The same crafting manual unlocks recipes for several other leather armor pieces, including the Ynitium Leather Armor, Weasel Leather Armor, Northern Fighter's Leather Gloves, Sein Leather Boots, Jester Leather Gloves, Melvin Leather Gloves, and more.

Leather chest armor typically requires hide materials gathered from hunting animals throughout Pywel. Common materials include Thin Hide and Thick Hide, which drop from wolves, deer, and other wildlife in the Hernand region and beyond.

Other Sources

Like most standard leather armor, the Matana Leather Armor may also appear in equipment vendor inventories or as loot from treasure chests scattered across the open world.

Patch 1.04 Availability

Patch 1.04 added the Matana Leather Armor to the Back Alley Shop in Hernand as a direct-purchase option. Before the patch the chest piece had to be obtained through crafting or found as world loot, and it was also the standard torso armor worn by the Hernandian Guard patrols that walk the city streets. With the update, players who build a strong relationship with the back-alley vendor can simply buy the armor outright, bypassing the crafting route entirely.

This addition is part of a broader 1.04 change that slotted guard-flavored chest armor into several regional back-alley shops. The listing appears in the vendor's secret-stash rows, which the patch also made visible up front: when you open the shop menu you now see every locked item together with its unlock requirement, rather than having those rows hidden until the requirement is met.

How to Purchase

The Hernand back-alley vendor gates the Matana Leather Armor behind maximum Trust (rank 100). No prestige or knowledge requirement applies to this particular listing; it is purely a trust gate. You reach that threshold by repeatedly gifting items the vendor prefers, the same way trust works for any other merchant in the game. Each successful gift moves the trust bar forward, and the bar for this vendor fills faster when the gift matches the shop's theme of shady goods and underground wares.

A practical order of operations looks like this:

• Locate the Hernand back-alley shop. It is tucked into a side street off the main merchant road and only opens at night, so check the vendor's posted hours before making the trip.

• Interact with the shopkeeper and open the gift menu. The menu lists the categories the vendor likes, which you can use to plan which items to save.

• Gift preferred items repeatedly. Keep checking the trust bar until it shows 100.

• Return to the shop tab. The Matana Leather Armor row is now purchasable with in-game gold.

• Buy the piece. The same trust rank also unlocks every other max-trust listing this vendor offers, so it is worth checking the full inventory before leaving.

Trust is per-vendor. Reaching 100 with the Hernand back-alley shop does not transfer to the back-alley shops in other regions, so each guard-chest piece must be unlocked separately by grinding trust with its own shopkeeper.

Regional Pattern

Every region's back-alley shop received the same kind of addition in 1.04: the chest piece worn by that region's city guards became purchasable at max trust. The specific armors confirmed so far line up region by region with the local guard uniform, giving players a new fashion route for looking like a soldier of each faction without relying on drops or crafting materials.

The Crimson Desert back-alley shop also appears to stock the Arcan Leather Helmet alongside the Leic Cloth Armor, though whether that helmet is a completely new 1.04 listing or a pre-existing item moved into the secret stash view has not been fully verified. Players exploring the back-alley shops in Pailune and other regions have reported similar guard-themed listings, so expect the same pattern to apply wherever a regional guard uniform exists.

Because trust has to be built up separately for each vendor, completing the full regional set is a longer-term goal rather than a one-sitting task. If the goal is only the Hernand look, focusing trust efforts on a single back-alley shopkeeper is the fastest path to the Matana Leather Armor.
