Scattered Embers is one of two Greymane faction quest chains in Crimson Desert. While the companion chain Grounds of the Sunrise focuses on tracking down scattered survivors and expanding the Greymane CampScattered Embers deals with daily life at the camp itself. These quests revolve around raising morale, building community, documenting the mercenary band's legacy, and tackling small but meaningful tasks that turn the Howling Hills campsite into a real home.
The chain becomes available after completing the Greymanes Reunited main quest at the end of Chapter 3. According to Beebom's comprehensive quest guide, the Scattered Embers category contains 34 quests in total, making it one of the largest faction quest pools in the game. The quests are unlocked gradually as the story progresses and more companions return to camp.

Many of the 34 quests unlock progressively as additional Greymane members are recruited through the Grounds of the Sunrise chain or through the main story. Quest givers are typically Greymane companions stationed at the camp.

Scattered Embers quests begin appearing after the Greymanes Reunited main quest concludes Chapter 3. At that point, the Greymane Camp expansion is complete and the first wave of scattered members has been gathered. New quests in the chain unlock as additional conditions are met:

Scattered Embers and Grounds of the Sunrise are the two branches of the Greymanes' faction quest system. They serve complementary roles:

Progress in one chain often unlocks quests in the other. For example, recruiting a new Greymane through Grounds of the Sunrise may trigger a Scattered Embers quest where that character settles into camp life.
Scattered Embers quests primarily reward items tied to the camp and quality-of-life systems rather than combat power. Confirmed reward types include:
Pet Companions: The Brown Dog from The Greymanes' New Fangs is the first pet most players obtain. Additional pets become available later.
Dyes: Grey Dye and potentially other colors are awarded through crafting quests like Brightening the Spirits. These feed into the Dye System.

Rest at the camp bed to trigger time-locked quests. If no new quests are showing up, resting may advance the clock to the correct window.
Pair these with Grounds of the Sunrise. Recruiting new Greymanes unlocks new Scattered Embers content, so alternate between both chains for the best progression flow.
Two Scattered Embers quests sit at the back half of the chain and are the ones most likely to block a player trying to finish the faction log. Both are available from Chapter 8 onward, after the events of the main story have pulled the party toward Pailune and the Greymanes have reunited. Together they gate the final Return Home quest, which is the specific step that relocates the Greymane Camp from Howling Hills to Pailune town.
Strength Held in the Fingertips is the Scattered Embers arm-wrestling quest. The quest giver is Oongka, and the start point is NOT the Greymane Camp: Oongka is standing at Calphade Castle in northeastern Hernand. Because the quest marker often does not appear on the camp quest board reliably, players who are checking only the camp for missed quests can end up stuck at 32 out of 34 Scattered Embers entries with no visible next step. The fix is to travel to Calphade Castle and speak with Oongka directly.
Prerequisites. The quest becomes available from Chapter 8 onward, and it requires the Chapter 6 Calphade storyline to be finished so that the castle is safely accessible. Some players have also reported needing to have completed the earlier How to Win in Arm Wrestling quest before Oongka's version will appear, since he uses the generic arm-wrestling minigame mechanic.
What it unlocks. Completing Strength Held in the Fingertips is one of the conditions that unlocks Oongka as a fully playable character for the rest of the game alongside Kliff and Damian. It also unlocks a follow-up arm-wrestling ladder where Kliff can challenge the tavern champion after winning three matches in a row. For Scattered Embers completion specifically, clearing this quest is what lets the final Return Home entry appear on the quest log.
Return Home in the Scattered Embers chain is distinct from the Chapter 6 main-quest of the same name. This Scattered Embers version is the last quest in the entire faction chain and exists only to trigger the relocation of the Greymane Camp from Howling Hills to Pailune town. The quest giver is the camp elder, and the step asks Kliff to travel to Pailune and speak with Macri about formally returning home.
It is the quest that moves the camp. After Kliff speaks with Macri, the game returns him to the Howling Hills camp where a cutscene packs the camp into a caravan and transports it to Pailune. From that moment, the Howling Hills clearing is empty and all camp activity takes place at the new Pailune layout. The Pailune article documents the prerequisites, the move-day bugs (cancel every camp dispatch first to avoid the black-screen bug), what carries over (ranch animals) versus what resets (farm crops, player-house furniture), and the post-move benefits (the extra 360 Private Storage slots, the Pailune Abyss Nexus, and the larger farm and ranch).
Why players stall here. Return Home will not appear until every earlier Scattered Embers entry is closed. Missing any one of them, including Strength Held in the Fingertips, blocks the final step. Players who believe they have finished the chain but still do not see Return Home should check two things: first, that their faction log actually reads 34 out of 34; second, that the Chapter 6 main-quest with the same name was already completed long ago and is not being confused with this Scattered Embers entry.
Hand-in prerequisite not listed in the log. The game also requires the first of the Pailune reconstruction Dispatch Missions to have been completed before Return Home is handed in. Only the first reconstruction mission is mandatory; the rest of the reconstruction list is optional and exists as a long-tail resource sink. Players who want to move as cheaply as possible should do only the first and leave the rest.
Beyond the two above, the Chapter 8+ block of the Scattered Embers chain also includes tutorial-style quests that walk through systems the player may already know but still need to flag as completed. The most commonly cited examples are the quest that introduces the Dye System (separate from the earlier Brightening the Spirits dye-craft quest), the one that walks through the Chapter 8 Bounty System mechanics, and the Yann-focused wagon-delivery quests that shuttle the player between Howling Hills and Demeniss. None of these are hard to complete once located, but they can be missed if the quest pop-up does not register at the camp. The recommended fallback is to walk the camp perimeter and look for unmarked dialogue dots on the minimap; several of the late-chain entries only surface that way rather than on the main quest log.
For a Better Tomorrow donation quest is NOT required. The camp-donations step For a Better Tomorrow is frequently suggested as a prerequisite for the move because it falls within the same progression window, but community testing confirms that the Pailune relocation does not actually gate on it. Players who skip it still see Return Home appear. Completing it is worth doing for the donation contribution alone, but it is not load-bearing for the camp move itself.
