Akane (also referred to as Akane Rin, Japanese: 明音凛) is an upcoming playable Esper in Neverness to Everness. The character is confirmed by current community data. Akane has generated significant community interest before her official gameplay reveal, with fans producing 3D models, cosplay props, and artwork ahead of her official reveal.

Name Origin

The name "Akane" (茜 or 明音) is of Japanese origin. In its most common kanji form, it means "deep red" or "brilliant red," derived from the madder plant used historically in Japan to produce crimson dyes. The surname "Rin" (凛) carries connotations of dignified coldness or severity in Japanese, often associated with sharp, composed personalities in fiction.

Acquisition

New Espers are typically introduced through limited-time gacha banners with boosted pull rates for the featured character. The game uses a no 50/50 pity system that guarantees the featured S-Class character after a set number of pulls without losing the 50/50 to an off-banner character. A-Class and B-Class characters may appear on the standard banner or as free rewards through events.

Band Connection to Aurelia

The April 18, 2026 Launch Preview Special Program revealed that Akane shares a music-group past with Aurelia, the A-Class launch-day Esper introduced as an NPC on Tamamochi Street during the Co-Ex Test. Aurelia was described on air as Akane's former bandmate, which frames both characters as alumni of the same group rather than as unrelated ex-performers.

The specific band name, the genre the two performed in, and the circumstances under which the group broke up have not been disclosed. What is confirmed is that the two characters have overlapping history and that any story content that digs into one character's music-scene past will likely surface the other as well. This gives Akane an existing connection inside the playable roster before her own combat kit or faction affiliation are officially revealed, which is unusual for a character whose element and role are still pending.

Team-building implication. If Hotta Studio leans on Akane's reveal to deliver a shared story beat with Aurelia, expect any eventual bond event or character-specific commission to pull both characters into the same questline. Players who already plan to keep Aurelia (claimed for free through the launch check-in event) will have a natural narrative reason to prioritize Akane on whichever banner eventually debuts her.

Post-Launch Status (Version 1.0)

Akane is not part of the Version 1.0 launch roster. The April 29, 2026 global launch shipped with 17 playable characters: 11 S-Class characters and 6 A-Class characters. The full launch roster is listed below for reference; Akane's rarity, element, weapon type, and combat kit have not been officially announced and the character is not yet playable on either the global or Mainland China client.

The Launch Preview Special Program on April 18, 2026 confirmed that Aurelia, an A-Class Psyche character available as a free login reward during the 14-day launch event, was formerly a bandmate of Akane Rin. The reveal tied Aurelia's music-scene background directly into Akane's existing presence in the game world rather than leaving the relationship as a generic ex-band member line.

This connection makes Akane the only datamined upcoming character with a confirmed direct relationship to a launch-roster character. The relationship is expected to be expanded on through Aurelia's character stories, side quests, and any future Akane reveal content.
