Overview
Thick Hide is a crafting material in Crimson Desert used for refinement at the blacksmith. It upgrades leather armor and jewelry. Thick Hide comes from the largest animals in the game, specifically rhinos and elephants, both found in the northern reaches of the map. These creatures have hefty health pools, so come prepared.
Animal Sources
Animal | Location | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Near the fast travel point on the main road in northern Crimson Desert | Always spawn at this location; reliable repeatable farm | |
Far north, slightly west of the main road leading to Varnia | High health; also drop Large Bone and Ivory |
Where to Hunt
Rhino Spawn (Northern Fast Travel Point)
Rhinos consistently spawn next to the fast travel point along the main road in the northern part of Crimson Desert. Teleport to this point, hunt the rhinos, then leave and return to reset the spawns. This loop is the fastest method for farming Thick Hide because the travel time is almost zero.
Elephant Territory
Elephants are found further north, positioned slightly west of the main road heading toward Varnia. They take longer to bring down than rhinos due to their large health pools, but they drop Large Bone and Ivory alongside Thick Hide, making each kill quite rewarding.
Tannery Shop
Thick Hide can be purchased from the Tannery in Hernand town. The shop restocks at midnight (in-game time). Sleeping at a bed or bonfire advances the clock if you want to buy multiple batches without waiting.
Crafting Uses
Thick Hide is a high-grade hide material used at the blacksmith during refinement. It appears in mid-to-late-game upgrade recipes for leather armor and jewelry. Because the same animals also drop Large Bone, a farming trip to the northern regions covers two material requirements at once.
Tips
Rhinos charge in straight lines. Side-dodge their charge, then punish with a combo while they turn around.
Elephants swing their tusks in wide arcs. Stay behind them and attack the hind legs to avoid the most dangerous moves.
Bring healing consumables. Both rhinos and elephants hit hard, and being caught by a charge or stomp can take most of your health bar.
If you also need Ivory, prioritize elephants over rhinos since only elephants drop Ivory.
