Overview

Shovel is a life-skill tool in Crimson Desert used for digging up soil, sand, and hidden underground items. It starts at 6 Attack at +0 and can be refined to 29 Attack at +10.
The shovel is not just flavor equipment. It is required for select digging interactions, including buried-item spots and resource gathering tied to underground materials such as Skyroot and Mercury. Equip it before attempting shovel-specific prompts in the field.
For progression, the important distinction is that shovel refinement increases the tool's Attack value, but the tool's core role remains utility. Players should upgrade it when they are actively following digging routes or need better life-skill efficiency, not simply because it appears in the equipment list.

Refinement
The Shovel can be refined through ten levels. Its Attack increases by 2 per level from +0 through +9, then jumps from 24 to 29 at +10. Refinement prices rise sharply after +4, and the material requirements begin adding Abyss Artifact at +5 and higher.
Level | Attack | |
|---|---|---|
+0 | 6 | None |
+1 | 8 | |
+3 | 12 | |
+5 | 16 | |
+8 | 22 | |
+10 | 29 | Aeserion's Scale, Abyss Artifact |
Upgrade Materials
Early upgrades use Iron Ore. Mid-tier refinement adds Small Bone and then Fang. Higher levels add Scolecite Ore before the final upgrade uses Aeserion's Scale and an Abyss Artifact. The shovel therefore competes with combat gear for several valuable upgrade materials if pushed all the way to +10.
A practical upgrade path is to refine only when the next digging route is blocked by poor tool performance or when spare materials are available. The +5 threshold is the first major decision point because it begins consuming Abyss Artifacts, while +8 and +9 add Scolecite Ore pressure before the final scale requirement.
How to Use
Life-skill instructions describe the shovel as an equipped tool. Select it from inventory, equip it, and use the shovel prompt in valid areas. Shovel prompts are not universal across all dirt or sand; they appear at designated spots for hidden items, buried resources, or specific gathering interactions.
Buried items: use the shovel at marked or valid dig spots to uncover hidden loot.
Skyroot: Skyroot gathering requires digging where the plant grows underground.
Mercury: Mercury gathering is also tied to shovel-supported underground extraction.
Refinement choice: upgrade only as far as your gathering route justifies, because late levels consume valuable materials.
