Overview
A Fleeting Dream is the 118th main mission in Crimson Desert, part of Chapter 8: Blood Coronation under the Traitor sub-chapter. According to Naira, Bastier is hiding in a tower to the east of Demeniss. The quest tasks Damiane (not Kliff) with confronting Lucian Bastier and delivering justice in her swordmaster's name. This is one of the few quests in the game where you play as Damiane, and completing it concludes Chapter 8.
Objectives
Head to the tower east of Demeniss
Defeat Lucian Bastier
Walkthrough
Reaching the Tower
Travel to the eastern edge of Demeniss following the quest marker. The tower is visible from a distance. There are no enemies along the approach path, so you can ride directly to the entrance.
Boss Fight: Lucian Bastier
Lucian Bastier is a two-phase boss. Each phase has its own health bar, and he transforms into a monstrous form after the first bar is depleted. This is widely considered one of the more frustrating encounters in the game due to Bastier's aggressive blocking and teleportation mechanics.
Phase 1: Shield and Mace
Bastier wields a shield and mace in his human form. He constantly blocks frontal attacks, making head-on aggression ineffective. The key strategy is to wait for him to attack first, dodge sideways to get behind him, and then strike his exposed back.
Watch for his floor explosions, which travel in a straight line from his position. Dodge sideways rather than backward to avoid them. After three or four melee combos, Bastier typically pauses to catch his breath, giving you a brief window for two to three heavy attacks.
Phase 2: Monster Transformation
After losing his first health bar, Bastier transforms into a monstrous form. In this phase, he frequently teleports around the arena and summons invulnerable shadow demons that pursue Damiane. The shadow demons cannot be killed, so avoid them while focusing on Bastier.
Attack only during the brief pauses between Bastier's teleportation sequences. Watch for his arm positioning, as it signals incoming counterattacks. Dodge in a circular pattern around the boss rather than directly backward, since his attacks have forward reach that can clip you even at a distance.
Preparation Tips
Upgrade Damiane's starting armor by 1 to 2 levels for additional defense
Equip the Golden Vanguard two-handed spear if you have it (reward from Boss #11)
Bring at least 100 Grilled Meat for healing through the extended fight
Focus on dodge timing rather than blocking; Bastier's attacks deal heavy chip damage through shields
What Happens Next
Defeating Bastier completes A Fleeting Dream and concludes Chapter 8: Blood Coronation. Control returns to Kliff for the events of Chapter 9. The Spire of Clockwork key item obtained here becomes important later in the main storyline.
Tips
Be patient in Phase 1. Bastier blocks almost everything if you attack from the front. Circle around him after his combos to find openings.
In Phase 2, do not chase Bastier when he teleports. Let him come to you and counter his attacks.
The shadow demons he summons in Phase 2 are invulnerable. Ignore them and focus on dodging until they disappear on their own.
This fight can be long and exhausting. If you run low on healing items, play defensively and only attack during guaranteed safe windows.
The Official Knight's armor set rewarded here provides solid defense for the early portions of Chapter 9.
Rewards and Post-Quest Unlocks
Beyond the four armor pieces listed in the Rewards table, defeating Lucian Bastier also drops the Spire of Clockwork Key, a unique key item that does not appear in any other quest. This key is the single gateway to two major pieces of late-game content, so the quest rewards matter well beyond the immediate Chapter 8 conclusion.
Spire of Clockwork Key
The key unlocks the main gate of the Spire of Clockwork, the optional traversal Spire located at Breezeblown Knoll in eastern Demeniss. Inserting it on the front door of the Spire also turns on the clockwork mechanisms, including the gear-driven lifts on the exterior and the rotating cogs inside the tower. The key is not consumed when the gate opens, so you can return to the Spire as many times as needed.
Unlocks the Spire of Clockwork Run
Completing the Spire of Clockwork puzzle rewards a Abyss Artifact inside the Riddle Square gliding time trial, which in turn unlocks Wind Level 1 and the Storm Veil skill. Progress on the Spire also counts toward the Conqueror of Spires trophy, which asks players to clear every Spire in the game.
Unlocks Access to the Mace of Ambition
Making the Spire operational with the clockwork key is a hard requirement for collecting the hidden Mace of Ambition, a one-handed fire-affinity weapon tucked inside a secret room near the top of the tower. The exterior cogs only rotate while the Spire is powered, and the cog rotation is what lets players clip through an otherwise solid wall to reach the hidden chamber. Players attempting the Mace of Ambition glitch should also bring a small stack of Explosive Arrows to clear blocked pipes on the way in.
Story Impact
Completing A Fleeting Dream closes Chapter 8: Blood Coronation. Control of the main story returns to Kliff for Chapter 9, but Damiane's Official Knight's armor set stays available on him and remains a solid defense baseline for the opening encounters of the next chapter.
