Overview
inZOI features four distinct seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. These seasons cycle continuously, with each one lasting exactly 7 in-game days for a full cycle of 28 days. At the default day length of 96 real-time minutes per in-game day, one complete seasonal cycle takes roughly 44 hours and 48 minutes of real-time play at normal speed. Seasons affect weather patterns, available outdoor activities, NPC behavior, environmental visuals, and your Zoi's physical comfort. The seasonal system was part of the base game from launch and has been expanded with seasonal festivals in subsequent updates.
How dramatically the seasons affect your gameplay depends on which city you live in. Dowon experiences the full range of all four seasons with significant temperature swings, snow in winter, and cherry blossoms in spring. Bliss Bay and Cahaya maintain warm, tropical climates year-round, meaning their residents never deal with freezing temperatures or snowfall under normal conditions. This makes your choice of starting city an important factor in how much seasonal management you will encounter during play.
Season Cycle and Duration
Each season lasts 7 in-game days before transitioning to the next. The order follows the natural progression: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. The transition happens automatically at midnight on the seventh day. You can check the current season and day through the smartphone weather app or by observing environmental cues like foliage color, sky lighting, and NPC clothing.

Season | Duration | Temperature | |
|---|---|---|---|
Spring | 7 in-game days | Mix of sunny and rainy days | Mild, warming trend |
Summer | 7 in-game days | Mostly sunny, occasional thunderstorms | Hot |
Fall | 7 in-game days | Overcast, increasing rain | Cool, dropping temperatures |
Winter | 7 in-game days | Snow, cold snaps | Cold, risk of illness from exposure |
Players can also temporarily override the current weather through City Edit Mode. This lets you force sunny, cloudy, rainy, or snowy conditions regardless of the actual season. However, these manual changes revert to the default seasonal weather after one in-game hour, so they are best used for screenshots or short-term creative purposes rather than permanent climate control.
Spring Activities
Spring marks the start of a new seasonal cycle and brings mild temperatures back to Dowon after the winter cold. Trees begin to bloom, and the city takes on a brighter, greener appearance. This is widely considered the best season for outdoor activities and starting new gardening projects.
Gardening and planting: Spring is the optimal planting season for crops and flowers. Seeds planted at the start of spring have the longest growing window before the cold returns. The mild temperatures and regular rainfall create ideal conditions for plant growth.
Cherry blossom viewing: In Dowon, cherry trees bloom with pink flowers during spring. This is a cosmetic visual change that affects trees throughout the city's parks and streets, giving the environment a distinctive look.
Outdoor picnics: The mild weather makes spring ideal for visiting Central Park and other park areas for picnics and socializing. NPCs also become more active outdoors during this season.
Fishing: Spring is a productive season for fishing as water temperatures rise and fish become more active. Freshwater spots in Dowon see increased activity during the warmer spring days.
Pollen allergies: Spring brings pollen, which can trigger the "itchy nose from pollen" emotion in affected Zois. This condition causes discomfort and can be treated with allergy medicine from a First Aid Kit. Not all Zois are affected, so the impact varies.
Summer Activities
Summer is the hottest season, bringing long daylight hours and the warmest temperatures. In Dowon, expect mostly sunny skies with occasional thunderstorms that roll through during the late afternoon or evening. Summer is the peak season for water-based activities across all three cities.
Swimming: Pools and beaches become the primary social hubs during summer. Swimming is available at public pools in Dowon and at the beaches in Bliss Bay and Cahaya. The warm temperatures make this the most comfortable time to spend extended periods in the water.
Beach and water sports: Bliss Bay's and Cahaya's coastlines are lively year-round, but summer draws the largest crowds. Beach lounging, surfing spots, and general waterfront socializing peak during this season.
Diving and snorkeling: Cahaya's tropical waters are ideal for diving and snorkeling throughout the year, but summer's calm seas and clear visibility make conditions especially favorable for underwater exploration.
Longer daylight hours: Summer days are the longest in the yearly cycle, giving you more daylight for outdoor activities before nightfall. This extra time is useful for fishing, gardening, and socializing in parks.
Thunderstorms: Occasional summer thunderstorms can interrupt outdoor plans. When storms hit, NPCs head indoors and outdoor activities become less practical. Rain clears after a period, but it can force a temporary shift to indoor pursuits like cooking or skill-building at home.
Heat discomfort: In Dowon, Zois wearing heavy or layered clothing during hot summer days may experience discomfort. Switching to lighter outfits keeps your Zoi comfortable and avoids negative mood effects.
Fall Activities
Fall is a transitional season that brings cooling temperatures, overcast skies, and increasing rainfall to Dowon. The city's trees shift from green to vivid shades of orange, red, and gold, creating some of the most visually striking scenery in the game. While outdoor conditions become less predictable, fall offers its own set of activities and gameplay considerations.
Foliage changes: Dowon's trees turn orange and red during fall, transforming the look of parks, residential streets, and public plazas. This is purely visual but adds significant atmosphere to the city.
Harvest season: Crops planted in spring or summer reach maturity during fall. This is the window to harvest your garden plots before winter arrives and growing conditions deteriorate.
Fishing in overcast conditions: Fall fishing remains productive, and some players find the overcast weather adds to the mood of fishing along Dowon's rivers and lakeshores.
Increased rain: Rain becomes more frequent in fall, which can interrupt outdoor socializing and park visits. Keeping an eye on the smartphone weather forecast helps you plan around wet days.
Wardrobe transition: As temperatures drop, you should start transitioning your Zoi's wardrobe to warmer clothing. Continuing to wear summer outfits into late fall risks triggering cold-related discomfort or illness, especially toward the end of the season as winter approaches.
Halloween Festival: The Halloween Festival takes place during fall, introduced in the v0.4.0 update (October 30, 2025). This seasonal event features pumpkin farming and carving, trick-or-treating by children at night, ghost fish that appear in waters between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM, and new pumpkin-based cooking recipes including Pumpkin Soup, Pumpkin Pie, and Pumpkin Candy.
Winter Activities
Winter is the coldest and most demanding season in Dowon. Snowfall blankets the city's streets, rooftops, and parks, creating a dramatic shift in the visual landscape. Winter requires the most active clothing management and pushes gameplay toward indoor activities, though it also brings the game's largest seasonal festival.

Snowfall and accumulation: In Dowon, snow falls throughout winter and accumulates on streets, buildings, and public spaces. The visual transformation is significant, turning the city into a winter landscape.
Cold weather illness: Zois who spend time outdoors without warm clothing are at risk of catching a cold. Illness from cold exposure requires treatment with a First Aid Kit. Prolonged exposure without proper clothing can be serious, so dressing warmly is essential during this season.
Indoor activity focus: Winter naturally pushes gameplay indoors. Activities like cooking, programming, reading, socializing at cafes, and other indoor hobbies become more practical during the cold months.
Snowmen and decorations: Winter decorations and snowmen appear in public areas throughout Dowon, adding to the seasonal atmosphere.
Holiday Festival: The Holiday Festival was introduced in the v0.5.0 update (December 23, 2025). It transforms locations in Dowon with festive decorations, holiday choirs, and interactive booths. Central Park serves as the main festival hub, with additional decorations at Liberty Square and Barat Beach in Cahaya. Over 50 holiday-themed Build Mode items were added with this event, including trees, lights, wreaths, and ornaments.
Lunar New Year celebration: Added in the v0.6.0 update (February 2026), the Lunar New Year event runs during early spring transition and features East Asian cultural themes. It added 19 new CaZ items, 55 build items including lanterns and banners, and a traditional Korean Hanok structure at Ullim Temple. All Lunar New Year items were added permanently to the catalog.
City Climate Differences
Each of the three playable cities handles seasons differently based on its geographic and cultural setting. This means seasonal gameplay varies significantly depending on where your Zoi lives.
City | Climate Type | Seasonal Impact |
|---|---|---|
Four distinct seasons | Full seasonal cycle with spring blossoms, summer heat, fall foliage, and winter snow. Temperature swings require active wardrobe management. Most seasonal events and visual changes are centered here. | |
Warm year-round | Inspired by Southern California, Bliss Bay maintains mild to warm temperatures across all four seasons. No snow or freezing conditions occur naturally. Beach and water activities are available in every season without cold-weather concerns. | |
Tropical year-round | An island city inspired by tropical Southeast Asian destinations. Warm and humid throughout the year with no natural snowfall. Diving, snorkeling, and boating remain available regardless of the current season. |
Players can use City Edit Mode to temporarily force weather changes in any city. For example, you can make it snow in Bliss Bay or create sunshine during a Dowon winter storm. However, these overrides reset to the city's default climate after one in-game hour.
Seasonal Clothing and Weather Effects
The clothing system ties directly into seasonal gameplay. Zois automatically adjust their outfits based on the current temperature, preferring thicker layers during cold weather and lighter clothing when it is warm. However, players can manually override outfit choices, which introduces a risk if the selected clothing does not match the weather conditions.
Wearing winter coats in summer causes discomfort, and wearing light summer outfits in a Dowon winter can lead to illness. Cold-related illness requires treatment with a First Aid Kit from the First Aid and Illness system. In Bliss Bay and Cahaya, cold-weather illness is extremely rare because temperatures stay warm throughout the year, making clothing management far less critical in those cities.
Weather conditions also affect NPC behavior across all cities. During rain and thunderstorms, Zois seek shelter indoors, reducing foot traffic in parks and public spaces. During clear weather, outdoor spaces fill with NPCs socializing, exercising, and going about their routines. Checking the weather forecast on the smartphone before planning outdoor activities helps you avoid being caught in unfavorable conditions.
Seasonal Festivals Timeline
Seasonal festivals were introduced starting with the v0.4.0 update and have become a recurring feature. Each festival brings unique activities, themed items, and environmental changes. For full details on individual events, see the Festivals and Seasonal Events article.
Festival | Update | Season | Key Features |
|---|---|---|---|
v0.4.0 (Oct 2025) | Fall | Pumpkin farming and carving, trick-or-treating, ghost fish, pumpkin recipes, ghost play after death | |
v0.5.0 (Dec 2025) | Winter | Festive decorations, holiday choirs, interactive booths at Central Park and Liberty Square, 50+ Build Mode items | |
Lunar New Year | v0.6.0 (Feb 2026) | Late Winter / Early Spring | 19 CaZ items, 55 build items, Hanok structure at Ullim Temple, East Asian cultural themes |
All items introduced through seasonal festivals have been added permanently to Build Mode and the CaZ store. You do not need to purchase them during the event window; they remain available in the catalog indefinitely after their initial release.
Tips
In Dowon, rotate your Zoi's wardrobe each season. Wearing winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter causes discomfort or illness.
Check the smartphone weather forecast before planning outdoor activities. Rain and storms can interrupt fishing, park visits, and other open-air plans.
Plant crops at the start of spring for the best growing season. Gardening benefits most from the mild spring weather and long summer days.
Festival and seasonal event Build Mode items stay in the catalog permanently. There is no rush to buy them during the active event period.
If you want to avoid cold-weather management entirely, consider living in Bliss Bay or Cahaya. Their warm climates eliminate the need for seasonal wardrobe swaps and remove the risk of cold-related illness.
Use City Edit Mode for creative screenshots. You can temporarily force snow in Bliss Bay or sunshine in a Dowon winter, though the effect reverts after one in-game hour.
Summer thunderstorms are a good opportunity to focus on indoor skills like cooking or programming. Plan your outdoor activities for clear weather windows.
