The Sliding Down the Slope challenge is one of the ten Training Challenges in Crimson Desert. It asks you to slide continuously for 50 meters down a hillside. While the concept is straightforward, finding the right slope and executing the slide without interruption can take a couple of attempts if you pick the wrong terrain. This guide covers everything you need: where to pick up the Sealed Abyss Artifact that unlocks the challenge, how sliding works on each platform, the best locations to complete it, and what rewards you earn.
Challenge Overview
Challenge Name: Sliding Down the Slope
Category: Training (Combat)
Objective: Slide down a slope for 50 meters without stopping.
Rewards: 1x Abyss Artifact and the Haste I Abyss Core. Haste I increases your Movement Speed, making traversal across Pywel noticeably faster.
Completing all ten Training Challenges also earns you the Relentless Warrior trophy/achievement, so this challenge is worth doing early.
Unlocking the Challenge
Before you can attempt the 50m slope slide, you need to collect the corresponding Sealed Abyss Artifact. This particular artifact sits on a small roadside shrine at the junction just west of Bloomwood Ranch, south of the city of Hernand. The shrine is easy to spot because it glows with a faint purple light when you get close.
How to Get There
Fast travel to Bloomwood Ranch or ride there from Hernand heading south.
From the ranch, follow the main road west until you reach the first intersection.
Look for the glowing shrine on the side of the road at the junction. Walk up to it and interact to collect the Sealed Abyss Artifact.
A prompt will appear asking you to unlock the Sliding Down the Slope challenge. Confirm it, and the challenge becomes active.
How Sliding Works
Crimson Desert has a dedicated sliding mechanic that lets your character drop low and skid across the ground. Sliding on flat terrain only carries you a short distance, but sliding on a downward slope increases both your speed and the distance traveled. Here is how to start a slide on each platform:
Controls by Platform
PlayStation 5: Double-tap X to sprint, then press L3 (click the left stick) to crouch into a slide.
Xbox: Double-tap A to sprint, then press LS (click the left stick) to crouch into a slide.
PC (Keyboard): Double-tap Shift to sprint, then press C to crouch into a slide.
For a full breakdown of every input, see the Controls page.
The key thing to understand is that you must be sprinting before you press crouch. If you press crouch while standing still or walking at normal speed, your character will simply crouch in place instead of sliding.
Step-by-Step Completion Guide
Find a long, steep slope. You need an uninterrupted downhill surface of at least 50 meters. Gentle slopes work, but steeper hills carry you farther per second, making it easier to hit the distance requirement in a single slide.
Position yourself at the top. Face directly downhill. If you angle yourself sideways across the slope, friction will slow you down and you may not reach 50 meters.
Sprint downhill. Start running straight down the slope by double-tapping the sprint button (X on PS5, A on Xbox, Shift on PC).
Initiate the slide. While sprinting, press the crouch button (L3 on PS5, LS on Xbox, C on PC). Your character will drop into a sliding posture and begin skidding downhill.
Do not touch any other inputs. Once the slide starts, keep the left stick pointed straight downhill (or hold W on PC) and do not press jump, dodge, attack, or any other button. Any additional input can interrupt the slide and reset your distance counter.
Wait for the completion popup. If you slide 50 meters without interruption, a notification will appear confirming you have completed the challenge.
Best Locations to Complete the Slide
Any slope in the open world works as long as it is steep enough and uninterrupted for at least 50 meters. That said, certain spots are especially reliable:
Hills south of Bloomwood Ranch: Since you pick up the artifact nearby, the rolling hills south of Bloomwood Ranch are the most convenient spot. Several grassy slopes in this area run well over 50 meters without obstacles.
Meandering Hills: The Meandering Hills region has multiple long hillsides that are smooth and free of rocks or trees that could interrupt your slide.
Any mountain road with a steep grade: Mountain roads throughout Pywel often have long, smooth downhill stretches. The paved surface means fewer bumps to break your slide.
Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble completing the challenge, check the following:
Slide keeps stopping early: You are probably hitting a small rock, tree root, or uneven patch of terrain. Move to a smoother slope or try a different hill.
Character crouches instead of sliding: Make sure you are sprinting before you press the crouch button. Walking or standing still will only produce a crouch, not a slide.
Not enough distance: The slope is too gentle or too short. Look for a steeper or longer hillside. Steeper angles generate more momentum, which carries you further.
Distance counter resets: Pressing jump, dodge, or attack during the slide can cancel it. Keep your hands off every button except the directional input until the challenge completes.
Rewards
Completing the Sliding Down the Slope challenge grants you two items:
1x Abyss Artifact: Used in the skill tree to learn new skills or enhance your core stats. See Abyss Artifacts Farming Guide for more ways to earn them.
Haste I Abyss Core: A slottable Abyss Core that boosts your base movement speed. Equip it through the Abyss menu to make overworld travel faster. You can learn about equipping cores in the How to Unlock Abyss Core Slots guide.
Related Training Challenges
The Sliding Down the Slope challenge is one of ten Training Challenges in the Combat category. Other training challenges test different movement and combat mechanics, such as:
Steel Grip Against the Chest: Tests your ability to guard or parry incoming attacks.
Rainbow Across the Sky: Involves performing aerial moves or launching enemies into the air.
Keeping Balance on the Wind: Challenges your ability to maintain balance during windy conditions or while traversing narrow surfaces.
Completing all ten training challenges unlocks the Relentless Warrior trophy/achievement. Check the All Challenges page for a full list of every challenge type in the game.
Tips
Do this challenge early. The Haste I Abyss Core you earn from it provides a movement speed boost that helps throughout the rest of the game.
If you are close to 50 meters but keep falling short, try a completely different hill rather than retrying the same slope. Sometimes terrain that looks smooth has invisible bumps that cut the slide short.
Sliding is not just for challenges. Once you have the technique down, use it to quickly descend mountains during exploration or to close distance in combat before enemies can react.
You can complete this challenge at any point after collecting the artifact. There is no time limit or quest dependency, so come back to it whenever you find a good slope.
