When embedded, Companionship III adds +3 trust on top of every pet interaction you make. Both petting and feeding count, so the bonus stacks five times per day on petting (+15 extra trust per day from petting alone) and three times per day on feeding (+9 extra trust per day). Combined with a day's worth of normal interactions, it shaves a full day off the typical two-day cat taming loop and stacks with the Rabbit Leather Mask's flat +2 trust-gain buff and any pet-specific trust affix on other Abyss Gear in your sockets.
Companionship III can be obtained for free from a Sealed Abyss Artifact in the open world south of the Crimson Desert region. Fast travel to the nearest point west of the target, aerial force palm into the sky, and fly due east. The marker sits near a curved road close to a set of train tracks, and the artifact displays on the mini map as a small purple pot icon. Players who have already registered every entry in the Legendary Horses list unlock the Companionship III core instantly on interaction rather than having to clear the artifact's puzzle.
After you have the core, take it to any witch vendor for embedding. Socket it into a piece of pet-facing gear that you keep equipped during taming sessions so the +3 per-interaction bonus is always active when you are farming trust.
The +3 trust bonus is applied on top of whatever the base interaction would have given, not as a replacement. That matters because the pet system caps each animal at roughly five interactions per in-game day before the trust bar locks until the next reset. With a Pet Taming Guide preferred food loaded, a single feed on a cat or dog gives about 35 trust; paired with Companionship III the effective payout is 38 per feed. Less-preferred food gives about 25, which the core pushes to 28. Over a full day of five preferred-food interactions, that is an extra 15 trust on top of the base 175, which is often the difference between closing a rare cat or dog tame in one session and having to return the next in-game day to finish the bar.
The same math applies to birds fed from the Sigil of Bond. Small birds fed Barley earn 25 trust per feed (28 with the core), predator birds fed Lean Meat earn 35 (38 with the core), and each successful feed counts against the same daily interaction budget. Socketing Companionship III into a piece of gear that stays equipped during taming runs means the bonus is always live while you are farming trust, with no need to swap cores between tames.
The bonus also compounds with the Rabbit Leather Mask and any other Companion Trust affix you can line up. Running the mask plus Companionship III on a 35-trust feed produces a 40-trust interaction, which, stacked five times per day, comfortably clears the 100-trust threshold in a single visit to the spawn.
The cleanest unlock route for Companionship III is the Sealed Abyss Artifact that sits at a roadside shrine in the Crimson Desert region. Pick it up from the shrine and two outcomes are possible. If you have already tamed and registered every entry on the Legendary Horses list, the sealed artifact immediately grants the Companionship III core at the moment of interaction, and you walk away with both the core and an artifact in a single loot pickup. If the legendary-horse set is not yet complete, the artifact still enters your inventory, but the core is not awarded directly on pickup and needs the artifact's normal clear path to produce the reward.
Finding the shrine itself is straightforward on the mini-map: it is a small pickup point along a roadside near the Crimson Desert region's curved main road. The full video walkthrough of the shrine location is documented in the comprehensive Pet Taming Guide. Because the shrine pickup does not repeat, this path only works as a first-time unlock for the Companionship III core; subsequent copies need to come from the existing drop sources already listed on this page.
Companionship III is the top tier of the Companionship family of Abyss Cores. The two earlier tiers are worth keeping in mind if you are still building toward the III core or if you want to socket additional pet-facing gear during long taming runs:
Companionship I - the entry tier of the line, with a smaller per-interaction trust bonus. Easier to acquire and useful on a secondary piece of gear while you are still working toward the full set.
Companionship II - the middle tier. Drops more often than III and makes a reasonable placeholder on the main taming piece until the III core is unlocked.
Gear Blueprint: Companionship - a crafting blueprint that produces gear with a native Companionship socket. Using a purpose-built blueprint piece as the permanent home of the III core frees your other sockets for horse XP, crafting, or combat affixes.
Slot Companionship III on a piece of gear you rarely swap, so the +3 bonus is active every time you walk up to a new spawn. Running it on a permanently equipped accessory is the lowest-maintenance setup.
Lead with preferred food. A 35-trust feed with Companionship III is 38; burning the same interaction on petting or on a less-preferred food is a flat waste of one of the five daily slots. Save petting for the last one or two interactions after the bar is nearly closed.
Pair the core with the Rabbit Leather Mask during active tames so both flat bonuses are live at once. The combined payout on a preferred-food feed is 40 trust, which means 100 trust is reachable in roughly three interactions instead of the usual five.
For cats, bring a legendary fish such as the Golden Carp as a contingency. A legendary fish instantly tames a cat, bypassing the daily cap entirely. Keep Companionship III socketed anyway: the next cat on the route is still rolling against the capped trust system.
For birds, keep the Sigil of Bond stocked and leave the core socketed during the wait. Feeder landings can be minutes apart, and the bonus applies to every feed that lands while you are nearby, not just the first.
Track one pet at a time. Swapping between multiple active tames during a single day makes it easy to spend interaction slots on the wrong animal; focusing on one Companions target per session is the most efficient way to convert Companionship III's +3 into closed tames.
After each tame, check the Pets menu to rename and outfit the new companion. The Companionship III bonus only applies during the taming process itself; once the pet is in the roster, the core's job on that animal is done and the slot is free to be re-tasked for the next target.
