Where It Is Used
Torn Sailcloth Bag. The first backpack tier uses 2 Coarse Fabric and 1 Rope
Shovel. Crafting a Shovel requires 3 Copper Ingots and 10 Wood at the Workbench. Rope is a precursor in other early tools such as fishing and ship-rigging recipes
Ruin descent. Some Ancient Ruins have vertical entry shafts that require a Rope to descend safely; this is the canonical way to reach a room of Tumbaga Ingots on certain ruin layouts
Ship-rigging repairs. Some Shipwright's Workshop recipes layer Rope on top of Wood and Nails as structural material
Rope vs Coarse Fabric
Both Rope and Coarse Fabric are crafted from 3 Plant Fiber at the same station, which makes Plant Fiber the single bottleneck for early-game crafting. Most players alternate production: a full Plant Fiber loop is typically processed into 5 to 8 units of each, depending on which upcoming recipe is the priority. If you are rushing the Torn Sailcloth Bag, craft more Coarse Fabric; if you are rushing the Shovel for buried-treasure hunting, craft more Rope.
