Overview

Jobs are the primary way for Zois to earn Meow in inZOI. There are over 20 organizations across Dowon, Bliss Bay, and Cahaya, each offering career paths with multiple promotion levels. Only Zois in the Young Adult through Middle-Aged life stages can hold jobs. Children and teens attend school instead, and Seniors are automatically retired.

How to Get a Job

Open the smartphone (press P) and tap the Career app. The app lists all available positions in the current city. Browse organizations, pick a position, and apply. Applications are accepted immediately with no interview or admission requirements. The only restriction is age: Zois must be Young Adult, Adult, or Middle-Aged.

When applying, choose between Full-Time and Part-Time where both options exist. Part-time positions have fewer working days and no promotion ladder. Full-time careers offer advancement through multiple levels with increasing pay. A Zoi can only hold one job at a time. Switching careers means quitting the current position first. Attending university and holding a job simultaneously is not allowed.

Career Types

Active (On-Site) Careers

Active careers let the player view the workplace interior and directly control the Zoi during their shift. Tasks and mini-games fill the promotion bar. This hands-on approach leads to faster promotions (3-4 working days per rank). See the Active vs Rabbit Hole Careers article for detailed comparisons.

Rabbit Hole (Off-Site) Careers

Rabbit hole careers send the Zoi off-screen via taxi. The player receives periodic updates and workplace event choices during the shift. Promotions are slower (8-10 working days per rank) because the player has less direct control.

Promotions

Advancing through career levels requires completing To-Do List tasks at work. Each career level has objectives that must be finished before promotion. These typically involve performing specific work actions or building certain skills to a required level. Once all requirements are met, the Zoi advances automatically at the end of their shift. Higher levels unlock better pay and, in some cases, reduced hours.

Getting Fired

Three unexcused absences result in termination. The Zoi receives a "Termination of Employee" text message on the smartphone. After being fired, the Zoi can apply for other jobs immediately or reapply for the same position if a vacancy exists. All promotion progress resets when reapplying.

Senior Retirement

All Seniors are automatically retired when they age into the Senior life stage. Their current job is terminated immediately. Seniors cannot hold careers. Players can disable aging in simulation settings to prevent forced retirement.

Commute

Zois leave home approximately 1 hour before their shift starts (e.g., leaving at 8 AM for a 9 AM shift). This travel time is automatic and cannot be skipped. The Zoi boards a taxi for rabbit hole careers or travels to the workplace for active careers.

Dowon Careers

The city of Dowon has 13 organizations offering employment. Salaries shown are per workday.

Bliss Bay Careers

Bliss Bay has 12 organizations. Several mirror Dowon's offerings with different names, while others are unique to the coastal city.

Cahaya Careers

The Island Getaway DLC (v0.3.0) introduced nine careers exclusive to Cahaya. All Cahaya careers are full-time rabbit hole jobs. There are no part-time or active careers on the island. See the Cahaya Careers article for full details.

Freelance Work

Not all income comes from formal employment. Zois can earn Meow through several freelance activities:

• Writing: Publishing books using Critical Thinking.

• Art: Paintings can be sold via the Pocket Market.

• Programming: Digital products sold through the computer.

• Gardening: Bonsai trees and harvested crops for sale.

• Busking: Street performances using the Instrument or Performance skill.

Freelance income varies by skill level and product quality. High-level creators can exceed formal career salaries.

Business Ownership

The v0.5.0 update (December 2025) added the Small Business System. Zois can own and operate bakeries, cafes, restaurants, gyms, florist shops, and more. Business owners earn revenue from customer traffic and manage operations through the Business App on the smartphone.

Career Tips

• Criminal careers (Boss rank at 2,169 Meow/day) pay the most per shift but cause negative karma and raise Crime Score.

• The Lawyer Partner position offers the best hourly rate at roughly 340 Meow per hour thanks to the short 6-hour schedule.

• Part-time jobs require no skill investment and provide steady income while developing other skills.

• Building relevant skills before applying speeds up promotions.

• The Idol Trainee career is the only one with an age restriction: Young Adults only.

• Switching careers resets all promotion progress. Consider this before changing jobs.

• Three unexcused absences gets your Zoi fired. Don't miss work.

• Seniors are auto-retired. Plan your Zoi's career timeline accordingly.

• A Zoi can only hold one job at a time. Use off-days for freelance income or business management.
