Overview
A scarred, storied mark from a true sea-dog of Blackbeard's crews.
Old Salt Insignia is the Legendary top-tier reputation item in Windrose. It drops exclusively from the highest-rank Blackbeard ships and is turned in at any Tortuga archipelago faction for the largest single-hand-in reputation reward available in the current build. The secondary flavor text reads "This belonged to someone who outlived mercy," which matches the endgame-only drop table. This is the fourth and final rung of the Faction Insignia ladder.

Insignia Ladder
Insignias are the workhorse cross-faction reputation items. Every Tortuga faction accepts them because they all oppose Blackbeard, so a single insignia can be routed to whichever faction you want to raise. The four tiers and their turn-in values:
Tier | Insignia | Reputation per Turn-In |
|---|---|---|
Common | +1 | |
Uncommon | +4 | |
Rare | +20 | |
Old Salt Insignia | Legendary | +80 |
Vendors and Pricing
Old Salt Insignia is not bought or sold by any vendor. The item's value is strictly reputation, routed through the Bounty Agents system.
Loot Sources
Old Salt Insignia has the shortest and hardest drop table of the four insignia tiers. Only Blackbeard Brig and Blackbeard Frigate boarding actions surface the item, and only a Brig boarding guarantees a drop.

How to Cash Out
A single Old Salt Insignia crosses most rank thresholds on its own. Hold any that drop until the reputation bar is within one full rank push of the next threshold, then burn the insignia to cross it cleanly. Handing in an Old Salt Insignia mid-rank leaves the overflow reputation wasted.
Because only Brig boardings guarantee the drop, the practical farm is a dedicated Brig hunt: engage, board, sweep, and return to port with a single insignia per successful encounter. Frigate boardings add a 30% chance, so layering Frigate engagements on top of Brig runs raises the insignia rate without a separate farm path.
Tips
Bring a strong late-tier Cutlass or Saber to the boarding. Brig crews include multiple Pirate Sergeant enemies, and chopping through them quickly is what separates a clean clear from a lost boarding.
Old Salt Insignia is the only insignia tier that routinely crosses a full rank threshold in one turn-in. Match the hand-in to the rank you want to cross, not the one you are currently sitting on.
A Frigate boarding plus a Brig boarding in the same play session gives an expected yield of about 1.3 Old Salt Insignias, plus whatever other insignia drops the two encounters produce.
Letters of Favor are a separate cross-faction turn-in worth +10 reputation each, useful for topping up between insignia drops.
Reputation Payout
Turning in one Old Salt Insignia at any faction Bounty Agents grants +80 reputation with the chosen faction. The value is identical at every Bounty Agent stall, so the item can be routed to whichever faction is closest to its next rank threshold.
Reputation rank thresholds sit at 0, 100, 400, and 1000. A single Old Salt Insignia therefore covers most of the early gap on its own and remains the most efficient single-item turn-in for closing out a rank near any ceiling.
Drops only from Blackbeard Brig (guaranteed) and Blackbeard Frigate (30%) boarding actions. The highest single-item reputation payout in the game.
