Smelting is the process of converting raw ores into refined ingots and other processed materials in Pokemon Pokopia. There are two distinct types of furnaces in the game: the Smelting Furnace for material processing and the Power Furnace (Generator) for producing electricity. A separate machine, the Concrete Mixer, handles Limestone processing in Sparkling Skylands.
The Smelting Furnace is a crafting station that uses a Pokemon with the Burn specialty to heat raw ores into refined materials. To smelt:
Place raw ore near the Smelting Furnace.
Lead a Pokemon with the Burn specialty (such as Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, Torchic, or Combusken) to the furnace.
The Burn Pokemon will heat the ore, converting it into refined material.
The Smelting Furnace needs power to operate. Connect it to a power grid using a Pokemon with the Generate specialty, or place it near a windmill or waterwheel.

The Concrete Mixer is a separate processing station unlocked in Sparkling Skylands. It converts Limestone into Concrete with the help of a Pokemon with the Crush specialty. Concrete is a late-game building material used for large-scale construction. Limestone can also be crafted into Marble (4 Limestone → 1 Marble) at a regular Workbench without any specialty requirement.
Ore | Primary Location | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Rocky Ridges mine entrance | Most basic ore; visible as reddish nuggets in rock | |
Rocky Ridges deep mines | Silver nuggets in dark rock; needs powered-up Rock Smash | |
Rarest standard ore; golden streaks in rock | ||
Near waterfalls and behind Tinkmaster's tower | ||
Rocky Ridges, Rock Peak Dream Islands | Pale stone; processed at Concrete Mixer or Workbench | |
Rocky Ridges volcanic areas | Fine powder near vents; smelts into Glass |
The Power Furnace (also called the Furnace Generator) is a completely separate item from the Smelting Furnace. It burns fuel (wood or coal) to generate electricity, producing approximately 15 to 25 power units. Power is distributed through Utility Poles or Wireless Power Transmitters to operate lamps, machines, and other electrical appliances.
Iron Ingots have an additional use beyond standard crafting: Tinkmaster can convert 1 Iron Ingot into 3 Tinkgears, a special late-game material required for advanced structures like the Lift platform and other major building projects in Sparkling Skylands.
Always eat a Hamburger Steak before mining runs to ensure Rock Smash can break ore blocks including granite and steel.
Set up a dedicated smelting area near your mining spot with a Smelting Furnace, Storage Box, and a Burn-specialty Pokemon.
Prioritize Iron Ore early, as Iron Ingots are needed for Tinkgears and many late-game recipes.
The Power Furnace is useful in areas without natural power sources like windmills or waterwheels.
Multiple Glass sources exist: Sand from Bleak Beach, Sandstone, and Volcanic Ash from Rocky Ridges all smelt into Glass.
