This page collects the four weekly update notes NCsoft published for AION 2 in January 2026. The month brought server-wide pet sharing and a CAPTCHA against macros, a PvP damage pass, and on January 21 the start of Season 2 with the Dying Dramata's Nest Expedition, the middle layer of Ereshuranta, new Raids and Ascension Trials, server-wide Closet sharing and Succession. These are changes to the Korean and Taiwanese service only; the global service launched separately on October 5, 2026 and is not described by these notes. See Update History for the wider timeline and Patch Notes: December 2025 for the month before.
January 7, 2026
Regular maintenance. Revised on January 7 to add the pet soul change and a CAPTCHA input issue in AION2 control mode.
Pets Shared Across the Server
Pets are now shared by every character on a server, and the souls needed to obtain and level a pet were cut by 50%. See Pets and Mounts.
Owned pets: the pet list is shared on the server, except special species pets, which stay per character. Pet counts across a server's characters were added together and levels and understanding experience recalculated on the new 50% soul requirement. Understanding beyond a pet's maximum level converts into that species' soul crystal points, 1 point per excess understanding point. Pets gained or leveled through this merge do not give Genus Insight experience.
Pet collection: progress is shared and recounted from the combined pet counts, which can raise the count; special species pets are excluded. A collection reward tier that any character on the server has already claimed cannot be claimed again; tiers no character has claimed can still be claimed.
Genus Insight now starts open at level 1 regardless of pets owned. Species soul crystal points are shared and pooled across the server.
Genus Insight itself is shared: for each species, the highest level among the server's characters applies; on a tie in level and experience, the oldest character's applies.
Genus Insight experience that was doubled by mistake, and experience from special species pets, between November 19 and the November 21, 2025 update, was taken back. This can lower Insight levels and lock analysis slots; stats already rolled stay inactive and return when the slot unlocks again.
Insight on characters that were not selected is deleted and refunded as species soul crystal points:
Deleted Genus Insight level | Species soul crystal points |
|---|---|
1 | 0 |
2 | 50 |
3 | 150 |
4 | 300 |
5 | 500 |
6 | 1,000 |
7 | 2,000 |
8 | 4,000 |
9 | 7,000 |
10 | 10,000 |
Pet items and pet boxes follow the halved soul amounts: for example, Pet: Posa (포사; provisional) now gives 5 Posa soul points instead of 10. Characters holding unopened pet boxes from before the update will receive the difference in soul points; the method and timing were to be announced.
Class Changes
Shared changes: the grab state from Mocking Blade, Wave Blow and Shadow Fall is now an impact-type effect, so Defiance can be used when grabbed. On Overhead Slam, Aerial Snare, Judgment, Annihilate, Shadow Fall, Dark Crush, Wave Blow and Frost Burst, the specialization that let them work on targets with status effect immunity became part of the base skill. Focused Block, Shield of Protection and Focused Defense no longer show a successful block effect when hit from behind.

Added skill mastery and Stigma presets, switched with a hotkey or the preset button on the skill screen. Each preset can have its own specializations, but skill levels cannot differ between presets. See Stigma System.
CAPTCHA
Behavior that looks like a macro now triggers a CAPTCHA. Failing to type the characters shown turns the character into a set shape for a time, with lower move speed and a debuff that blocks skills and some controls. See Macros and Third-Party Programs.
Known issue: in AION2 control mode, the input box cannot be selected when the mouse pointer was activated with Alt. Switching to Classic control mode, or activating the pointer with Esc, works.
Sanctuary
The red mana orbs summoned by Eternal Ludra can now also be answered with the Assassin's Evasion Stance. Answering them with a class defensive stance (Gladiator Focused Block, Chanter Focused Defense, Assassin Evasion Stance, Templar Shield of Protection) grants a damage amplification effect. See Abyssal Forge: Ludra.
In the air phase, Eternal Ludra no longer uses lightning on nearby targets, telegraphs the area of its slam, and has a new effect for its frontal breath.
Adjusted skill priorities so the first Ludra's Trial starts when intended.
Fixed the wave skill's effect not matching its hit area and not hurting distant players, and fixed the Eternal Flow (영겁의 흐름; provisional) debuff for leaving the arena in the air phase being removable with healing potions.

Mysterious Track: moved the updraft jump pads so jumps are reliable, and speed pads no longer appear near them.

Raised the stats of the Dimensional Core in the Artifact Siege.

Fixes
Fixed the camera zoom in and zoom out hotkeys being shown the wrong way round under Settings, Key Settings, General.

Fixed Kina not being shared when a party killed level-scaled monsters and a member had no personal contribution.

Supply requests now accept bound Impact Resistance Scrolls; maces now count as ranged weapons and staves as melee weapons for supply requests.

Eternal Ludra: fixed it sometimes using Thunder Zone (우레의 구역; provisional) without first applying Aura of Chaos or Aura of Despair (혼돈의 기운, 절망의 기운; provisional), which made it impossible to answer; fixed revived players sometimes getting both auras; fixed Thunder Zone not damaging the edge of the arena.

Seed of Insight (간파의 씨앗): its source now correctly reads wood extraction instead of herb extraction, and its cooldown is now 1 minute.
The probability popup for Integrated Enhancement, Soul Inscription, Tuning sometimes showed rates that did not match the real ones; because stats already chosen in other options cannot repeat, the shown rates did not add up to 100%. They now add up to 100% across the stats actually available.
Partly fixed pet achievement counts under Achievements, Growth, Custom not updating (15 achievement series, from My Trusty Friends I to VII through One Who Embraces All Species; provisional names).

Some accounts received these boxes twice. NCsoft asked players not to use the extra boxes and pointed to a separate known issues notice.
January 21, 2026
Season 2 began with this regular maintenance. NCsoft revised the note several times between January 21 and 23: it expanded the Artifact Siege and Succession sections, corrected the new Daeva Pass prices and dates and a Transfer Stone Fragment table, added the new Arcana slot, kept Special-grade appearances in achievement counts, corrected an Assassin Heart Gore line, and added details on Sanctuary retries and extracting with a full cube.
Season 2 and Rankings
Season 2 started. The Season 2 Expedition, Transcendence and Sanctuary content was added to the UI menu with its planned opening dates.
Season rankings now use a character's best record instead of an accumulated total, and end-of-season rewards are paid by class ranking.
New Expedition: Dying Dramata's Nest
Added Dying Dramata's Nest with Exploration and Conquest (Normal).
Its Conquest Normal Odyle Energy Cube can give Unstable Stigma Shards (Bound) and Sealed Philosopher's Stones (Bound). A Sealed Philosopher's Stone converts into a Philosopher's Stone (Bound), which a later update was to let players spend to open an extra Soul Inscription slot on gear. Sealed Philosopher's Stones also come from the Season Shop and Expedition Conquest cubes.
It also drops Dramata's Nest Wing Feathers (Bound), which convert into the Dramata's Nest Wings, and Painting Remnant: Dying Dramata's Nest (Bound), which converts into Painting: Dying Dramata's Nest.

Middle Ereshuranta and the Abyss
Added the middle layer of Ereshuranta in the Abyss. It can be used for up to 7 hours a week, and Middle Abyss Rift Stones add 1 hour each. Energy of Ereshuranta (Bound) drops at random from middle-layer monsters.

Abyss Gear
Buying Abyss gear now depends on Abyss rank: Tribunus gear needs 1-star Officer or higher, and Legion Commander gear needs General or higher. See Abyss Ranks.

Added new Unique and Hero Draconic crafted gear and designs.
Closet
Owned appearances are now shared by every character on the server, except Special-grade appearances, which stay per character. Collection effects were recalculated from the combined count; weapon collection effects still apply per class; achievement counts follow the shared count.
The Light of Life, Blood Dusk Dress and Grace of Salvation appearances (provisional names) from the Monoliths became Special grade.
Customized appearances are shared as well: other characters on the server can wear them, and changing a shared customization changes it for every character wearing it. Owning several copies of one appearance allows that many different customizations. Selecting an equipped slot lists the copies you own (up to 100) to its left; a first copy shows no count in the main list but counts as 1 there, and can be customized and worn but not used for synthesis. Customized items carry an index that can be changed in customization mode, and customized or worn appearances are never consumed by synthesis until the customization is removed (free) or they are unequipped.
Added hood-type appearances whose hood can be put up or down. Hood up hides the helmet and switches to a dedicated hairstyle; hood down shows the helmet slot's appearance. An icon marks hood-type items.
Special-grade outfits can now be bought more than once, with some exceptions.
Added new appearances, obtained by extracting gear from Expeditions, by appearance synthesis or from the Black Cloud Trading Company.
Succession
Succession lets you move an item's enhancement level (including breakthrough) and Soul Inscription onto another item using a Transfer Stone. On success the source item is consumed; on failure it is kept and only the materials are used. Gear saved in a preset cannot be a source. See Succession Crafting.
What carries over: enhancement level, breakthrough level and Soul Inscription stats. If the source has more inscription slots than the target, a random subset of its stats is applied; if the target has more, every source stat carries over in random positions and the extra slots keep their stats. Inscription values above the target's maximum for that stat are capped at the maximum, and values below its minimum rise to the minimum. The bonus chance from failed enhancements also carries over.
Succession only works between gear of the same grade and slot, and weapons only between weapons of the same class (a longsword cannot pass to a greatsword).
Each season has a fixed number of successful successions; the success chance changes with the number used, and the count resets the next season. A successful succession resets the target's tuning attempt count.
Quest gear was excluded at first; NCsoft said quest items would become eligible on January 28.

Weekly-limit products now reset on Wednesdays at 05:00 instead of Mondays.
Retries, Boss Kill Counts and Other Additions
Added a retry option to Expedition, Transcendence and Sanctuary. Only the party leader can start it after a clear; members who accept within 60 seconds leave the dungeon automatically and join a new room with the same name (public, approval join, all roles), while members who decline or do not answer stay behind. If the leader leaves or hands over leadership, the retry is canceled. In the Sanctuary, members enter the new room in the order they accept, so accepting in the original party order keeps the same formation; NCsoft said it would make Sanctuary retries keep the original formation later.
Expedition and Transcendence dungeons now have a weekly final boss kill count. Each final boss kill uses one; with none left the dungeon cannot be entered. Counts refill every Wednesday at 05:00: 35 for the Conquest dungeons (Krao Cave, Draupnir, Urugugu Canyon, Vakron Sky Island, Fire Temple, Ferocious Horn Den) and 28 for the Transcendence dungeons (Deus Research Base, Shattered Arkanis).
Daily Dungeons gained a retry option, usable while tickets remain.

Uncollected Empyrean Traces can be shown on the world map and minimap, toggled in the world map filter.

UI: Abyss supply request deadlines show their start date; the basic Daeva Pass also shows its subscription period; instant rewards from buying a basic or premium Daeva Pass disappear from the subscription UI once claimed and are listed in the Daeva Pass tab.
Added a new Arcana slot, Scales. Arcana for it would come from a later Transcendence dungeon.

PvP Balance
Damage in PvP is reduced further.
The maximum adjustment from an item level gap was eased, so more damage gets through.
Skill Macro
Added a skill macro that makes it easier to cancel basic light and heavy attacks. It is set up from the button at the top right of the skill screen: add steps, give each step a delay, and choose either a basic light or basic heavy attack per step. See Macros and Third-Party Programs.
Its hotkey is set under Settings, Key Settings, General, Skill Macro, and the macro runs while the key is held; on mobile it runs while the macro button on the main HUD is held. Manual input always takes priority.
Mouse buttons set as the hotkey do not work in AION1 control mode, and because the macro keeps moving on through its steps, the step order is not guaranteed.
Character Storage
Storage can now be switched between character storage and server storage, each with its own quick-store settings; character storage is selected the first time you open it. Items in character storage can also be used directly for crafting, Material Conversion, supply requests and Integrated Enhancement.
The Storage Expansion Ticket was renamed Server Storage Expansion Ticket, and the Tsenka Merchants' Consumables tab added a Character Storage Expansion Ticket (Bound) for 200 Quna, 20 per character, from January 28 at 05:00 until further notice.
The membership remote storage benefit became remote server and character storage:
Membership | Effect | Without membership | With membership |
|---|---|---|---|
Sand Breeze Membership | Remote server and character storage | Server and character storage through storage NPCs | Remote server and character storage at any time from the bottom of the cube |
Shugo Express Membership | Remote server and character storage | Server and character storage through storage NPCs | Remote server and character storage at any time from the bottom of the cube |
Weekly Play Count and Kina
Mode | 100% Kina | 60% Kina | 20% Kina | 0% Kina |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Exploration | 7 or fewer | 14 or fewer | 20 or fewer | 21 or more |
Stigma point resets now cost 10,000 Kina per point. See Stigma System.
Abyss
Slightly lowered the stats of some monsters in middle Ereshuranta, and added a buff there that raises Kina and Abyss Points gained by 40% each.
Raised the stats of the boss monsters in lower and middle Ereshuranta.
Shugo Festival
Shugo Merchant Protection: the Bandit Cannon is slightly stronger.
Avoid the Wraiths (망령 회피; provisional): the wraiths' sight height now matches their size more precisely.
Goldrin's Treasure: fixed Odyle droplets being hard to pick up.
Jump Jump: pink balloons give fewer points, and laser balloons now give points.
Systems
The Sanctuary no longer checks reward counts on entry: with attempts left but no reward counts, you can still play, but you cannot get the Odyle Energy Cube that uses a reward count.
Gathering now requires level 45. Proficiency, skill points and skills gained before level 45 become usable at 45, and the recommended level of the extraction expertise promotion quest is now 45.
Viewing another character's information now shows the appearances they are wearing. A toggle at the bottom switches between gear and appearance view, and Try On applies their gear and appearance to your own character as a preview.
UI Improvements
The minimap has a clock, switchable between game time and the local time of the country you connect from.
The hood state on the main menu portrait now persists after reconnecting.
Fixed item detail windows being cut off, and moved their chat share and lock buttons onto the item image.
More UI buttons work with the F key.
Material conversion ingredients are no longer included under crafting materials in quick-store and quick-sell settings.
The Succession confirmation popup now shows what will be consumed, and trying to register an ineligible source shows a message. Items in character storage can now be Succession sources.
Middle Ereshuranta was added to the world map's map switch buttons.
The ranking page and the season lobby now show class rankings.
Content Improvements
After an abnormal disconnect in Expedition, Transcendence or Sanctuary, the grace period to reconnect rose from 1 to 10 minutes. Reconnecting within 10 minutes lets you rejoin the dungeon room with the same party or force without using an attempt.
Dying Dramata's Nest: fixed Manager Nasium sometimes using its tracking blades more often than intended, or spawning them late.
Shattered Arkanis: fixed Talisra of the Void failing to absorb souls if a character revived after Gathering Souls (모여드는 영혼; provisional).
Nightmare Dream Layer II: lowered boss accuracy and block, and lowered the maximum HP of Mutated Ulgorn, Soulreaper Rathman, Sharp Aulak and Sealed Sura (provisional names). Fixed the Nightmare ranking not sorting by best record.

Fixed the Pro Wing Collector achievement counting wings from ranking rewards twice.
Fixed a red dot staying on the Season menu.
Dying Dramata's Nest now counts toward the weekly final boss kill count.
Mobile: tapping a spot on the world map now moves the character there automatically.
Compensation
Season 1 ranking rewards paid on January 21 were wrong. All of them except Oath Coins were taken back and the correct Season 1 rewards were paid again on January 28, claimable from the Go To button for each content in the Season UI; Oath Coins were topped up by the difference from the amount already paid.
While the rewards were reprocessed, some characters' wing appearance and equipped wings may have reset to the default wings, and NCsoft asked players to re-equip them.
