Updated with 5-tier progression detail, specific unlock examples per tier, Workpedia perks, and certification quest info
Starsand Island has five professions, each with its own mentor NPC, five certification tiers, and unique unlocks. Professions are the primary progression system — advancing tiers unlocks new blueprints, tools, skills, crops, animals, and recipes. You can pursue all five professions simultaneously; there is no restriction on picking one.
Each profession advances through five tiers:
Apprentice — Starting tier. Unlocked by talking to the mentor for the first time.
Junior — First certification quest. Expands basic options.
Intermediate — Second certification. Unlocks significant new mechanics (sprinklers, Breeding House, Realm Box).
Senior — Third certification. Opens high-value content (rare crops, mount rentals, advanced tools).
Expert — Final certification. Unlocks the rarest items and abilities in each profession.
To advance a tier, complete the certification quest from your mentor. These quests require demonstrating competence in that profession — for example, the Farming Junior quest might ask you to harvest a certain number of crops, while the Exploration Senior quest involves defeating a specific boss.
Each profession has a Workpedia page accessible from your phone. The Workpedia tracks skills you can unlock at each level, shows your current progress, and lists the requirements for the next tier. It functions as both a skill tree and a reference guide for what each profession offers.
Mentor: Zerine (General Store). The foundational profession — most items in the game require crafting. Zerine's General Store has the largest blueprint selection and is open 24 hours.
Key unlocks: Workbench tiers (I→II→III), processing stations (Furnace, Cutter, Gear Smith), tools (Chainsaw, Electric Drill, Impact Hammer)
Intermediate: Unlocks the Realm Box (shared inventory accessible from any Realm Box)
Expert: Access to the highest-tier crafting blueprints and industrial processing
Mentor: Graminova (Happiness Seed Shop). Covers planting, harvesting, and crop management.
Key unlocks: Crop tiers expand at each level. Apprentice crops include Potato, Carrot, Tomato; Expert crops include Stardew Fern and Star Mango
Intermediate: Sprinklers (automatic watering), fruit tree saplings
Senior: Rare flowers, mushrooms, medicinal plants
See Farming for the complete crop tier list.
Mentor: Delphin. Covers catching all 105 fish species.
Key unlocks: Better rods, access to special fishing zones (Celestewave, Luminwave, Coral Sea)
Intermediate: Fish traps for passive fishing income
Senior: Access to the rarest fish species and the Aquarium system
See Fishing for the full guide.
Mentor: Pastelle (Green Pasture Ranch). Covers raising livestock and beekeeping.
Key unlocks: New animal types, breeding facilities, animal products
Intermediate: Breeding House (3,500 coins) for targeted breeding
Senior: Mount rentals (15-30 coins/hour), Selective Breeding House
See Animals for the full guide.
Mentor: Zephyria (Exploration Club). The combat-focused profession centered on the Moonlit Forest dungeon.
Key unlocks: Better slingshots, bows, arrow types, mining tools
Intermediate: Impulse Pickaxe (breaks reinforced blockages), access to deeper forest zones
Senior: Bomb Arrows (required for the Ruin Guard final boss)
Expert: The Luna Deer permanent mount after defeating the Ruin Guard
Pursue all five professions simultaneously. There is no penalty or exclusion for doing so, and many unlock synergies exist across professions.
Check your Workpedia regularly to see what skills are available at your current tier.
Crafting is the most important profession to advance early — nearly every other profession depends on crafted tools and stations.
The Intermediate tier is a major power spike across all professions. Push to Intermediate in your primary profession as soon as possible.
