.
Always cook meals before offering them. Cooked food provides stronger buffs than raw berries or ingredients.
Use Spicy food (Cheri Berry, Carrot) to boost habitat spawn rates when trying to attract rare Pokemon.
Use Dry food (Chesto Berry, Cave Mushrooms) to increase your chances of seeing Ho-Oh and Lugia flyovers for feather collecting.
The Crushed-Berry Salad (1 Leaf + 1 Chesto Berry on a Cutting Board) is the easiest Dry recipe to prepare.
Build the Gourmet's Altar near your cooking station for convenient daily feeding.
Mosslax's Eat specialty becomes available only after completing the "Brighten Things Up" quest and waking it from its sleep.
After completing the quest, you may need to wait one full in-game day before the first food offering becomes available.
