The Kitten is a small tameable cat companion in Crimson Desert. Kittens belong to the Cat family and can be found roaming settlements across Pywel. Like all pets in the game, the Kitten must be tamed through the trust system before it can be registered as a permanent companion. Players build trust by petting and feeding the kitten over the course of at least two in-game days. Once registered, the Kitten follows the player and automatically picks up loot from defeated enemies and resources from gathering activities.

Kittens are one of several cat breeds available as pets, alongside the Cat, Fat Cat, Slim Cat, Short-Haired Cat, Short-Haired Kitten, Long-Haired Cat, and Desert Cat. All cat breeds share the same core abilities and taming mechanics, but each has its own appearance and color variants.
Detail | Information |
|---|---|
Type | Pet (Cat) |
Species | |
Location | Settlements across Pywel |
Trust Required | 100 |
Minimum Taming Time | 2 in-game days |
Daily Trust Cap | 55 (25 from petting + 30 from feeding) |
Favorite Food | Fish Fillet (+35 trust) |
Color Variants | 6 (Yellow, White, Black, Bicolor, Tricolor, Yellow Cat) |
The Kitten comes in six color variants in addition to its default appearance. Each variant is purely cosmetic and does not affect the pet's stats or abilities. When a Kitten spawns at a given location, the game randomly assigns one of the available coat patterns. Players who want a specific look can leave the area and return to trigger a new spawn with a different variant.
Image | Variant | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Default | The standard Kitten appearance with a natural coat pattern. |
| Yellow Cat | A warm golden-toned variant with a yellow-orange coat. |
| Yellow | A lighter yellow variant with a pale golden coat. |
| White | A clean white coat variant, one of the rarer-looking patterns. |
| Black | A solid black coat variant. |
| Bicolor | A two-toned coat with patches of contrasting colors. |
| Tricolor | A calico-style coat featuring three distinct colors. |
Taming a Kitten requires raising its trust from 0 to 100. Because of daily caps on both petting and feeding, the process takes a minimum of two in-game days. For a full breakdown of the trust system across all pet types, see the Pet Taming Guide.
Trust is built through two actions: petting and feeding.
Petting: Pick up the kitten by holding the interaction button, then press the pet button. Each pet grants +5 trust. You can pet a kitten up to 5 times per in-game day, for a maximum of +25 trust from petting alone.
Feeding: Drop food items on the ground near the kitten. The kitten will walk over and eat the food, granting trust based on the item's quality. You can feed a pet up to 3 times per in-game day. The daily caps reset at midnight (12:00 AM in-game time).
Locate a Kitten. Kittens can be found in settlements throughout Pywel. Look for them near houses, markets, and other populated areas.
Pick up the kitten. Approach the kitten and hold the interaction button to carry it. Unlike dogs, cats must be picked up before you can pet them.
Pet it 5 times. While holding the kitten, press the pet button 5 times to earn +25 trust.
Feed it. Set the kitten down and discard a food item from your inventory nearby. Fish Fillet is the best option at +35 trust per feeding. Feed it up to 3 times for a maximum of +30 trust from standard items or +105 from Fish Fillets.
Wait for the daily reset. Once you hit the daily cap, wait until midnight for the in-game day to reset. Pick up the kitten and hold it so it does not wander away while you wait.
Repeat on Day 2. Pet 5 more times (+25 trust) and feed again until trust reaches 100.
Register the pet. At 100 trust, set the kitten down and hold the interaction button. Select "Take In" to permanently register the Kitten as your pet.
The fastest way to tame a Kitten is to use Fish Fillet as the food item, since it is the Kitten's favorite food and grants +35 trust per feeding. With Fish Fillets, you can reach 100 trust over two days as follows:
Action | Trust Gained | Running Total | Day |
|---|---|---|---|
Pet x5 | +25 | 25 | Day 1 |
Feed Fish Fillet x3 | +105 | 100+ (capped) | Day 1 |
If using Fish Fillets, you can actually reach 100 trust on the first day because three feedings of +35 each provide +105 trust, which combined with the +25 from petting totals 130. Since only 100 is required, feeding three Fish Fillets after petting is enough to register the Kitten immediately. This makes Fish Fillet the only food that allows single-day taming.
With standard +10 trust foods (such as Bird Meat, Fish, or Dried Fish), the minimum taming time is two in-game days:
Action | Trust Gained | Running Total | Day |
|---|---|---|---|
Pet x5 | +25 | 25 | Day 1 |
Feed x3 (+10 each) | +30 | 55 | Day 1 |
Pet x5 (after midnight) | +25 | 80 | Day 2 |
Feed x2 (+10 each) | +20 | 100 | Day 2 |
Take In | - | 100 (Registered) | Day 2 |
The Kitten accepts a wide range of food items, each granting a different amount of trust. The table below lists the main trust item categories and their values. Items marked as "Favorite" provide the highest trust gains.
Item | Trust | Notes |
|---|---|---|
+35 | Favorite food. Best trust-per-feeding ratio. Obtained by processing fish at a cooking station. | |
+100 | Instantly maxes trust. Includes Golden Tench, Coelacanth, Golden Carp, Clockwork Fish, Golden Coelacanth, and Hexe Earthen Fish. | |
Field Iron Griddle Dishes | +20 | Cooked dishes from the Field Iron Griddle. Includes grilled meats, fish, vegetables, fruit, toasted grains, smoked eggs, skewers, and their Hearty/Satisfying/Filling variants. |
+20 | Cooked dishes from the Field Cooking Pot. Includes soups, porridges, braised ribs, steamed eggs, fruit punch, and their Hearty/Satisfying/Filling variants. | |
+10 | A common cat food item found in buckets and containers near fishing docks. | |
Fish (raw) | +10 | Any raw fish. Includes Paddlefish, Salmon, Trout, Carp, Catfish, Tench, Mackerel, Bass, Perch, and dozens more. |
+10 | Includes Lean Bird Meat and regular Bird Meat. Dropped by birds or purchased from vendors. | |
Fruit | +10 | Any fruit item. Includes Apple, Grape, Orange, Peach, Tomato, Blueberry, Strawberry, Pear, Fig, Pomegranate, and more. |
Dairy Products | +10 |
For maximum efficiency, stock up on Fish Fillets before attempting to tame a Kitten. Fish Fillets are crafted at a cooking station from raw fish and are the only standard food item that can enable single-day taming thanks to the +35 trust per feeding.
Kittens can be outfitted with cosmetic pet equipment purchased from pet shops in Pywel. Pet equipment is purely cosmetic and does not provide any stat bonuses or gameplay advantages. There are two pet shops in the game: one in Pororin Forest near Hernand, and another in the southwestern part of the City of Demeniss.
The following equipment items are available for cat pets, including the Kitten:
Item | Slot | Description |
|---|---|---|
Pet Helm | A small plate helmet designed for cats. Gives the Kitten a knightly appearance. | |
Pet Outfit | A matching plate armor outfit for cats. Pairs with the Cat Plate Helm. | |
Pet Helm | A merchant-style hat for cats, giving them a traveling peddler look. | |
Pet Outfit | A merchant-themed outfit that pairs with the Peddler Cat Hat. | |
Pet Helm | A formal uniform cap for cats. | |
Pet Outfit | A formal uniform outfit for cats. Pairs with the Uniform Cat Hat. |
Equipment is managed through the Inventory menu under the Pets tab. Select your active Kitten and equip items in the Helm and Outfit slots.
Once registered, the Kitten provides the same passive abilities as all other pets in Crimson Desert. These abilities activate automatically when the pet is summoned.
Ability | Description |
|---|---|
Auto-Loot (Combat) | The Kitten automatically runs to defeated enemies and picks up dropped items, including equipment, materials, and consumables. |
Resource Pickup (Gathering) | When the player mines ores, chops trees, or harvests herbs, the Kitten collects the dropped resources automatically. |
Destructible Pickup | The Kitten also gathers items from destructible objects and environmental containers that the player breaks. |
Exploration Companion | The Kitten follows the player across all regions of Pywel while summoned. |
Pets are invulnerable during combat and cannot be targeted by enemies. Players can register up to 30 pets total, but only one pet can be actively summoned at a time. Switch between registered pets through the Pets tab in the Inventory menu.
Fish Fillet is the Kitten's favorite food and grants +35 trust per feeding. Bring at least 3 Fish Fillets to tame a Kitten in a single in-game day.
Craft the Companionship enchant on Abyss gear to increase trust gain speed with pets. The Solidarity enchant increases trust gain with all NPCs and animals.
When picking up a kitten, carry it indoors to prevent it from wandering away or despawning while you prepare food or wait for the daily reset.
Drop food items one at a time. If you discard multiple items at once, the kitten may only eat one, wasting the rest. Wait for it to finish eating before dropping the next piece.
If the kitten is not at its usual spawn point, leave the area completely and return to trigger a respawn. The game re-rolls animal spawns when you re-enter a zone.
To get a specific color variant, reset the spawn area repeatedly. Each spawn randomly assigns a coat pattern, and all variants share identical stats.
Legendary Fish items such as Golden Tench and Coelacanth grant +100 trust instantly, letting you skip the feeding process entirely if you have one available.
You can skip the midnight wait by resting at a camp or using other time-skip mechanics.
