Overview
Shutter is a paintable Building item in Pokemon Pokopia featuring a Poke Ball design at its center. The shutter functions like a roll-up garage door and, when paired with a Card Reader, lets players build custom Area Gates that can be locked or themed for specific zones.
In-game description: "This roll-up shutter has a Poke Ball design smack-dab in the middle and feels like it could be the entrance to a secret base."

How to Obtain
Source 1: Overworld Pickup
An original Shutter exists in the Sparkling Skylands overworld as part of the abandoned office buildings.
Source 2: Crafting (After Pokedex Completion)
The Shutter recipe is unlocked by entering the hidden Pokedex Completion Room in Sparkling Skylands. To enter the room, complete the Pokedex (300 Pokemon registered) and use the Neo Dowsing Machine to find the scanner that opens the gate. The Shutter recipe is one of three exclusive crafting unlocks inside, alongside the Printer and Card Reader.
Recipe: 2 Iron Ingot at any Workbench.
Custom Area Gates
Combined with a Card Reader, the Shutter creates a custom Area Gate. Place the Shutter as a doorway and the Card Reader on a wall beside it. The Card Reader registers a key (such as a Pokedex or specific item) and the Shutter opens when the matching key is presented. This system mimics the area gates that block progression in the main game story but lets players design their own restricted zones for creative builds.
Tips
Use the Shutter and Card Reader to build mock secret bases or themed entryways in your settlements.
Paint the Shutter to match your settlement's color scheme. The Poke Ball design at its center remains regardless of paint.
Pair with the Printer for a complete Sparkling Skylands office aesthetic.
The original overworld Shutter in Sparkling Skylands can be photographed and 3D-printed for non-completionists who haven't unlocked the recipe yet.
