Overview
Neverness to Everness features a roster of playable characters known as Espers. Each Esper has a rank (S-Rank or A-Rank), an element, a unique weapon type, and an affiliation with one of Hethereau's organizations. Players build teams of up to four Espers and switch between them during combat using the Esper Cycle system. The roster continues to grow through post-launch updates and content expansions.

S-Rank Espers are the highest rarity characters, typically featuring more complex mechanics and stronger base stats. They can be obtained through the Scarborough Fair gacha system, with featured characters appearing on limited banners.

Organizations
Playable characters are affiliated with one of three main organizations in Hethereau:
Eibon Antique Shop: The player's home base. A small shop that takes on Anomaly commissions from the public.
Bureau of Anomaly Control: The government agency responsible for managing Anomalies and Espers.
Sterry Express: A courier service whose members have connections to the broader Esper community.
Team Building
Players assemble a team of up to four Espers for combat. Team composition is critical because the Esper Cycle system relies on combining specific element pairs to trigger elemental reactions. Each character's Esper Cycle Passive is active as long as they are in the squad, even when off-field, making every team slot strategically important. See the Team Building Guide for detailed strategies.
