Backpacks are wearable inventory expansions in Windrose. Each pack adds carrying capacity and can be upgraded to higher tiers as the player progresses.
Backpacks form a crafting chain rather than separate stand-alone items: each higher tier is built using the previous one as an ingredient, so the pack grows with the player. The earliest carry option is the Torn Sailcloth Bag, made from Coarse Fabric and Rope. It feeds into the Sailor Backpack, which adds Rough Hide and a Copper Ingot. The Sailor pack is then consumed to craft the Bosun Backpack, using Tanned Leather and a Foothills Iron Ingot. The top crafted tier is the Quartermaster Backpack, which upgrades the Bosun pack with Crocodile Hide Piece. The Traveler Backpack is listed here without a recorded build cost, so check its own page for how it is acquired.

Because each tier eats the previous pack, craft straight up the chain rather than hoarding lower bags; one carried forward is all you need.
Gather the upgrade materials before retiring a pack, since you keep your worn backpack equipped until the replacement is built.
The Foothills Iron Ingot for the Bosun tier ties this upgrade to Foothills-region smelting, so plan the jump for after you reach that area.
