Armor in Windrose occupies five equipment slots (Head, Torso, Hands, Legs, Feet) and ranges across five documented rarity tiers, with 41 armor items confirmed at game version 0.10.0.0.277 (April 2026). Each Rare armor set adds a 2-piece and a 4-piece set bonus that reshapes combat loadouts; players can mix two pieces from each of two different sets to chain two 2-piece bonuses, or commit all five to access the 4-piece effect.
All armor occupies one of five slots. Piece names change by set (for example, the torso piece is a Cuirass in Conquistador's Armor but a Jacket in Tracker's Leathers), though the slot behavior is identical across sets.
Slot | Piece Name Examples | Display Notes |
|---|---|---|
Head | Helmet, Hat, Tricorne, Bandana, Mask, Headband | Heavy plate sets use Helmet; light sets use Hat, Tricorne, or Bandana; Epic uses Mask |
Torso | Cuirass, Doublet, Jacket | Heavy plate sets use Cuirass; light sets use Doublet or Jacket |
Hands | Gloves | Gloves across every set and tier |
Legs | Pants | Pants across every set and tier |
Feet | Boots | Boots across every set and tier |
Rarity | Base Defense (Item Level 1) | Items at This Tier |
|---|---|---|
Common | 90 DEF | Headband (head); Torn Doublet, Torn Pants, Torn Gloves, Torn Boots. Starter gear equipped at the prologue. |
Uncommon | 100 DEF | Survivor's Set (Bandana, Jacket, Gloves, Pants, Boots); the first full crafted tier |

Epic | 300 DEF (standard for Epic pieces) | Ancient Peoples' Mask (head slot, standalone). Rare pieces upgraded to Item Level 8 can ascend to Epic using Tumbaga Ingots from Blackbeard Treasure Maps. |
Legendary / Mythic | Documented in the rarity system | No items currently documented at these tiers in Early Access. |
Six Rare armor sets are currently documented in the game and on community databases. Set bonuses listed below are the current values as of game version 0.10.0.0.277 (April 2026). The Tracker's 2-piece and 4-piece bonuses were swapped during patch v0.10.0.0 on April 13, 2026, so older guides may show the inverted values.

Every armor slot has its displayed Defense averaged across all equipped pieces for the purpose of damage-mitigation calculations. Upgrading only one piece while leaving the other four at Item Level 1 gives far less effective defense than the upgraded piece's displayed DEF alone. Upgrade all five pieces evenly for the best results.
Rare and Uncommon armor has three distinct crafting tiers (Item Level 1, 6, and 11), each requiring a different workshop attachment and material tier. Each tier can then be upgraded an additional 4 to 5 levels at the Upgrading Station. Rare items upgraded to Item Level 8 can ascend to Epic rarity using Tumbaga Ingots, the reward currency from Blackbeard Treasure Maps.
Most named sets unlock their torso and legs plans through faction Provisioners at Reputation Rank 2 for 200 Piastres each. The remaining slots (head, hands, feet) open at higher Reputation Ranks with the same Provisioner. Plans are then crafted at the Armor and Clothing Workshop using gathered materials (leather, fabric, ingots).
