Overview
Reunion is the third main quest in Chapter 2: Golden Greed. Kliff spots a familiar Shai child named Rulupee near Lioncrest Watchtower. Following the child and their cat Jiji leads to ancient ruins where Kliff learns two new Axiom Force abilities: Nature's Grasp and Focus. Walkthrough
Follow the Cat
Exit Lioncrest Watchtower through the courtyard archway. A cutscene triggers showing Rulupee and their cat Jiji. The cat leaps off the wall and starts running. Hold X/A to auto-follow it. You will need to manually navigate a few spots where the path crosses a river and climbs over rocky ledges, but for the most part the follow mechanic handles the pathing.
Learn Nature's Grasp
At the ruins, a blue holographic silhouette of the child appears. Use your observation ability (L1/LB) and wait for the "Learning in Progress" bar to fill. This teaches Kliff Nature's Grasp, an Axiom Force ability that lets him manipulate environmental objects like walls, logs, and boulders.
Learn Focus
After learning Nature's Grasp, target the blue-highlighted rock wall ahead and activate the ability (Triangle + Circle / Y + B, then rapidly tap X/A). The wall rises, revealing a cave entrance. Inside, find another meditating child silhouette and use L1/LB again to learn Focus, the second ability from this quest.
Solve the Ancient Ruins Puzzle
Deeper inside the cave, three circular platforms are embedded in the wall. You need to strike each one with Force Palm (hold R3/Right Stick) in a specific order:
Middle platform (center)
Left platform
Right platform
When hit in the correct sequence, all three platforms lock into the wall simultaneously and energy begins flowing through them. The puzzle completes and the way forward opens.
Speak with the Child
Exit the cave and talk to Rulupee waiting outside. A short conversation triggers, followed by a meeting with Bilwise that wraps up the quest.
Collectible: Abyss Cresset
Before leaving the area, check for a small pillar near the cave entrance. It holds an Abyss Cresset, a collectible that awards a skill point and completes the challenge "Abyss Cresset of Meandering Hills." These items sit on small pedestals and are easy to walk past if you are not looking, so take a moment to grab it before heading to the next quest.
Tips
Nature's Grasp gets heavy use throughout the rest of Chapter 2 and beyond. The burning house rescue in The Flames of Greed, for example, requires it to clear logs blocking a doorway under a time limit.
The Force Palm puzzle sequence (Middle, Left, Right) is fixed. If you hit them out of order, the platforms reset and you can try again without penalty.
The Inventory Expansion Tool from the quest rewards adds 3 extra inventory slots, which is helpful given how quickly you accumulate crafting materials in the Hernand region.
Axiom Force Abilities Learned
This quest teaches two Axiom Force abilities that become essential for the rest of the game:
Ability | Effect | |
|---|---|---|
Triangle + Circle / Y + B, then tap X/A | Lifts, pulls, or pushes environmental objects like walls, logs, and boulders. Requires rapidly tapping the action button during the animation. | |
Hold L1/LB to meditate | Regenerates Spirit, the resource used for Axiom Force abilities. |
Both abilities are learned by observing blue holographic silhouettes with L1/LB. A "Learning in Progress" bar fills as you watch. Stay within range and maintain line of sight until the bar completes.
Following Jiji: Path Tips
Rulupee's cat Jiji sets the pace after the courtyard cutscene. Hold X/A to auto-follow for most of the route. The path crosses a shallow river and climbs over several rocky ledges where auto-follow disengages and you need to manually jump. If you lose sight of Jiji, look uphill and to the right. The cat loops back after a few seconds if you fall behind, so there is no fail state.
Force Palm Puzzle Solution
Inside the ancient cave, three circular platforms are embedded in the wall. Each one needs to be struck with Force Palm (hold R3/Right Stick). The correct activation order is fixed:
Middle platform (center)
Left platform
Right platform
When struck in the right sequence, all three platforms lock simultaneously and energy flows through the wall engravings. Hitting them out of order resets the puzzle without penalty. You can retry as many times as needed.
Completing this puzzle progresses the Abyss Cresset of Meandering Hills challenge, one of several Abyss Cresset collections scattered across the world.
Abyss Cresset Collectible
Before leaving the ruins area, look for a small pillar near the cave entrance. It holds an Abyss Cresset, a collectible that awards one skill point and counts toward the "Abyss Cresset of Meandering Hills" achievement. The pedestal is easy to walk past because it blends into the surrounding rock. Check the cliffside to the left of the cave exit before talking to Rulupee.
Abyss Cressets are one-time collectibles. If you miss this one, you can return to the ruins later. The skill point is useful for unlocking new combat abilities early.
Ability Usage in Later Quests
Nature's Grasp gets heavy use starting immediately in the next few quests. During The Flames of Greed, you need to clear burning logs blocking a doorway under a time limit. Focus becomes the main way to regenerate Spirit between combat encounters, especially during the back-to-back bandit fights at Springtide Mill. Both abilities are also required for environmental puzzles in Chapters 3 and 4.
